Yi Xuan

Went in for some Chinese proverb scrolls for my parents. Owner is really nice explained to me what it meant and help me pick a gift for my parents. He also carves Chinese stone stamps by hand! I thought that was really cool.

Yi Xuan is located in Honolulu’s Chinatown district and specializes in traditional Chinese art. Zong Chen Liu specializes in Chinese stone stamp carving, calligraphy and paper cut. Liu is a master artist in his own right and has been doing his craft for close to 60 years. Although he doesn’t look a day over 45, but trust me he’s a master of his craft. He also does framing, business signs, business seals, personalized chops carving with English and/​or Chinese names. He’ll translate names from English to Chinese and carve them or paint it on red paper with gold ink. I’ll put up a pic soon. He’s also done a number of name translations and calligraphy pieces as tattoo designs… if you are into that sort of stuff. His customer base includes locals, tourist, young, old, traditional and eccentric individuals. He does ship orders for all those visitors not in town for very long. Although he can typically carve a name or business seal in a couple of hours. Makes a great birthday, Christmas or wedding gift.
