Idlewild is a Convenience Market located in the heart of downtown Hood River.

History

Established in 2012.

After a 25 year career in health care I opened Idlewild Market as a start-​up in downtown Hood River. Having lived in Hood River in 1993, I realized that by 2012 there was still no convenience store in downtown Hood River! I felt this would be the perfect opportunity to fill a need and realize the dream of entrepreneurship. Like all start-​ups it’s been a learning curve and when I opened I had more space to fill than I had the budget for; but in the end the location could not have been better! Now, after a 26 months I’m slowly adding more and more inventory, making plans for future growth and couldn’t be happier to be part of this amazing community. Nina Buckley — Idlewild Market — 2014

Business Owner

Nina was born in Capetown South Africa to missionary parents who later immigrated to the United States. Nina has lived in Northern California (Napa Valley), Southern California (Santa Monica), Portland, Oregon (Lake Oswego) and now Hood River, OR. Nina came from a long career in Health Care working for an independently owned Emergency Room Physicians Group. When her company was sold in 2011, Nina decided it was her time to pursue her dream of entrepreneurship. This dream led her to open her business where she ultimately wanted to retire. Looking at several business models she felt that a convenience market in downtown hood river would fill a much needed niche and give her the opportunity to be involved with the community.
