Excellent hole in the wall neighborhood restaurant with the best Chinese food I’ve had in Honolulu. Well worth the easy drive from Waikiki

Love to eat here! Good food especially their steamed fish, char siu and honey walnut shrimp. My son from the big island of Hawaii loved all the different foods we had and said that’s the first Chinese restaurant that all the food tasted so good. He wants to eat every time he comes to Oahu now. Mahalo to the friendly waitresses and owners of Tasty’s!!!

Great family style food, extremely tasty with fast service. The name says it all. On site parking. Well worth the side trip off the tourist path. This is a hidden jem that locals know well.

I walked in for dinner, just wanting some simple Chinese and had a decent meal. The price was great! I got a dinner special with fried rice, chop suey, some kind of chicken and beef and brocoli, they also searved a black tea. The meal came with a tempura fried shrimp and some fried wontons. Everything tasted good, but I wouldn’t quite rate it as great. However, considering I got enough for 2 meals, it was an excellent value for the price!

Service is good. This is one of our go to places when I’m too lazy to cook. My favorites are the cold ginger chicken and flounder with shoyu ginger sauce.

Good choice for a last minute decision. Food is good, not bad. Although the place might need some renovation to boost customer traffic.

This place always hits the spot. The ladies are always friendly & the food always comes out quick. Ive never been there & had to wait for a table. Its also very good for take-out as well. The crispy shrimp & scallop soup are my favorites! Also the char siu fried rice is really good too. I can always count on Tasty.

Cold ginger chicken is the best I’ve tasted! This is my favorite! After years of not visiting a Chinese restaurant(had a horrible experience at another Chinese restaurant years ago) I finally went to Tasty. Yes, it’s still tasty! =) we used to frequent this restaurant when I was a child, moved away & now rediscovered it, and so glad we did! My son really loved the lemon chicken, hubby loved the char siu fried rice & we all loved the crispy gau gee! We’ll be back!

Their Lunch plate is the best: Char Siu Fried Rice, Noodles, Sweet & Sour Spareribs, Mongolian Beef, Crispy Gaugee. Or get their chinese chicken salad with $ 2 worth of extra won ton chips.

Five stars. Like my tip said, «Good, ono Chinese food in the heart of Kalihi!» Yep, Tasty is really a treat. I enjoy the rustic setting, sort of a old school restaurant that serves well made food. The honey walnut shrimp is excellent and the roast duck is always a winner. Dining solo? Try the dinner special plate. Wonderful!

HONEYWALNUTSHRIMP. That’s what you NEED to order when looking for Chinese food in Kalihi. First off, they have been in business for who knows how long… all I know that they were in business for a long long time. And I do have to admit that before… their food was just like any other but now I feel that they have improved. Location: They are located on School Street adjacent to Fastop. There are other Chinese restaurants in the area, but I feel that this place has taken the top seat for Chinese food. Customer Service: For me, I have experienced good customer service. I guess nothing different from any other Chinese restaurant. Wait… I take that back. They have better customer service compared to other Chinese restaurants in Kalihi. The woman that always helps me(female, about mid 40s-early 50s, short hair, with glasses) she is always nice to me. She even give me free sweet and sour sauce… sometimes. I always order take out so I do not know how their dine-in customer service differs. Food: When I crave Chinese food… not fast food Panda Express Chinese food, but Chinese food from the restaurant. I want HONEYWALNUTSHRIMP. The first time I had it was at another Chinese restaurant in Kalihi not too far from Tasty Chop Suey but, when I tried Tasty’s version… I was sold! Their Honey walnut shrimp is fresh, crispy, with taste of honey and the shrimp is huge. The rest of the other food items are mediocre but, the honey walnut shrimp is a must order.

I think I’m being very kind by giving this review 3 stars, but I’m trying to remain neutral at this point as I don’t think it was a terrible experience. But, yet, it wasn’t a fantastic meal either. PARKING: There is a small lot available for customers. I met my family for dinner on a Wednesday night and the lot wasn’t overly crowded at all. However, with this in mind I might assume parking may be less unavailable during weekends or Friday nights. I also did notice many people picking up take out that night as well. The restaurant is a decent size compromised mostly of the standard 10-seat circular tables, with some booths to accommodate smaller parties. FOOD: My uncle must have ordered in advance when he made the reservation because the food was served as soon as everyone was present. Our meal included white rice, fried rice, lemon chicken, eggplant, roast duck, noodles, and cold ginger chicken. The food was ok. Really it was just that… ok. However, if I had to choose a favorite(s), it would have to be the cold ginger chicken. THAT was good, two thumbs up. The lemon chicken is a close second, but I thought that the way my mom described this dish as «chicken katsu with lemon sauce over it» was practically spot on. In any case, I suppose I should also mention that the fried rice was also a winner in my humble opinion. SERVICE: It could be better. We made repeated requests for chopsticks, extra plates, and napkins throughout our meal, and though the staff did comply, it just seemed like we were bothering them when we had asked for these things. Bottom Line: I wouldn’t return here on my own, but if we have another family dinner I will definitely attend… as long as we order the cold ginger chicken

Got the lunch special with fried rice. Came with fried rice, chop suey, pot roast, sweet & sour spare ribs, won ton and a tiny shrimp tempura. The food cam out fast. The Sweet & sour and pork roast tasted heated up(it was cold!) and not ‘made to order’. The staff if really nice, same people I remember from when I was young. Parking either can be a nightmare or a breeze, it really depends on what time and time you go.

Did a takeout for my first dinner. Yes, I had two dinners this night. I picked up for my uncle and I. He had the special lunch plate with steamed rice and I had the special dinner plate. Both are on the menu on one of the photos on here. My family has been doing take out orders from here for many years because they’re literally a minute away from my grandparents house. Don’t remember the food too well though. So, I’ll be starting new starting from now. My uncle’s lunch plate had pot roast pork, sweet sour spareribs, plain fried shrimp, crispy won ton, pork chop suey chow mein, and white steamed rice. Didn’t get to try his plate although my plate had some of the same stuff. Taste: My dinner plate had cold ginger chicken, beef and vegetables, plain fried shrimp, crispy won ton, pork chop suey chow mein, and char siu fried rice. Everything was decent except for the plain fried shrimp and crispy won ton. Those were pretty disappointing. The fried shrimp had a small shrimp and was mostly breading. The crispy won ton was the same, there was a small piece of beef with mostly the fried won ton wrapper. Other than that everything was like your typical Chinese restaurant food. Nothing special. Atmosphere: Although I did take out, I got to look at the inside of the dining area. Place was no the cleanest but was decorated with pictures, red lanterns hanging from the ceiling, and a handful of round tables. The place was empty with several people doing take out orders. Service: Two ladies that were serving in the front. They were nice and my order came out in a timely manner. Final Comments: Will definitely come her again to try other stuff. Overall Rating: «AVERAGE» Typical Chinese food at a typical Chinese restaurant.
