McNab Ridge Winery Tasting Room

The wine tastings were free and delicious. We tried mostly reds and really enjoyed and bought the pinotage and carisma. Friendly staff and a cute quaint place. Definitely recommend stopping in.

There was a great selection of wines and many of them were delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely make a stop by if you are in the area.

I am a zealot when it comes to this place. Although I don’t make it to Hopland very often, when I do, I try to make it a point to stop in this tasting room to sample the latest delights and to buy at least a couple of bottles, when I time it right. Their pinotage is my favorite, and it may very likely be the only one available in Mendocino. A fairly hard-​to-​come-​by South African varietal, it’s a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut: this has quickly become my favorite. The French Colombard is delightful too, a light, slightly sweet aromatic white, which is also seemingly rare to find and unfortunately is usually one of their smaller production wines, since I don’t believe the vineyard for that one is particularly large.
Their cabernet is fabulous and a steal for waht you’re paying. It feels so wrong, and yet so right.
I even adore their Merlot and Petite Syrah and these aren’t varietals I seem to have much luck with in other wineries. Merlot is not a particularly «fashionable» grape these days, but I think you oughta give theirs a shot and forget about what’s trendy. I think you’ll be glad you did. The wines are all so beautifully balanced, and I believe they farm organically as well, though don’t quote me on that. If so, big, big plus for me.
The best part — aside from the fact that you will probably want to buy one of everything — is that their wines are just so, so good and seem absurdly inexpensive (even more so if you are part of the wine club — Ding!) for how delicious and high quality they are. When I asked the folks in the tasting room why they are so reasonable, when they clearly could charge more for what they offer, they gave the best possible answer: «Rich doesn’t believe that you should have to pay a lot for good wine.» This third generation winemaker is my favorite in Mendocino County, for this among many other reasons, which you will soon discover when you sample his wines.

This place is an all time favorite winery ANYWHERE. In my top 5 wineries. They have an outstanding variety & quality of wines. The style of wine is very user friendly, no aging, aerating, you get the idea, just open & drink. Some of my past & current favorites the Carignane (oh yeah), petite sirah, french columbard, pinotage (yummy), and the port. And the best part? You won’t be sad that your bottle is empty because you can actually afford more! Unlike other bottles I remember *sniff*
If you can make it on a second Saturday of the month they have food and music so bring a friend. They’ll be excited to be let in on this little secret. You can join the email list on their website to get event reminders.

This winery was recommended by a wins shop in Mendocino, and I’m glad we made the effort to come to the winery to taste. First, the new tasting room right on the main drag in Hopland is easy to find and beautiful. Second, there’s a great selection of wines (I think we tasted a dozen), most of which are at exceptional price points. Third, the quality of the wines were uniformly quite good; there were some I preferred over others, but overall quality was very high, and makes the price/​quality ratio exceptional. Fourth, the staff there (our pourer was Sandy) was very friendly and welcoming.
I taste alot of wine (lucky me!) and was really blown away by this winery.

Really good wines at the right price point. Zinzella is delious. French Columbard is perfect for the summer patio drink. All of there wines pair nicely with food. Fred’s red and Tines white are wonderful everyday wines. Go, taste and enjoy the delightful interaction with the host and/​or hostess!

I walked away with a chocolste port that tases like tootsie rolls, and a delicous peach basalmic. That being said on the the rest of the tasting.
Came for the first time with my parents during one of the crab and wine weekends. It was their last weekend in their old tasting room so I have not yet seen the newer one. I can say the old tasting room though was beautiful.
The attendants in the tasting room were cheerful and lovely and participated in the friendlh banter that I have to come to enjoy so much in the anderson vallry hopland wineries. The winemaker himself also made an appearence as they were hurridly trying to tranfer into their new locale across the street (literally it is right across the street).
As with most of the wineries up here I ws able to taste far more than their stipuate 3.
I am not a white wine fan as much as I am a red wine fanatic but this doesn’t mean I won’t take my fsthers advice and try whites that he finds eceptional. (when it comes to wine I find Daddy does know best. Their french colombard is amazing.
On to the red… The mendo Zin. sigh such a heavenly zin. For thsoe that like the jammy zins that leave you thinking berries etc then this zin is for you.
Moving on from there their Zinster reserve is the next level of happiness on the zin scale. The price point on this zin is reflective of the fact it it a reserve but the waulity goes along with it. I enjoy this zin because while it was definatly a bigger zin, it was not so tannic as to dissuade a white drinker from enjoying it. (I find one of the most common complaints i get from friends wh don’t like reds is that the zins are too tannic for them)
Anyways Like with all wine revies everyone has their own pallate. I highly suggest stopping by and checking these guys out though if you are in the hopland area.

Of the wineries I visited during a Mendocino county trip, McNab Ridge was the favorite. Why? They had the most different types of wine to taste. They were very friendly and courteous to all visitors. I went during the Mendocino Wine and Mushroom festival, so this made the tasting experience even better. Upon arriving at the winery, the employees provided a plate a food including tri tip, mushroom soup, and other items made with mushrooms. There were over 15 different types of red wines to taste. It’s almost impossible to not find any wine that you like. In the end, I bought a case of two of my 2 favorite ones. By the way, the entire tasting is free, even if you don’t purchase any wine. Also, the price of the wine isn’t that high either (the ones that I bought ranged between $ 12 to $ 20), unlike some of their competitors in the area that sell way overpriced wines. There was never any pressure to buy, and everyone working over there seemed like they were seriously enjoying what they were doing.

What a fun winery to visit! They offer a large variety of wines to taste, they don’t charge you a tasting fee, and I can almost guarantee that they’ll have something you’ll like (Unless you’re a white zin drinker… then you’re beyond help). Some favorites of mine are the Zinzilla, the Viognier, and their Pinotage. *swoon* Affordable prices, fun little gift shop area, friendly staff… just a nice little stop along the dusty winetasting trail!

A very large tasting list [more than 10 wines as best I recall] which had several that I liked including the Muscato, the Viognier. Many are reasonably priced and I think the discount was 15% for 6 or more bottles. Well worth visiting again.

Talk about bang for your buck. You can score some serious bargains at this low priced Mendocino County winery. Their Cononiah Zin is excellent. Their Fred’s Red at $ 10 a bottle is a steal.
