The Key Guy Locksmith

Their website specifically states that they are one of the only people on the island who can do alarm remotes, key fobs, etc for autos. But when you call one of the many numbers, a rude guy answers the phone, is very short with one word answers and just seems like hes unhappy and doesnt want to be bothered. So first, horrible customer service. When I cant help someone at work, I actually take the time to give them info that can help them, imagine that. Second, if youre going to be rude when someone calls then you should update your website to correctly show what you can and cant do.

Told me one thing in the phone and ripped me off when they got there. I had them change the knob lock and deadbolt on my security screen door and add a deadbolt to my wooden front door. Charged me $ 400 and I had already got the locks at Home Depot. Don’t to business with these scammers. What can you do once these creeps are inside your home asking for $ 400?

Found out The key guy company has a new ownership which does provide the proper service as the previous owners did.
They are a total ripoff and the guy in the office is rude and will hang up on you. Website is total BS. Cannot perform all functions listed on their website.
They do not have a current license registered in DCCA, no where as registered in the BBB.

I would use negative stars if I could. SCAMERS… We used Guy in the past all the time so we did not check Unilocal.Wish now we did. We were quoted $ 195.OO for laser car key and $ 45.00 for service call. They were 2 hours late and a guy showed up in private vehicle who was from Israel. Long story short total cost was $ 480.00. I have reported it to khon2 news because they should not get away with scamming people. These are the same people at the malls that have a kiosk and sell the curling irons and skin care. Do not waste your time.

I normally don’t write reviews but this was such a horrible experience that I feel the need to. My daughter locked the bedroom door to a vacation rental however the property manager didn’t have a key so I had to call a locksmith. Unfortunately I didn’t do enough research prior to calling as I was in a panic to open the door. But all the negative reviews are true! When I called he quoted a 50 min arrival time and $ 105. He arrived after 90 minutes and after he opens the door tells us it was $ 229. $ 60 travel charge and $ 149 for picking the lock! He said the lock was «complicated» mind you it is a bedroom door and took him 10 minutes. The guy leaves and I realize he still overcharged me since the total was $ 209. I call him back no answer but after several tries he answers and tells me the difference was because of the tax. This guys is a joke but he came back and returned $ 11. The receipt he gave doesn’t even have a legitimate business name on it and not registered with the dcca. This is a total scam and in retrospect I should’ve asked for a quote prior to him doing the work and telling him no thanks but I’ll find another guy. Total scam!

SCAM! Don’t use this company! They totally scammed us! The guy told us it was going to cost $ 65 for the service and $ 50 to drive out to us in turtle bay. He came, unlocked the door and charged us $ 230! We asked him why the price was so high and he said it was tax and tip. Umm last I checked tip was optional… And tax was only .05%… Don’t ever use this company!

I got my own blank fob and the guy came out, cut the key, re-​programed and done! Less than 30 mins and cost around 60% less than going through the dealership. He was super cool to talk with and did an excellent job. If I ever need any of my other car or house keys made, will definitely call again. Probably one of the only mobile key cutting places that will cut your own purchased key fobs.

Their website claims that they do «punched lock repair». I have called and spoken with two different locksmiths that work for them and they both tell me absolutely not, that I have to go to a dealer. Why does your website say you will do it if you will not?

do not use this company! they are scams, called to get a duplicate key, they gave no quote over the phone and when the person, so called «shawn» got to us, he quoted $ 280, just to make the key!!! we automatically a said no and then tried to charge us $ 39.99 for service fee that never happened!!! my husband attempted to call the cops and this guy got in his car and left!!! he also said that his price is the lowest on the island, and lower than the dealerships, we went to toyota and got another key for $ 19!!! don’t put up with these scammers!!! the male is caucasian, with a foreign accent, he drives a ford fusion suv, horrible company with 2 websites!!!

A SCAM! A RIP OFF!!! I got myself locked out of my condo and searched for a locksmith nearby. Called them and got a quote for $ 29.95. The guy arrived 30 mins later since he said he was coming from town. When he arrived he asked if we own or rent and if we have identification to show we lived here. Funny he asked if we own or rent? I guess that’s a deciding factor of how much to charge? We’ve been locked out of our house before and this old guy we found charged us only $ 50 FLATRATE on a Saturday afternoon and only took him less than a minute. This guy was struggling to pick the lock open and finally had to use an air pump wedge with some plier. He even chipped the side of our door. He told us it was going to be $ 149.99. We were like are you kidding me? We thought it was $ 29.99 and he said $ 29.99 is just the service call. Out bill came out to $ 149.99+$ 29.99. Do not ever call these guy. Consumer Fraud Alert. These are scammers that are trained in one specific trade. And that is Destruction — price gauging– decievment– There advertising says lockouts for $ 29.00 but that’s Fraud then they say that’s Hawaii State Law (BS no such Law) Consumers must refuse to pay after they destroy door & frame or whatever they touch. Ask for a flat rate price b4 they touch your door! And ask them to leave if they don’t provide you w a quote flat rate prior to coming or else these scammers will fight you!!! Beware

Absolutely horrible! When I called to see how much they would charge to remove my club wheel lock off my car, they said «up to $ 100 depending on the difficulty of the lock.» That seemed like a reasonable price so after an hour of waiting some guy comes and first drills into the lock which I knew would do nothing then says that he’d have to cut it off. Obviously. Finally after he cuts it off he says «service charge and after taxes it’ll be $ 200.» Are you kidding me?.. Do not call these guys, its not worth it.

This company is absolutely terrible. They overcharge and are not professional at all. Spare yourself and go somewhere else.

This was a HORRIBLE experience. They are unprofessional, inept, and cite laws that simply do not exist.
I called them this morning because I locked myself out of my condo. I had just done this two months ago (I know, time to make an extra key!) so I knew the drill. I called this place because they were in Waikiki and I was hoping they could get to my place relatively faster than other Locksmiths. When I called, he told me it would be 15 – 20 minutes and a $ 29.99 service charge. I thought I had lucked out; fast and cheap!
After, more than 30 minutes I called back. They guy on the phone said something about how he can’t control traffic. I reminded him that I am no more than 10 minutes from his Waikiki «office» and there is no traffic between these points. He mumbled something illegible. I told him 30 minutes is fine, but he should be up front with people. So, the «locksmith» arrived about 35 minutes after my initial call. (I don’t know which guy came; he was relatively young with long, brown dreads.)
I showed him to my door and immediately asked him (again) how much it would be. He mumbled something about needing to examine the lock and asked me to write down my contact information. I did as asked and again asked him the cost and he said $ 29.99 service fee that they are required to charge by law (oh yeah? What law is that?) PLUS $ 160. I was pissed at that point. I told him I was not paying $ 200 to get my door unlocked and that I had just had this done 2 months ago for $ 75. I left to go call another locksmith (I had no phone on me, I had to go find my neighbor again) and he started running behind me yelling, «Why are you running away?!? That is so rude!» I told him I was going to call another locksmith, as I had stated, because I would not pay $ 200. He told me I would still have to pay the $ 29.99 service charge (remember? the one required by law). It was laughable at that point considering I had no wallet or money on me (I had locked myself out taking the dog out). He said he would call his boss and see what they could do. A few moments later, he said he would do it for $ 75 and continued to tell me how rude I am, instead of opening my door. I told him I wouldn’t pay $ 200, if he could do it for $ 75 then to go do it. (Like, can we stop talking about it??? You were 20 minutes late, open my dang door!)
Being as I just experienced this 2 months ago, I knew what to expect. Instead of using the proper tools to manipulate the mechanisms IN THE LOCK, he used (what I can only describe as) air bladders to try and wedge space between my door and the frame. After 15 minutes of him continually saying «this door is so tight… they’re not usually so tight…» I told him the last guy used a mechanism to pump air into the lock (that was my understanding of the process, probably not proper lingo), until the mechanism released in about 2 minutes. He incredulously said «oh you think this is the first time I’ve done this??? Like this is my first day on the job???» I reminded him that I had just had this done 2 months ago. This «locksmith» said the only way he could get in would be to drill my door lock. I asked him if it would damage my door and he (instead of telling me upfront, he waited for me to ask and) said yes. I told him to leave and that I would call another locksmith. He left in a big huff, still mumbling about how rude I was.
Luckily, I called Affordable Locksmith & Sons (this was actually who had opened my door 2 months ago, but I didn’t realize it until he showed up) at 943.1425. I started to tell him what had happened and he already knew the story, «they said it would be $ 29.99 then tried to charge you a bunch more? Did they damage your door?» Clearly these clowns have been around the block, screwing up people’s doors.
I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and would encourage you to call Affordable Locksmith & Sons at (808) 943.1425, instead of these jokers. Affordable Locksmith & Sons, told me it would take 30 – 45 minutes to get to my house. They were here and done within 40 minutes and charged me $ 75 (plus gave me $ 5 off once we realized I had used them before!!!)

Any company that cites laws that do not exist to justify their exorbitant prices are SCAM ARTISTS.

I lost my truck key and discovered my spare is a service key — no electronic chip — it would only open the door, not start the pickup. I called the Key Guy and the dispatcher quoted a price plus labor. The estimate came in lower than I expected. Dean arrived and as others have noted his truck doesn’t say «Key Guy» anywhere. Dean is a registered locksmith and was able to make a chip key from scratch using the vehicle VIN. I was impressed. Before he started I asked him for the cost and was floored by a much higher number than I expected. I complained and Dean called back to the Key Guy and they offered a moderate discount due to the «misunderstanding».
Dean did a great job. He was courteous, professional and works as a contractor for the Key Guy. The dispatcher did not do Dean or me any favors by quoting a price plus labor. Given the time to make the key plus travel time labor is going to be the bigger part of the bill. By giving me a low price expectation the Key Guy set me up for disappointment and forced their contractor to handle my irritation. In the end I’m very satisfied with the quality of the work and am OK with the price. Dean gets 5 stars, because of the price games the Key Guy gets 3. I would call them again. Remember to get a quote from the locksmith before they start working.

Other reviews talk about how «Guy» is awesome, but «guy» didnt come to my house. Some Israeli kid did, and his car had a magnetic decal on that did not in any way affiliate him with this business, he seemed to be an independent contractor.
Did about 15 min of work, and then scribbled out an illegible bill that was over 450 $. He tried to charge almost 100 $ for drilling out a lock that we told him did not need to be drilled out as we could open the mailbox from the other side. But he insisted on using a crowbar and bent the hell out of the mailbox.
His estimate was less than half of what he tried to charge us for. Rekeying a lock and changing a box key should NOT cost nearly 500 $! Not to mention he broke the mailbox and bent it so it does not close properly now and the «brand new» lock mechanism he installed wasnt even screwed in and was coming apart before he even left. A complete ripoff, I would advise against using these guys if they keep using shitty employees.

Guy is my hero!!! Somehow in my shopping frenzy I lost my key while at Pearlridge. In a panic, I called GEICO who worked feverishly to find someone who could come out and save a damsel in distress. After multiple phone calls to many locksmiths on the island they told me that someone could be out… TOMORROW. Um last I checked Pearlridge does not have a hotel and I am not sure the feral cats would appreciate some strange lady encroaching on the their territory so that was just unacceptable. Then they found Guy… cue the angel music. Guy was able to come and «save» me within 45 minutes. He opened my door for me and then presented multiple options in regard to cutting a new key. He was not a salesman and it was evident he was not there to simply make money. I really appreciated that he did not take advantage of a woman in a panic. He easily could have and he didn’t and I really respect that.
If you need a locksmith Guy is your guy. I would honestly not call anyone else!
