Business Owner

Hi! My name is Pamela Lee, Owner and Head Director here at Sylvan Kahala. I have had extensive experiences in pre-​school and elementary teaching in California as well as teaching at the elementary and secondary levels at an international school in Seoul, Korea. Prior to moving to Honolulu, I started and opened a pre-​school for a number of years in Seoul. I hold credentials in Multiple Subject Teaching and Educational Administration as well as holding a BA and MA in Liberal Arts and Educational Administration.

I have one amazing daughter who will be attending Punahou in the fall of 2013 as an 8th grader. I enjoy working out and traveling the world over.

Don’t wait! If your child is struggling, get them tutoring with Sylvan asap! We just started this week. So far 3 sessions at 2 hours per session.
Signing my daughter up for study help/​tutoring for Geometry and Chemistry was a great decision and worth the money. She needed help catching up on lessons as her grades were slipping and the semester finals are coming up next week.
From going to Sylvan Learning Center just this week, my daughter feels more confident and after just one hour of help with Chemistry, my daughter said the person that helped her explained the «steps» and it all made sense to her suddenly. She wishes she got help a month ago.
Scheduling has been pretty easy. The hourly rate gets cheaper the more hours you go per week. There was no contract, pay as you go. You need to reserve the right tutor, depending on the subject, so call in advance.

Having to do a proctored exam brought me here. Parking is easy, plentiful. Second floor access doable with nearby elevator. Staff very accommodating and helpful. A bit put off by the noise level of their daily keiki but it didn’t bother me much.

Both my children (ages 15 and 14) have been going to Sylvan Kahala for over a year now and there has been a marked improvement in their grades. In addition to the improvement in their scores at school, the result I am most impressed and satisfied with is the consistency in their efforts and comprehension. Sylvan has filled a void in their learning process between work at school and homework. Sylvan has helped to reinforce concepts that are learned in school when they are fresh in the student’s memory. In addition, the study skills and disciplines taught at Sylvan have helped my kids learn more efficiently and make the most of the their valuable time as they try to juggle all the academic demands of school along with all the other demands on their time.
I’m looking forward to utilizing Sylvan’s help in preparing the kids for their PSATs and SATs. I think the cost/​benefit of sending them to Sylvan versus the other programs I’ve seen and heard about it pretty compelling. Thanks Team Sylvan! Keep up the good work!

I came to Sylvan when I was in middle school all the way to my Junior year of High School. When I was in my younger years, I was terrible at reading comprehension and vocabulary. Sylvan has programs that cater to the students’ needs, and aim to help them with their weaknesses. Programs that are available range from reading and math to test prep (SAT, ACT). Sylvan helped me to gain the skills I needed to succeed in high school and even skills that I use today in college. My reading and writing skills have come a long way since then and I’ve been on the dean’s list every semester since the beginning of my freshman year. I really enjoyed my time at Sylvan due to the personalization that they offer. The tutors make sure that the students are understanding what they are learning and take the extra effort and time needed to make sure that they do just so. I recommend Sylvan to parents who want to see their students succeed and students who want to feel good about their grades in school.

I went to Sylvan when i was in high school and they helped me a lot with my homework. Most of the tutors are friendly and will get to know you if you become a regular and they help encourage you to do better. The only thing they couldn’t help me with at the time was AP physics, but they tried their best to help me as much as they could. The directors at Sylvan are very helpful, and are open to help you with any school work you have.

I went here while I was growing up. JOE is the best. He’s good at what he does and he brings out the best in you. I haven’t gone to that place for over 10 years, but I can still walk in and JOE remembers me!
