This is a very nice salon! I really enjoyed how they treated me there and my blonde highlights look very cute and natural. I also got a cut and it’s the best I’ve ever gotten. They really went above and beyond to give good service and skills. I will be back, thanks!

I’ve been going to Steve for haircuts for about 8 years now. He is not only an amazing hair stylist, he is a great person too. He takes time with your hair to make sure your are fully satisfied and that he is fully satisfied to make sure every detail is spot on. I appreciate this fact b/​c you know you are getting your money’s worth. I’m about 20 minutes out from where he is located and there are tons of other hair salons that are a lot closer, but I will not go anywhere else. His sister Lily also works there and she is just as nice as Steve and she does a lot of the coloring I believe. They work amazing together as a team. You need to have a personal relationship with a hair stylist that you trust b/​c hair grows all the time. Give Steve a try and you will not be disappointed!

I’ve been one of Steve’s clients for 2 yrs now. Whether I needed a trim or major cut, Steve always gave me exactly what I was looking for. But being a bachelor, I liked Steve’s style suggestions.

Went in for an ombré for my spring hair.
I spoke to steve and he gave me a natural ombré with NO BLEACH. My hair was so smooth and not damaged.

What a great find! We starting going here after moving to Houston about 8 months ago after trying several other sub-​par places. Both Lily and Steve are incredible at what they do! They take the time to make things exactly as you want it. I have never had anyone pay so much attention to detail to make sure my cut is perfect. To top it off, their prices are very affordable considering what a great quality cut you are getting. Thanks Lily and Steve for putting such obvious care and effort into your work every day. I had a wonderful experience at 901 Salon. Steve and Lily were awesome, I had partial highlights and a hair trim. They took time to go above and beyond, my hair looks great and they were very sweet! Definitely recommend.

I went to Steve several times for my mid length haircut and were fine most of the time. Till the last time I told myself I won’t go back again. I asked for a different style of short hair which I showed him pictures I like and he was ok with it. It turned out to be the same cut he did for me before, just more shorter and bang. I looked much much older with a very bulky hair in the side and flat at the back. I had to tell him I was not confident to leave the shop like this do please fix it. He did what I said but didn’t offer any suggestions to improve. Of course he wanted to be done with me because another customer was waiting. Even Steve himself and Lily were not dared to say I wear a nice haircut. They looked at me with a sad eyes and kept saying it was ok. I was very disappointed. He looks professional in what he is doing but only at his level. If you compared him with other hairdresser, you may find the truths. I would have given 4 – 5 stars if Steve is able to stay consistently with his technique especially for short hair and was willing to go outside of his comfort zone. Other than that, he and Lily are nice friendly people.

Spent a lot of time on my cut to give me exactly what I wanted — layers and side bangs. Service was great — I’d come back again.

They provide very welcomed and kind service.

Best cut that I have had in Houston, especially for the price.
I have fine hair that requires frequent cuts & am tired of spending $ 65 – 80 dollars for a simple cut.
This place is friendly, easy to get to, no nonsense, excellent cut!

I absolutely loved me service today. I got a voucher off the living social app for a cut and conditioning treatment and it was worth it. It was only $ 30! Its pretty easy to find, no difficulty there. Lily did my service and it was quick and relaxing from beginning to end. I believe it’s her and her brother that run the salon.
As soon as I walked in they got me started they did let me know before hand that there would be extra charge since my hair was long and I was fine with that. My hair is amazing it’s silky and the layer she did is awesome. I will be returning! She said she can help me even out the at home dye job I did on myself. Thank goodness for 901.

How can it be that I’m the first person to review this place?!? I had to keep checking to make sure I was reviewing the right salon, because a find like this deserves some Unilocal-​notification.
My local stylist left town and after a couple of dreadful cuts, I started looking for a new salon and stylist. It’s hard to start with a new salon & stylist. I was dreading the search. I’m a guy. I’m no hair expert & I don’t know the technical jargon, so I’m not good at describing what I want. I’m also follicularly challenged (damn you x-​chromosome). It’s tough to find a decent hair salon that not only cuts, but also styles my hair so that I don’t leave as Bad Hair Day Champion. Basically, I’m not going to go to barber shops or mall salons or any sports-​themed salon (nothing wrong with them, just not for me). So how often do I ever feel excited about a haircut? Almost never.
Imagine then how pleased I was to stumble upon 901 Salon & Boutique. It’s in a house on W. Gray just East of Montrose. I don’t usually care how fancy a salon is, but I like to see a space that the owner takes care of and looks like they’ve put thought and pride into it. This place is clean, bright, stylish and airy. The ambiance of the salon is very friendly and welcoming. It’s also part jewelry boutique (more about that later).
So I made an appointment, showed up, sat in the chair, and told Steve (the owner and stylist) to do whatever he thought would look good. Well, he proceeded to give me one of the best haircuts I’ve had in a long time. There was no tedious small talk, no «oops» moments, no inept directions required from me. He just did it, and did it well. It’s unfortunate that a very short cut makes me look like I’m bald instead of merely going bald (yes, my vanity says that there is a difference!). Steve knew just how to cut my hair to give it a great shape that’s both looks good and is manageable. He gave me an awesome cut that looks good in the morning with minimal effort, or can, with a bit of product, be fancied up for the evening.
On the way out, my eyes strayed to the jewelry displays. I was in such a good mood from my reflection that I actually took the time to look at the necklaces (very unique — more jewelry store like and not your typical «salon» necklaces) and picked one up for my girlfriend. To say it was the best night of life … well, not quite, but she was thrilled, and I was happy.
I’ve been back there and have never left disappointed. I even had my girlfriend start going. She sees Lilly (I think Steve’s sister) and gets her hair cut, styled, colored & highlighted — all of it. She loves it and especially likes the price and value.
