UYE There’s No Place Like Home @ Home Bar & Grill

Shelly did the burger challenge and although the burger won out in the end, I think that this only proves further that Women are indeed better than Men. That’s right, I’m calling you out DUDES! Two facts to prove my point:
1) Women are so strong that we have been chosen to literally grow babies out of our wombs. Yes, you contribute with a «donation» but let’s face it, we’re doing 99.999 999% of the work. You need a million swimmers to get to our single egg. Really guys? That’s a little sad isn’t it?
2) Shelly did the burger challenge and that thing was as big as a baby. Plus they expected you to eat a pound of fries which I thought was crazy. Oh and none of the guys wanted to do it… so girls win! We are SUPERIOR!!!
I would have done the challenge myself but as I just had a baby, I think that gets me off the hook right?! I drank three martinis to make up for my lack of burger eating that evening so that should even out my karma.
Other than a wonderful burger eating spectacle, I also enjoyed Chris & Justin’s matching outfits (black collared shirt & jeans = Awkward, yet awesome), the kim chee fried rice (a little oily, but very flavorful) and the yummy house martinis made with guava juice.
Awesome seeing so many fab Unilocalers and can’t wait to do it again!

When Dorothy closed her eyes and clicked her shoes three times repeating, «there’s no place like home…» I’m PRETTY sure she was referring to this UYE!
Nothing better than another excuse to get into town on a weekday and drink away the hump Wednesday blues. Even better when you’re surrounded by good food, beautiful people, and close friends! Elite or not, this unofficial event felt pretty official in my book!
Lasting thoughts:
Women superiority? That’s a trap question!
Revenge of the Tater Tots? That’s a tempting diet trap!
Burger Challenge? That’s a deliciously looking death trap!

I love Unilocal events because they get me out to places I normally wouldn’t have noticed. Home Bar and Grill is on Kalakaua west of the Convention Center. Again, I never would have noticed it if not for the UYE. This place is awesome! I lucked out and got the last parking stall in the front lot, but I was told there is also a pay lot and valet behind the building. The interior is classic local bar scene, with black leather seating and gray carpet. Cooking Channel and ESPN were on the flat screens and the wait staff was super friendly and efficient (one guy even offered to buy me a drink or a shot for taking on the burger challenge).
The only downer was that I was unable to try all the yummy looking food because I was saving myself for the burger challenge (24 oz. of beef, 3 kinds of cheese, a fried egg, bacon, grilled onions, and sauteed mushrooms on a soft white bun with about a pound of fries). Tip for those of you wanting to try the challenge in the future: ask if you can wait for the burger to cool before they start the clock. I dug in right away and burnt the roof of my mouth.
Oh wait, there was another downer… no beers on tap. I dunno, but I kind of judge bars by their draft beers. The specialty drinks looked good enough to offset that though.

This almost seemed like an official Unilocal event, the turn out was great and the food was even better!
Thanks Emi for putting this together, hope to return to try a few more things off their menu.

Who’da thought you could get so creative with tater tots?! Napoleon Dynamite definitely needs to hit this place up. With the portions here, he would have been stuffing the leftovers in his pockets by the end of the night.

Official, Unofficial… Unilocal events are always awesome!
I’ve had the privilege of attending a couple of Unilocal elite events, but this was my first UYE. The turnout was astounding. By the looks of it, half the crowd at Home were Unilocalers. Unilocal certainly knows how to get down! The atmosphere was great and it was cool meeting some new people and catching up with the regulars. The yummy food was plentiful and the alcohol was flowing.
Great idea, great time!

To be honest, when I first saw the event, I clicked «Sounds Cool» cause I just can’t fit as much UYE’s into my school schedule like I could while I was on break. A few days before the UYE, on Valentines, I got to try out Home Bar and damn was this place’s food insane. I still felt like I was digesting the tater nachos 48 hours later.
Thanks to the encouragement of Esteban W. and Chad Y., I made it out to this event and was so pleasantly surprised at how huge the event turned out to be. This is a true testament to the growth of Unilocal Hawaii, from modest little 10 person gatherings to almost Elite Event Sized UYE’s. So nuts.
Everyone was on their grand and fabulous drunk behavior, as one should be at a place called Home Bar & Grill. I missed the burger challenge, but Emi had pics of the epic-​ness.
Seriously, best UYE yet.

Great Atmosphere, Good Food and a ton of Unilocalers equal a great time.

I haven’t seen tater tots make an appearance since elementary school, and they never looked or tasted like they did at HOME.
Thanks Emi for organizing this and getting me out and about after 5pm. That alone is 5 star-​worthy.
