I lived in Germany for three years and miss the food constantly — so finding Thomas and the Wurst-Wagen was quite a delight! Not only is the food good, but the conversation is always fantastic — I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had so far — even more impressive is that my mother(who hated everything in Germany) LOVES the schnitzel.(This first thing she asked when I picked her up at the airport is if we could go back to the Wurst Wagen for some schnitzel.) I love the potato salad, the spaetzle, the Nuremberg brats, the jäger schnitzel — AND you can buy some pre-packaged authentic German bratwurst to take home and BBQ! My only wish is that we had authentic German bread — but this is about as good as you could ask for without actually setting foot in Germany. Thank you Thomas!!!

Oh mein Gott, so lecker! Das ist mein deutscher Lieblingsessen in Hawaii. Einfach, erschwinglich und lecker! Boy do I miss having German food all the time(although my belly doesn’t)! In Hawaii, it’s so difficult to find authentic European foods, and near to impossible to find the heavy and starchy foods of Germany. The Wurst-Wagen is the best place possible, so it’s worth tracking them down! For the recent Eat the Street Oktoberfest, the Wurst-Wagen and its friendly staff didn’t disappoint. I had the Oktoberfest sampler with three types of bratwurst, karoffelsalat, käsespätzle, saurkraut, und brezel mit senf. Everything was great, and went well with the local biergarten’s Oktoberfest brews. Portions are large, and prices are good. Viel Spaß!

I really, really wanted to like this unique operation that promised to give real German food out of a lunch wagon. The menu was simple with just schnitzel, sausages, potato salad or spatzle. The gentleman who runs the business is a real German(and super friendly). So a simple menu + real German at the helm of the stove should equal at minimum good food… Wrong. The schnitzel had a terrible ‘county fair’ overused and heavy greasy component that completely overwhelmed my sensory faculties in a gross way, the solid component of the schnitzel appeared to have made multiple trips to the deep fryer for reheating rendering the meat into a very strange jerky with a super hard crust. I even pulled a dark hair out imbedded in the crust which further grossed me out before tossing in the trash. Accompanying German style potato salad was swimming in heavy oil and devoid of taste(no evidence of mustard or chopped onion along with spices). I am giving two stars based on not trying the sausages(they appeared to look ok from the distance) and the enjoyable personality of the owner. Btw, I know German food well as I lived in Germany for 3 years and grew up with a native Swiss mother. Hopefully, I just showed up on a bad day; however, I won’t be back to check out this possibility.

All fresh homemade authentic German food! Absolutely delicious! Even my picky daughter was impressed, that’s not easy to do.

Yummy!!! I’ve never had German food before but when I saw a picture of the Wurst-Wagen on instagram I was instantly intrigued. The lunch wagon was parked on Hickam in the parking lot where the Burger King is located. The owner was so friendly and charming! I ordered the Franconian Bratwurst plate and a pretzel. I love Sauerkraut so I was super excited, and I was not disappointed! The sauerkraut was delicious and the bratwurst was so yummy. I was surprised I liked the potato salad because I don’t normally eat potato salad! The only thing is that I wish they opened earlier since our lunch breaks end at 11:30. You should definitely try the Wurst-Wagen! :)

Wowwwweeeee! This is so dang good. Never really had authentic German food, but I would think this is damn close, especially in Hawaii. The lunch wagon is only in Chinatown on Thursday’s, otherwise he is usually parked at Hickam. The gentleman running the wagon, whom I presume is the owner, is one of the nicest people; very courteous and genuinely cares about his product. I ordered the Franconian Bratwurst, which came with two brats, no bun. You can either choose potato salad(not made with mayo) or sauerkraut, or half and half. I opted for the half and half. Sauerkraut– I can say this is the best I have ever had. I love the stuff, but generally just eat it straight from the can. The Wagen’s kraut is different, chock full of flavor and yummy spices. The potato salad was just as good, and I love that it doesn’t have mayo in it. The brats were on point, grilled to perfection, with zero gristle. Prices and portions are just right. If you see this lunch wagon anywhere, TRYIT! Not only will you thoroughly enjoy the flavors, but, you won’t experience anything else like it in Hawaii, which that in it’s own, reason enough.

It was disappointing to come for the Wiener schnitzel and he ran out. Just one hour after he opened. Overpriced for the amount of food.

If you miss German food, come try this place. I’ve tried the Weiner Schnitzel and it was just like being back there. Be sure to squeeze the lemon over the schnitzel! Trying the goulash today!

Authentic German food. Superb potatoe salad and sauer kraut, hard to find in Hawaii. The chef is exceptionally courteous and professional, always a good experience. Great schnitzel, great everything, got to get some classic German food every now and again… only place on Oahu!

I am German myself and it is really disappointing to say that the Wurst Wagen is truly a disappointment and a shame for true German food. Living on the island you do not come across a German food truck that often, thus my hubby and I have been super excited to check it out. The first time was during eat the street Oktoberfest. I had the Schnitzel with potato salad and a Bretzel, my husband the meatloaf with a Kaiser bun. The bread was several day old, hard and tasteless. The meatloaf was cold, tasteless and it tasted not fresh. The Schnitzel was a bit better but definitely not freshly made. The both of us were very disappointed. Maybe it is just me but if you live in another place in the world and decide to bring the flavors of your country to people you think you would wanna put some love and passion into your food. Since I am German and like I said the German food here is lacking, I wanted to give the Wurst Wagen a second chance. Yesterday, at the Honolulu music and art festival we tried the Bratwurst with the Kaiserbun and potato salad as well as the Schnitzel with a Bretzel. This time was even worse! The bread and Bretzel again was stale. When I got back to the owner he arrogantly responded: I know I know they are old that is why I gave you the Bretzel for 2 $ instead of 3 $. He gave me a second for free but he totally missed the point because I didn’t want any of his old Bretzels not even for free! It’s a scam for me and I really have to say that it is disappointing to say that of my countryman!

First of all, the man that runs Wurst-Wagen is a pure delight. So nice and friendly, and I loved how he said, «auf wiedersehen» as we left. The food was great too. I had the Jaeger schnizel served with spätzle and mushroom gravy. It comes in a smaller container, but the portion was quite large and I wasn’t able to finish it all. Very tasty! Some of my friends had other items that included German potato salad and sauerkraut on the side, and those were delicious as well. I think next time I will try a bratwurst plate.

The first time we ate here we loved it. Great authentic German food. The second time we went, they’d reduced their portions while keeping the price the same. The worst part was that the bratwurst was seriously undercooked, which made my wife violently ill for 2 days. We haven’t been back since.

Being originally from Germany and visiting there occasionally I can truly say that their food is authentic. I especially am a Curry Wurst fan and it does not disappoint. If the food truck was in town where I work I would probably eat there everyday. But since it’s not, its a special treat for me. If you’ve never had authentic German street food, give them a try. Wish they had fine German beer to wash it down with ;0)

Good stuff, they actually have a grill and a deep fryer so fried foods are good. Menu is basically schnitzel or sausages. Would recommend the schnitzel, somewhat similar to tonkatsu. Try the currywurst to see what ketchup mixed with curry powder taste like

The one authentic Bratwurst you can get on the island. Anything you can buy in the supermarket or delis is … different. Tried the Bratwurst musubi today and it was fabulous. They should offer them as a regular item. Will try more of their items soon!

Ever since I went to Eat the Street: Oktoberfest, I’ve fallen in love with their Franconian Bratwurst Plate – Two pieces of Bratwurst over Sauerkraut – SOGOOD. The Bratwurst was really flavorful with the herbs and not salty or overpowering like some of the store bought stuff… in fact the sausages are freshly made right here locally! Shortly after that first bite, I’ve found them on Twitter and Instagram and have prayed that they would tweet a schedule when they’ll be on the road. Those prayers have been answered and they were out and about this past week! Stopped by when they were in Mapunapuna on a Tuesday and couldn’t find parking near by… had to park about a quarter-mile away on Pu’uloa Street(they were located on Awa’awa’loa Street), which wasn’t too bad because admittedly i needed the exercise. But that was a quarter-mile of separation between me and my soon-to-be-lunch – I was forgiving because as a new food truck with a unique offering, they’re still feeling out where the best place to be posted up, is. Thomas and Martin were working the truck that day and we were talking story about how I heard about their truck, whether they’d be at Eat the Street again, and stuff like that… the service was fantastic and Thomas even stepped out of the truck to take my picture since I was trying to take a selfie with their cute Doggy logo. What I got: * Franconian Bratwurst Plate, Sauerkraut, $ 7.00 * Schnitzel on German Roll, $ 6.00 TIP: If you get the Schnitzel, you have to add Ketchup or Mustard, otherwise it’d be like a lone pork cutlet on a bun, which was still delicious, but sans the ketchup/mustard, I was definitely feeling like i was missing something. As of this writing, the truck is Cash-Only, so don’t forget to stop by at the ATM before heading on over. Follow them on Twitter at @wurstwagenhi, Instagram @wurstwagenhi, or on

I love the food! The Nürnberger sausages are a common sausage that the Germans serve. This is as authentic as it gets. These sausages served with a side of the potato salad and sauerkraut are delicious. Sausages weren’t too fatty and potato salad was refreshing! I got to speaking with one of the guys who worked there and they make everything from scratch including their bread. Wow! I can’t wait to have them again!

My dad sometimes thinks he’s a German National. He can speak maybe 10 words in German and loves drinking beer. He also loves the chicken dance. As a result, I’ve been to many Oktoberfests. I don’t think you understand how excited I was for ETS: Oktoberfest. ETS! + Oktoberfest?! What better combination?! Unfortunately, it was a bit of a let down. I think it should be required that each food truck at ETS have at least a few offerings that relate to the theme. I was stuck with only a couple options as I hunted for authentic-looking German food. Wurst Wagen was one of these options. My friend and I shared a a little bratwurst sandwich appetizer thing. For $ 4.50, it consisted of three lil-smokies sized sausages in a very chewy bun. Unfortunately, I changed my invisalign aligners that morning and my teeth were achey as heck. The flavor was there, but I would have preferred one larger sausage in a bun instead I think. The three tiny sausages made me feel like I wasn’t getting ripped off. There was a HUGE line, meaning we waited for 20 minutes in the line and another 10 – 15 minutes for our sausage sandwich. Mehhhh. It was good, but not worth the wait at all.

2.5STARS Saw these guys at this past Eat the Street: Oktoberfest! I will give them props for filling an uncommon niche in the Hawaii food truck scene. Of course since the theme was Oktoberfest, I had to get some German grub, and this truck seemed perfect for the job. There was already somewhat of a line at 530, and since I’m often a victim of the crowd mentality, I figured it must be good since there’s a line! Hahaha. The menu was printed really small. TIP: I like the trucks that have huge signs in big font with nice pictures. So I waited. I’d say from the start of waiting in line until getting my food it took about 30 – 35 minutes. Kinda long. These guys were working hard though– only 3 people total; 2 people cooking and one guy taking orders/expediting. They were clearly struggling a bit with the volume of the orders and honestly things looked chaotic and frantic back there. The bratwurst($ 7) was… not the kind of bratwurst I was expecting. I think I’ve only had the thicker, whiter variety. Apparently the one Wurst Wagen serves is called Frankische and it was really skinny, dark, and had many flecks of herbs. I got it with sauerkraut and it was good but was it worth $ 7? I’m not sure. Dare my unrefined pallet say it was just like a well-seasoned yet ordinary sausage. We also tried the bratwurst slider and well, of course, it was the same thing. Just 3 of the same but smaller bratwursts in a bun. No sauce or anything, pretty much just meat and bun slapped together. Aiya. Not worth $ 4.50! I don’t know if this truck will make it… but I hope they do!!! It’s a good concept and I trust that they are legit. I think they were greatly overwhelmed at ETS so I hope they figure things out and make it run a bit more smoothly. And add something to that slider!
