The Big Surf

The reason why we booked this place was because of the 3 bathroom to 3 bedroom ratio. A bunch of fancy queens were going on this trip and we didn’t want to spend loads of money but wanted to in or near Waikiki. Granted the rooms were small and the furniture was outdated, but there was a/​c, three separate rooms, and a bathroom in each of the rooms. There was Netflix in the smart tv and there was even a snorkel and wake boards available for use. The location to everything was great! Very convenient and lots cheaper than the Hawaii prince across the road. I wouldn’t book again if it were my bf and I, but would consider again if there were 6 people in my party.

This was the most awful place I’ve ever seen. We left after looking at the room for one minute and had to find another place to stay. The light in the room didn’t work, there were spitballs on the ceiling, soap bars holding the ceiling fan up, no phone in the room, a very rude person at the front desk, the list goes on and on.
The rooms are tiny and had twin beds! I didn’t even know hotels had twin beds, and that’s not very friendly for a married couple. This appears to be a place where people live, if you can imagine the kind of people that «live» in a «hotel». The elevator is dangerous and will close quickly on you and the door doesn’t automatically open if you are in the way.
There is a security door that you have to go through to get to the elevator and the people that live/​stay there don’t make me feel very safe. Stay away, there are much better hotels, even «budget» hotels in Waikiki.

Coming from the hotel industry I have to give this place a 2 star. The place is in a really good location. However, the place is just out-​dated. The AC’s are old systems that stick out of windows that makes this unbearable noise… which no way in hell I would be able to fall asleep to without help from my friend Jameson. No water pressure, no hot water at times (cold showers all day), and the toilet had no water (wasn’t filling up the tank… had to wiggle the master switch In order to get water going)…when the toilet was full it started to make a whistling sound! Horrible! This would have been a 1-​star review but I gave them the 2-​stars for their location.

I must agree with Ronnie C., it is a great place, with great service, and has a great location! It is still in Waikiki, but is in a quiet area without drunks and not as many homeless people. The outside of the building may look like a turn off, but the rooms are really nice!
It’s a little pricy, but where isn’t in Waikiki? Also, the Resident Manager is a fantastic woman, friendly, and willing to accommodate you in any way she can.

I really like this place. It’s at the Ala Moana end of Waikiki, so it’s much quieter. It’s also a walk across the bridge to the huge Ala Moana shopping center. You get fantastic views of the harbor from this place too.
I’ve seen some negative reviews on a couple other websites but to me they sound like snobby tourists. This is one of the last hotels that is family owned! That’s what Hawaii is all about. Everything else has turned to corporate. Big name hotels and other tourism make these beautiful islands dependent on their money when local family owned businesses should really reign.
This place is great if you don’t want to spend too much, it’s in a great location, and the front desk people are sweet. They have this cute lanai in the front and you get so much cool refreshing breezes in the hallways. It deserves 5 stars for its location. In Waikiki you will spend mucho money, but being right next to Ala Moana lets you stroll over and buy things and food at way cheaper.
