Cypress Academy of Gymnastics & Performing Arts

My 4 yr old grand daughter loves her gymnastics class. The instructors are friendly and spend a lot of time with each child. The parents day out and special programs are especially fun for the kids.
My only complaint is their communication with the families. Last week was a special Frozen play day… I was given different info on each of the three times I called to find out about it as I did not get any emails about it. The day of the event I still hadn’t gotten all the correct details. Other parents had gotten NO info… some had lunches, others were told they didn’t need one. A few little girls didn’t have princess dresses as they weren’t told they could wear them. Emailing full details is really a simple tasks or at least having your staff all know what to tell families. The academy is very large and deals with a lot of kids… maybe have a special person in charge of PR and emailing families details of upcoming events. The emails I do get are vague… I like details, complete details.
But to end on a very positive note… the Frozen play day was so fun. My grand daughter loved it… I would take her again! But now I know to take a lunch, drink, princess dress, come back early for their performance, have camera.

This GYM is huge & has affordable classes. Both my kids live coming here for gymnastics and I’m very happy to have found this place.

Update 5÷1÷14: A Manager called to discuss our issues. We were assured they would work on addressing the concerns. Great customer service.
We’ve been going to Cypress Academy on and off for a few years. They have lots of class times and great discounts for siblings. But that’s really where the good stops.
My kids tried out dance which was horrible, did gymnastics for a few months, and then switched to tumbling. We don’t do cheer.
Parking is a nightmare.
Getting a seat is a nightmare (in the tumbling area).
Coaches — some good, some not so good.
Office — some good, some not so good.
Had 1 birthday party there and it was fine. Nothing to brag about, nothing to complain about.
Lately, I feel this place has been going downhill. I’m sure that money is their primary focus as it is for any business, but when the quality of instruction goes down, then it’s time to change.
I had 3 girls in tumbling for the last year. 1 quit a few months ago because her coach was being mean to her. We don’t do this for sport, we do it for fun. It’s not fun to have a mean coach. One that provides helpful criticism is great, one that is mean is not.
My 10 year old had had the same problem this past month. The coach reduced her to tears. NOT fun anymore. NOT what she signed up for. She’s quitting as soon as her 2 weeks is up (I gave notice today).
Other secondary issues:
1) Communication. It’s poor. All I get is spam mail from them. Cheerleading stuff, theater stuff, parents day out stuff. I just hit delete. When they did send something I needed to read I deleted it because it looked like a flyer. And nobody TELLS you there’s not going to be class the next week, they assume you read those flyer looking spam emails that you deleted. Oops. I wasn’t happy. When I complained, I got an unsigned email back from the office saying «should have read your email». Send me a text email and I will.
2) Cheer. My kids are in tumbling, not cheer. They have never been in cheer and never will be in cheer. But this place caters to the cheerleaders. The music is ridiculously loud and not always appropriate. I’ve watched my daughters’ class sit and wait or stretch longer because the cheerleaders are taking too long. They need to either have a separate time or area for tumbling or somehow split the room. I realize that cheer brings in a ton of their money, but they lost 3 kids (possibly more because I have 6 kids) by catering to those cheerleaders. Not to mention the seating area and the parking lot are full.
3) Class size. The classes are too big. They already break them into groups and have way too many in each group. Kids are always waiting for their turn. My kids are in advanced tumbling and want to learn how to be better. One coach told one of my daughters that they couldn’t help her perfect something she was having trouble with. (We tried out another tumbling place last week and one coach worked one on one with her on this issue).
Like I said, we gave our 2 week notice and are going someplace else.

This place is great. It really is. Great instructors, great atmosphere, and great price.

The parking.
As a parent I love that my kids want to do extra stuff. This place is perfect! However, if you want to park here you might as well get there 20 minutes before your class and HOPE you don’t have to drive loop after loop to find a place.
Then if your kid does great and you have a late class, all the cheerleading parents block off a whole lane waiting to pick up their kids. Annoying.
Once this is fixed I would have no issue giving this place 5 stars.

My daughter loves this gym and she is doing well and learning a lot. However, I believe they are making enough money to make the gym smell less like feet and the bathrooms to smell less like turds. Literally, every time I go in there it STINKS! I also think they should have a separate changing room.

I love the private lessons with coach Tatum! when we first started I felt there were too many kids in each class but as my daughter has moved up levels I see less kids in a class and the same coaches!

I am still trying to figure this place out. We do see that «Volume» is probably an important business model for this Gym but since we are new to the sport, we are just beginning to become a little more critical.
We are seeking a Gym that will help our child grow in the sport but are concerned that new comers get added to his group and coaches frequently change. It seems the coaches get pulled for other groups at different times. My son was once a new comer and we respect that one must start from the bottom up approach but after being there over a year, we see ourselves in the same spot. What is their strategy and mission? That is important to know.
Discipline and safety are crucial in this sport. Those children who really love the sport and look forward to going to their classes (like our son) can get discouraged if they remain in the same level. We have suggested private classes but was told …“your child is making progress”. For the amount of money we have already paid, we think our child should be far more advanced than he already is but his coaches are always changing. Children need consistent instructors.
On a positive note: We do like the positive and energetic attitude the coaches have towards the children. We have noticed the children are known by name despite the large amount of kids that attend. Each child is treated with respect and corrected when needed. Speaking with the coaches and letting them know what your child’s goals are is also vital in making progress. So we will take this next step and see what we can accomplish.
We just want to see more progress for the money that has already been invested in this sport. We know that if our son decides to call it quits, he learned some basic rules on how to survive a fall. We also know that it is healthy to have a balance of education and sports so for now we will keep it fun. We hope to have a better review next year and have confidence that the coaches will work with us in helping our son achieve his personal goals.

Wow !!! Great time here. Went to a birthday party. Very well organized. Lots to do from bouncing, walking beams, jumping in a pool of soft blocks then in the end a big castle like play area. Staff was friendly and seemed to enjoy what they do. May have my kids party there in the future.

This place is a zoo!
It’s great facility with a lot of space and equipment but it seems like their focus is quantity over quality. They have soooo many classes and soooo many kids. They also seem to be branching out in several different directions. Gymnastics, cheerleading, and now I see the sign for performing arts?
The parking lot is CRAZY. Be ready for a stroke every time you come and go.
I know it’s an athletic facility, but it stinks in there too. My gym doesnt smell that bad and there’s plenty of sweating going on there too!
Ok, sure, it’s the home of Jonathan Horton, yada yada yada. Great. But when you have huge classes with a sausage-​making– machine mentality, how much great instruction are the kids getting?
My kids love going there, but as a parent I see things they don’t. The place is a juggernaut; expensive and huge.
I’m not saying not to go there or give it a try. I’m trying to temper your expectations.

Been going here for various activities from gymnastics to musical theater and my kiddo loves it.
Be patient with the parking lot, it could be A LOT WORSE with the volume they hold.
A few times, some crappy inconsiderate parents will send their children to «hold» parking spots for them, by having them stand and wait for their cars to get around the parking lot and well, my evil side wants to just bump them out (just a tap with my Pilot), but the thought passes and I park somewhere else.
If you have a kiddo who has a recital there, make sure you arrival AT LEAST 30 minutes early to get a decent spot to sit/​park.
Oh yeah, if you have to go to the bathroom or if you have a baby, they do not have a changing table anywhere (that I have found) and their bathroom are always subpar.

Simply awsome! My girls loved it. I will defiantly be back! They have everything from gymnastics to acting for children! the people are very nice as well! And the place is huge! perfect place for kids to grow and learn!

I’ve been sending my kids to this place for about 15 years for either gymnastics, dance, or theatre classes. The reason we keep returning is that they have the best staff and they are all about the kids. Tuition is so reasonable. The new performing arts staff are the best. I just started my son in their boy’s hip hop class. The instructor, Gary, is the bomb! They offer free trial classes so you can try it before you sign up.
Another great thing about Cypress Academy is their gymnastic birthday parties. VERY reasonably price. I know because one year I waited too long and they were booked up for the date I wanted. I called around and found out that everyone else was much more expensive. I took the late date and kept money in my checkbook.
