Desert In Bloom Day Spa & Laser Hair Removal Center

I purchased a groupon for their services and ended up buying more packages after all. They have always accommodated my appointment needs, have been extremely friendly and most of all, the lasers work!

Words can not express my disappointment in this business and how they handle customer service, because I did so badly want it to work. Unfortunately, my second chance has just not gone so well, and now it is bleeding beyond my time with the business. To be honest, I did have a good experience at first, with my first appointment but then it was impossible for me to connect with their office. See my review below. However, this issue has ballooned out of proportion at this point because the business refuses to be accountable for their contribution to the problem.
For the record, I sent emails on the following dates:
November 18, December 9, and January 9^th
That is in addition to multiple phone calls during and after business hours in which I provided my cell phone number MANY times, as well as my email address. I got voicemail every time– never a person. I left messages saying times I was available, and requested that if the return call got my voicemail to just leave the time and I would come for it. To reiterate, I also left my email as an option. I did not want to have a work conversation about it so I was purposely not leaving my work number, because I consider it personal and I do not have a private office. However, their return calls never addressed my messages and each time I called back… I got voicemail again.
It took the Unilocal review below for a response… to my work… but at least it was a response.
I was kinda conflicted about being called at work because they had my cell phone number from phone messages as well as on file from past appointments– this call to work came after my first review below when I believe that my emails were finally «discovered» (they include my work number in the signature). Kinda awkward to have conversation about laser hair removal in front of co-​workers, but I was told that I would not have to worry about expiration of my coupon deal so all was forgiven. Went back for the first time in months and the technician was a little late, but the inside is nice and she was very swift. No worries. I was feeling all resolved and settled. I was even considering a follow-​up review, until the personal attacks from the business began because of my Unilocal review. Honestly, I have NEVER had such poor customer service or lack of professionalism at a place of business.
Sadly sometimes people have two different perceptions and it seems that the owner is not customer-​oriented and preferred to be on the defense rather than figure out where we had a disconnect. I found his tone and response to be offensive, but of course that is my opinion– emails can be misinterpreted. The funny thing is that he has only made it all worse, because I did like the place once I could get in. Though in some ways, I want to thank him because it did help eliminate any question about my assessment.
I stand by my review and the account of my experience and am sad that the business is not accountable and has chosen to deflect onto a customer. I don’t often take the time to do reviews and I never judge off one experience because I am aware that they can affect a business. My review is fair and it is not exaggerated.
I have suggested an online appointment system, because «with all due respect» appointment issues show up in more than my review… and as a courtesy, I think it would better to not call people at work when they have not provided that as a contact option (and you DID HAVE both my cell and email).
But I am done with you Desert In Bloom so please just let it go.

I bought a laser package for 6 treatments from groupon for Desert in Bloom. I went two times, and an Asian female had done the treatments. The third time I went an Indian technician told me that the Asian female was no longer working there because she had not been «doing it right.» When I had called to make my 3^rd appointment (LAST JUNE) and I was told by the male receptionist that I had already completed my 6. When i asked how this was possible, he told me that I had missed two appointments and each missed appoint was a forfeiture of a session. I was never told this before hand, and this establishment (unlike most others) does not call you to remind you that you have an appointment. And nowhere on their groupon did it say this was their policy! And I’ve never heard of a similar policy at the many other med spas I go to. When I explained to him that I was a first-​year law student, and most have lost track of my appointments, after being pretty rude, he said that it was okay and that I could get my next three done. So AFTER this conversation, I went in for my third AND fourth treatment, with NO PROBLEMS and after the third I even spoke to him and apologized about the situation. To which he replied, it was okay and he understood.
Today when I went in for my fifth session, I was asked if I was purchasing a new package, to which I replied that I had two sessions left. The SAME male receptionist told me that I had forfeited two sessions last February and April. When I told him that I had spoken to him last june about this and he had said it was okay — he denied remembering the conversation saying «How can I remember a conversation from a year ago?.» Then I, in detail, explained the entire situation to him and recounted our conversation and how he had let me come in TWICE after that conversation! Why would you have allowed me to come TWICE afterwards, if we had not reached an agreement about these «forfeited appointments»?? He then, instead of going by his word, told me that he would charge me $ 100 for the session. I refused and on principle, walked out of there. SO basically, I paid for 6 sessions and only received 4! This man was so rude, he probably just wanted to get rid of us Groupon ppl.
I cannot believe the way I was treated! I would not come back here, even if I was offered FREE SERVICES. Every time I went in there were NEW ppl, because they cant even keep their technicians! I highly recommend Sousan Med Spa, the laser is just as good (it actually hurts less) and the owner treats you like you are family!

I bought a laser hair removal groupon and went here a total of 4 times and 2 times I had a bad customer service experiences but the other 2 times they were fine.
The first time I was there I was running about 5 mins late due to weather. I got there and they said no problem, they were running about 15 min late. «Okay» I said. But that 15 mins was really over an hour. And they even let someone else go in before me even though their appointment was after mine! They didn’t even ask if that was okay with me. I did complain before I left and they gave me a free session which was nice. And I made my 2^nd appointment.
The 2^nd time I had an appointment I called a few days before to confirm since I had not received a confirmation from them. Turns out they didn’t even have me on the books and had to fit me in at a later time. And they acted like it was my fault because I didn’t get an email.
The 3^rd and 4^th time were fine, I had no scheduling issues. I will say I like their lasers MUCH better then Sona Med Spa, they don’t hurt at all! But Sona does have a policy that if the client is more then 5 mins late the appointment is cancelled and that is something I think they should implement here too. If they had just rescheduled that one person that day they wouldn’t have had a full waiting room and unhappy customers or had to hand out free services.

Great service and saw amazing results. I completed 6 treatments on my lower legs, and I haven’t seen any additional growth.

I’ve used a few different places for laser hair removal after buying Groupons, Living Social deals, etc. No matter what, I always find myself coming back here.
The office building is a little odd, but once I walk in to Desert in Bloom, I feel completely relaxed. The staff is very welcoming and friendly, and the lemongrass oil/​air freshener smells amazing, so I always feel comfortable
Their laser is very effective on me (pale skin, dark hair). I’ve had 6 underarm treatments and there is barely any hair growth left. I’ve had 3 lower leg treatments and have seen significant hair reduction as well. I just keep adding more as I go along, it is very addicting.
I’m terrible with names, but the new laser technician is awesome. I think she’s the only Indian girl that works there, and she is very friendly and thorough. Last treatment I had underarms, full legs, and chin. I felt comfortable the entire time because we had a good conversation, not just small talk.
Fortunately, it is very easy to get appointments. I always schedule my next appointment before I leave, so I haven’t had to call that often. If I am unable to reach them, I leave a voicemail and hear back from them the same day. I played phone tag with the man once (I believe he’s the owner), but he called me back multiple times in one day while trying to work out a different time for an appointment. Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer my phone at work or it wouldn’t have been more than 1 or 2 calls.
I have seen a little dog in the salon a couple of times out of 8+ visits, but not recently. It looks like a shih tzu or something like that. He seems very sweet, lethargic, and has never bothered me. He stays in the office and waiting area and is smaller than my mini pinscher, so I don’t mind him.
Overall, this has been the most convenient and effective place I’ve had laser hair removal.

I was pleasantly surprised by my last experience here. I was thinking about postponing my treatment because I didn’t have enough hair growing back except for 2 distinct strips (one on each leg) that the technician had missed during the previous session. I was told to go for a touch-​up, free of charge, and then we’d have a regular session in a few more weeks. Had I known that touch-​ups were available to me in such a circumstance, I would have called weeks prior regarding the issue to save myself the trouble.
Also, despite what was said on Unilocal,the owner has been very kind to me over the phone and in person.

This place is clean and has a cozy feeling. The staffs are nice but can be rude at times. If you’re like me with a busy work schedule, trying to reach someone there is a pain because 9 out of 10 the phone will go unanswered.

I tried Desert In Bloom because I bought a Groupon for Laser Hair Removal. Honestly, the place kind of creeps me out. Don’t get me wrong, it’s clean enough but it’s in a weird location and something about it just bothers me. You have to be buzzed into the building, and then when you come into the office they send you back to another waiting room. The place is always dead, I’ve never seen another person there in the 4 times I’ve been there. When I call to schedule they always have a million openings, especially as the bikini area takes about 10 min. However, I tried to reschedule once; and you would have thought I was asking for an entire day to be dedicated to me; not trying to find time to squeeze in a 10 min procedure. I dread coming to this place each time but I’m determined to finish out my Groupon as I’ve already spent the money. If you don’t have a coupon of some kind, I would recommend finding a better spa to have your treatments done. Their normal prices are about the same as higher end spas.

This place is BEAUTIFUL. The layout and design is relaxing on its own. The The people who run this company are friendly. The laser hair removal technician is so friendly. While doing the procedure she talks to you making it so much more comfortable. I’ll be going to this place for a long while!

Showed up 15mins early for an appointment and waited til 10mins after the appointment started. Nobody ever arrived and my calls were never returned. Very unprofessional.
Update:
I’m editing my review as 1 star is unfair when I never received the services and the owner gets a star for following up with me later on the phone.
However, the owner indicated in his response that I was meant to wait for a confirmation call which I was never informed of when I made the appointment. Had they said not to come unless I got the call, I wouldn’t have gone and waited and this situation would have been avoided. In addition, It was a Saturday not a Sunday. The appointment was scheduled for 4÷9÷2011.
Update again:
I hadn’t thought about this place until recently a friend also had a bad experience. This owner seems to be going through negative reviews and accusing the customers of being at fault for the bad customer service. Much like he did with me by outright lying about some «confirmation call» I was supposed to get. That, and he’s convinced that some Unilocal conspiracy exists to keep his good reviews down. It’s not a conspiracy. You’re just that bad.

This review is purely for the laser hair removal treatments.
Joyce is the technician, and not only is she incredibly nice, but she’s also experienced. Even though the salon has only been open for a few months, she has been doing hair removal with that specific laser machine for several years. She makes you feel extremely comfortable, and it’s a bonus that she’s fun to talk to while you’re getting your treatment completed.
Mark runs the front of the office, and he has always been extremely accommodating each time I call. They’re very flexible with their schedule, and a bonus is that they’re open pretty late for us folks who can’t get off work before 5 or 6 pm.
The spa itself is beautiful and sultry. The building itself is a little odd in that you have to be buzzed in to get into the building before finding their suite.
I couldn’t ask for more friendly or knowledgeable staff!
Tip: Be sure to call before you drop by the spa to make sure someone is there in the office!
