Have been a fan of Toshi’s for many, many years! This place is a tiny little okazuya on N. King Street, just east of another one of my favorite hole in the walls, Palace Saimin. Parking. Just a few stalls directly outside, maybe 6 cars can park. You can see the food choices from the window, so you can look before you go in. My usual favorites is the chow funn, shoyu long rice, egg omelet, and the corned beef hash patty. The fish cake is delicious being made fresh too, and do is the baked and shoyu chicken. Pretty much everything here is good and you can’t go wrong. They make awesome choice sushi too! The people here are super nice and I think this place has been open for at least 30 years, but don’t quote me on that. But I do know that the food is very consistent, year after year, and I’ll be coming back for years to come!

Finally got to try this place… gotta say I went about 10:00 and still had a good selection. Everything I choose was very tasty and large portions. I mean the Teri hamburger patty was huge compared too many places that I have been. I will try again and go even earlier to see if there was stuff I missed. Also had their shoyu chicken, eggplant, and cone sushi… loved it… just how I like it.

The best Okazuya on Oahu. Food is always awesome and friendly mom and son operation. Check days and hours, I think they’re closed sat-mon.

Havent been here in a few years untill sometime last week. And the same sweet lady is still manning the front. I always make a bet with myself that if I’m the only one in line with business clothes on among the people standing in line, I will get 6 items lol It was so good to once again have the goodness of the teri burger patty wallop in my taste buds. Aside from the teri burger, I also enjoy the egg, shoyu chicken, chow fun, long rice and corned beef hash! I really love their chow fun as it is not much greasy as the chow fun you would find elsewhere. To mamasan in the front, I havent forgotten you. i still have all your rubber bands saved throughout the years. Wanted to know if you do gift wrapping for the holidays because your so quick and precise when you wrap up my plate.

Like every other hole in the wall eatery along N. King Street, there is minimal parking in the front, unless you park on the sidewalk, or park illegally at another establishment, and walk over. I always end up parking illegally and walking over… I have the absolute worst luck when it comes to getting good parking! Ugh! Try to get there early for the best selection of okazu! I’ve attempted to call in an order several times, and they NEVER pick up the phone! Granted, every single time I go there, I bring a huge line with me! This place is insanely busy!!! And for good reason… Lemme explain. Portions are HUGE, and VERY tasty! Their long rice… or «shoyu noodles» as the man BFF calls them are just long strands of heaven. They are seasoned, and cooked to perfection. I haven’t eaten a better tasting version. Other delish items are their egg omelette, fried & shoyu chicken, chow fun, cone sushi and teri hamburger. I’m so hungry just thinking about a plate from Toshi’s right now!!! I love how they’re totally«old school». They wrap your plates in butcher paper with a rubber band around it to secure it. And they have a pen on the counter for you to write a name, or whatever to identify each plate. The guy at the register even asked me if I wanted individual receipts for each plate in case I needed reimbursement for picking up lunch for everyone! I was shocked! That was so nice! He went above and beyond. I’ll definitely be back soon for more tasty okazu!!!

I’ve always seen Toshi’s when I worked in Kalihi, but by the time my shift started it was closed. So now that I am on a day shift, I am always on the lookout for great places to grind for breakfast. So today, I dropped by Toshi’s. There was ample parking in the front, but it’s pretty much illegal parking on the sidewalk. Be careful while backing up into N. King St. If you come early like at 5−6am there’s rarely any traffic. Upon entering it’s like a throwback. The old style Hawaii buildings that remind you of your little kid days. There are booths there that are probably older than me. The place is clean though, and all the food is set out on display like any other okazuya. The little old Japanese lady in the front is so cute. She’s polite and cheery and always says«Hai!» after every sentence. I got the chow fun, spam, hot dog and a corned beef hash patty. Everything was put on a styrafoam plate and wrapped in that old school butcher paper with rubber bands. I haven’t had one of these plates since I was on a field trip in elementary school! The taste was good and I like the old school simplicity of their food. I’d definitely come back if I am ever in the area for something to eat for breakfast.

A hole in the wall gem! Toshi’s is an original okazuya — something hard to find these days! Mama-san Toshi is there, so is her son, making this place a family run operation which has been in business for years. They are open from the wee hours of the morning(4:30am) till a little past lunchtime(12:30pm) serving you the tastiest Japanese and local dishes. My all time faves are TERIBEEFBURGER, MUSUBI, CORNEDBEEFHASH, FRIEDCHICKEN and NOODLES! The same nostalgic taste of your favorite okazuya from your childhood… YUMMY! There are a few tables to eat inside, but I usually order to go and eat on the run. They wrap your order up nicely so you don’t need to worry about a mess :)

Thanks Ed L. for reminding me that I had to write a review for Toshi’s after reading your Toyo Sushi review. Well Toshi’s is located on King St, across O’Sung Auto Body and the Kalihi Post Office. Parking is directly in front and it’s all about timing. get or no more. The food is Okazuya. Basically the same food items as other Okazuyas go. But… But. Yes BUT.The Fishcake, Shoyu Chicken and Fried Chicken is what I crave for!!. Fishcake is so simply made, but so Ono! Shoyu Chicken is how I wish mine came out when I cook! Fried Chicken. Now this not your typical fried chicken, it’s almost like a baked chicken with a charred skin. If you can’t picture yourself savoring the taste of this… then 7⁄11 is on the corner. lol! Toshi’s opens pretty early for those who want to pick up food before work. Old School Okazuya’s Rule…

In an effort be an active Unilocaler, I ventured into the inner workings of Kalihi just to see where some of these small business are. Thankfully, most restaurants are open during the day, so I don’t have to really worry about things happening to me. Toshi’s Delicatessen & Restaurant is located on North King Street and resembles a lot like Mitsu Ken and Mitsuba Delicatessen on North School Street. With random selections of comfort food at your disposal, what’s not more to love. The great part of this place, like how some delicatessens are, is that Toshi’s is open really über duber early from 4:45am, but only Tuesdays through Fridays. They are closed on the weekends and on Mondays. Basically this place is a breakfast and lunch hang out, but be fast though, since they close at 12:30pm, so if you take your lunch break late — like how I sometimes do, you’re out of luck and would need to search for another place stat to calm that hunger pain into submission. That’s alright when Honolulu has plenty of choices. But this review is about Toshi’s Delicatessen and I am glad that I got to come here on a Friday morning. What’s so perfect about Friday morning, is that you get to kick start the weekend with good food from a new place while Unilocaling about it! Other Unilocalers have said that this is the real deal place, when you want to get a good breakfast. Yes, I realize that when I had a breakfast platter with all the fixings and hate to think that I normally get up late and breeze through McDonald’s on Hotel Street or Liliha Street half ass on some days. I really need to get my ass up early and head to Toshi’s more often, just cause they make really good food! The only problem is that the parking can be quite difficult, if driving. But thankfully, when you phit the public transit, you’re pretty good about not having that kine of problem. This place is already becoming a favorite and I sure hope I can come here more often. I would definitely recommend getting musubi here, rather than 7-Eleven if you can help it. The prices are respectable and competitive, so it’s good to come here if you’ve never tried this place. The staff here are friendly and I had a pleasant experience. I wasn’t sure about the cash /credit card situation, since I jut blindly pulled out cash without really thinking about it. Maybe I should ask next time though. lol. But yeah, Toshi’s is one of those hidden gems that I would need to make it my regular place to visit on a work day when I need something more than my daily ritual. Buy local! B+

I’ve been eating here since I was a little kid. I used to order food from here for home lunch whenever I went on field trips as a little kid. They have the BEST shoyu chicken ever! If you are looking to try good shoyu chicken, you have to come here. Be sure to go early because they close early and run out of stuff fast. I love their chow fun and long rice also. Parking is a bit difficult. There’s only a few spots out front and it’s pretty dangerous backing out as cars are coming down King Street. I just wish they were open on Mondays also.

I stop by here on occasion when I’m on my way to work… It(along with Nuuanu Delicatessen) are by far my favorite Okazu places… This morning, I had a plate of chow fun, a BBQ Hamburger patty, a musubi, 1 corned beef hash patty and 1 tamagoyaki… i LOVE their Tamagoyaki it is sweet and just right! My entire meal came up to about $ 7. Not bad since the food I got lasted me until lunch. :) I would come here more often, but sometimes parking is a hassle. But for the last few times I’ve been going there, parking was available. I’m definitely coming here again.

I love this place. I don’t know why people don’t write reviews about this place. The portions of the food is bigger than other places. This place is only open from Tuesday — Friday. They start serving early in the morning… about 4:45am until they sell out. What I like from here: Chow Fun Long Rice Mahi Mahi Hot Dog Spam Cone Sushi Mac Salad Fried Chicken Tofu Ahi Saba Egg Hamburger Shoyu chicken Corned beef hash
