Really disappointed!!! BLM states 6 campsites, WRONG, there is only 2… Imagine you get off work Friday, get home, load the truck/car, and head out for a great relaxing weekend get away. That’s what I had planned, instead I arrive at 6:00 to find both of the 2 campsites occupied!!! WTF I said, there was apparently 6 sites! Yeah, no, only 2 real sites. We settled on a patch of dirt off the side of the road without the ability to make a fire(no fire pit). We made do, we had a gas bbq so it wasn’t a total failure YET. When we settled into our tent it was peaceful until we heard a large cat growling at us!!! Needless to say, we didn’t sleep much and left first thing in the AM. Did I mention you have to take a rugged dirt road with lots of potholes for 8 miles that took 35 – 40 min. The BLM needs to pay more attention to this site as well. Trash, disgusting toilets, mountain lions?, and only 2 of a reported 6 sites will not getting me back here anytime soon!

Sheldon Creek Rec site is the very definition or remote. Like the other reviewers stated, it takes a long drive down a beaten trail road to get to the site, it’s out in the boonies for sure. I see that people have stated that there are 6 camp sites, but I could only see 2 definitive sites. One was occupied by a large group, but we took the other smaller site right by the creek. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet, no thrills camping, this is a great spot. You have your basics — fire pit, table and bathroom(though not sure if it’s been serviced in the last 12 months!). As others said, there were some clay shells around, so people had obviously been shooting up there.

Stumbled upon Sheldon Creek by chance. Was driving down to San Francisco and decided that camping was a good idea. It’s located about 8 miles down a gravel road and definitely bumpy. The campground itself is pretty nice, you can tell people abuse it though. There are gun shells and clay disc remnants everywhere. It also looks like some a@@holes have been shooting the trees and bathroom.(the door to the bathroom is missing(ventilation?) We got there in the evening and had one neighbor. He had a camouflage tent over his car and it was completely pitch black. Definitely a «Hills Have Eye’s» type of scene. He then proceeded to leave at about 2:30 am, while loudly blasting NPR type radio. Point is, your in the middle of nowhere and there could be all kinds of crazies around, be aware and smart. I love the remoteness and the different areas, there are two actual sites with fire pits, I noticed a few other sites but there weren’t any definitive markings stating they were sites. I loved Sheldon Creek, I took away one star because its seems that service personnel go up there maybe once a year. Overall its a good site, just be aware people use it as a gun range and there could be crazy people with camp tarps over there car, with an affinity for NPR.

Sheldon Creek has some very nice campsites way back in the valley behind Hopland. To get there you have to driving a fair way along a winding dirt road that has more than a few potholes, but the views of the valley and hills are well worth the drive. The six campsites are quite separated from each other so you don’t have to worry about hearing your neighbors. It is BLM land so you don’t have to keep your dogs on leash. Boudicca and Jules Verne had a Blast running around the woods while we stayed here. The majority of the trees are Madrone and I have always been fond of those trees. There is some poison oak to watch out for, but just a little here and there. Great spot for car camping!
