Surf Lessons Waikiki

My family and I took surfing lessons with Al while on our trip in Hawaii and I am very happy we did.
He provided everything you needed such as rash guards, surf boards and water shoes. vHe also knows when and where the best beginner waves are which were seven in the morning to nine. Even though it was a little early, it was worth. Surfing in the morning is definitely better because the beach is practically empty and the waves are pretty calm.
We had such a fantastic time that we came back a second time and invited our friends to join. His lessons really helped because he would give you tips and tricks to finding the right wave and how to ride a good wave. We first started off on land as he taught us the basics of surfing such as paddling and standing. Then he took us into the water and began to help everyone find the right wave. Almost everyone during our lesson got up!
Our family had such a great time surfing with Al. It was a great experience and I would definitely go again. I would not hesitate to call him if you are every in Waikiki. He is a great instructor!

My sister and I took beginner surfing lessons with Al on a whim while on vacation in Honolulu and we’re so glad we did!
I appreciate that Al was available on very short notice. I called him the night my family and I landed in Honolulu and he was able to squeeze us in for a early morning lesson (7am to 9am) the very next day. I would definetely recommend scheduling your lesson for the morning when the beach is empty and the waves are more calm.
Al is a fantastic teacher! He’s incredibly knowledgeable, funny, warm and patient. He did a fantastic job quelling our nerves as this was our first time ever getting on a surfboard. We started off on land learning the basics of paddling, getting up on the board and positioning. Positioning is super important in surfing which Al emphasized heavily and helped us to readjust as we practiced catching waves. Afterwards, he took us into the water where the fun began! I was so surprised that I was able to get up on board and actually surf for several seconds on my first try. I also ate it a few times but not too painfully!
I was very tired by the end of the lesson as I’m terribly out of shape but it was a very rewarding and memorable experience. I can’t wait to go surfing again!
My sister and I had a blast learning to surf from our wonderful instructor, Al! Hit him up if you’re in Waikiki! I definitely won’t hesitate to call Al if I’m ever in town.

Rental included everything from rashguards to comedy. No regrets and would totally take another lesson from him. He taught me (the complete beginner) the proper way to get balanced on the board and how to find a good wave. He taught my husband (second timer) how to gain speed and ride the wave a little longer. Honestly we are so glad we had the opportunity to learn from al. Totally worth the $ and time. We had such a good time and gained confidence to try surfing in CA. Al is really great!

The instructor was helpful in getting me a date set up for my lesson. They told me exactly what to bring and how to get my lesson for $ 35 by checking in with Unilocal.My brother also took the class before me, and since he loved it so much, he recommended it to me. I am a first time rider and still had a blast!

Was my first time ever trying surfing, so didn’t know what to expect, but they had me up and riding waves right away. They use big 10″+ long boards that make it easier to balance and let you have fun right away even if you never surfed before.
I had a blast with the experience, and so right after the lesson I purchased my own board so I can go surfing by myself when I have time.

Al is an amazing teacher. He got the world’s most uncoordinated person (example: I fell repeatedly while trying to standup paddleboard in virtually calm waters before) up on a board during the first lesson! He’s very knowledgable, great at explaining what he wants you to do (thoroughly goes over it before taking you out), and patient. He helps you get started and even once he’s let go, is yelling instructions as you go. He knows the best places/​times to go for conditions, but also to avoid the crowds (important if you’re a noob and terrified of having to navigate around people). We were just finishing up when the beach started getting crowded.

Al got this 60 year old up on a board, riding a few waves twice now. I can’t wait to go again!
A group of us social service peeps went out; once by the zoo, and this time by Ala Moana. Al set us up with good days, at good times for waves for beginners and minimal wind. He customizes everything, from which board to have you on to the coaching he gives out in the water – always tailored to your experience level.
I can’t wait to go again! Lucky we live Hawaii! Al – expect a call soon. :)

If you’re a first time surfer or semi-​experienced one, Al is the man to call! I came in with no experience and dragged along a group of friends. Al took care of us the entire lesson. He’s an attentive instructor who has both experience and knowledge of the water and local surf scene. Most importantly, we stood up at the end of our lesson! I’ve gone back a few times with friends. Thanks to Al, I gained enough confidence to surf on my own in Bali — still baby waves but at least I’m going!

If I could give more stars I absolutely would! I took my very first surf lesson with Al when I came here on vacation a few years ago. Now I live here and have been dying to learn more. I called Al and he took me for an advanced surf lesson right away! His beginner lesson I took before prepared me for another beach, bigger breaks, and faster waves! I had so much fun and am definitely going to keep going back. I have a lot more to learn but I can’t believe how fast he’s helped me advance already! Super professional, super helpful, and super fun! I highly recommend this company both for tourists traveling through and folks that live here and want to learn or get better!

Albert was so awesome! My mom and I had a lesson together with varying skill levels and Al made sure to give us individual feedback during a group lesson, assigning us different tasks and things to focus on. He was very thorough, warming us up and making sure we knew the motions by heart before going out. We were there on a windy weekday and met in the morning and had the beach practically to ourselves! Al is extremely knowledgable and really passionate about the sport; you can tell he teaches because he loves it, not for the money. He answered all of my questions about surfboards and progressing for the future and gave tons of detail. 110% recommend him to anyone who wants to learn surfing, especially those who feel uncomfortable in the water — he’s a really reassuring presence. He really believes in you and teaches you as a person which makes it easy to excel and a pleasure to learn.

For all levels, surfing with Al is a blast. He is incredibly patient and knowledgable, and immediately puts everyone at ease in the water. I have taken a couple group lessons with Al and am amazed how he can customize the lesson to fit each student’s expertise. He is great with first timers, and usually everyone is standing on their first try! He picks the prime spots and prime time, so you consistently get good waves without the crowd and for a great price. I definitely recommend this surf school!

I’m a first time surfer and Al got me up and riding the waves on my first lesson! He is the bestest teacher with a great love for surfing AND a genuine interest in helping you learn the ways of the ocean. Al is a big part of the surfing community and has blazed the trail for surfing here. His teaching style is very thorough and easy-​to-​follow and he tailors the lesson to you and your progress. He also knows the best times and conditions so always listen to him when he tells you where/​when to show up!
I’ve had a few lessons with him since my first time and I’m totally hooked. I have surfed with 0 – 2 other students max each time! Each time has been awesome and I’m totally hooked! This is an unbeatable experience at an unbelievable price. Contact him early in the week to have the best choice of days.

We were running an hour late due to morning traffic and Al offered to pick us up and then he also dropped us off from the lesson. After the lesson he then took us to huli chicken afterward and gave us a small tour of the city. His lessons were on point and we all got up on the board the first day. I then took more lessons from Al and I got a big wave and rode it in. I highly recommend Al and his services.

My first lesson with Al, I was excited to learn to surf, it has been one of my dreams, but I was also very nervous. I work as an Urgent care physician on Oahu and see surf injuries all the time. Al takes the perfect amount of time on land to instruct and teach the wisdom he has gained being a local boy from Oahu and shares these pearls with his lucky students. After a few lessons I am now confidently surfing on bigger waves. The lessons are individualized for each student based on their skills. He also throws in some good advice on things to do on the Island! I enjoyed his classes so much that I brought a friend who swore «she would never surf again» after a bad experience on Oahu. After her first lesson she not only was she happy, she took two more! Living in Waikiki I watch the other instructors take students out, they flop around in the waves and struggle. I’m glad I chose these lessons! Btw the price is unbelievable, everything included, just bring a towel, sunscreen, and water. Oh and long yoga pants or board shorts!

Al is the man! He took three of us out at the same time we were all at different levels and he knew how to choose waves for us perfectly. He made sure we were all safe and we all had a good time. He spent time with us before hand and showed us what to do in different situations. As far as I know it’s the best price on the island. Within one hour we all were up and surfing.

I took my first lesson at Waikiki and my advanced surf lesson was in Honolulu! It was the best experience of my life! I’ve taken many lessons with other teachers before but Al is the greatest! Take lessons from him and you will become an amazing surfer in no time!

I took my advanced surf lesson with Al the other day at Ala Moana in Honolulu. Progression with Al is always 100 times greater than when I had been out on my own. He gave me great tips and things to work on. My first lesson was in Waikiki with a group of friends and he gave us personalized instruction and got us hooked on surfing. This time I took a private lesson and he was so thorough and helpful. He really works with you where you are and wants to see you do better. Super fun and affordable :), best surf lessons on Oahu hands down!

LOVED our surf lesson! We were 5 beginners and we all got up on our first try after the careful instruction by our instructor Al. He was very attentive to individual needs and gave us all tips on how to improve our stance. GREAT EXPERIENCE !!!

Al was an absolutely phenomenal instructor. I had no prior experience, but with Al’s help, I was able to stand up for my first wave. He was thorough and patient, and I would recommend him to anyone.

Amazing experience! I went on a first time surfing lesson with 3 friends. Al went over all the techniques for paddling out and surfing on land before we got in the water. Once out, he got us up and surfing right away. He would push us with the waves to help us stand up and yell out instructions as we caught the surf. All of us got up on the first try!
Al took us out in the early morning so we could beat the crowds. We had a perfect surfing spot all to ourselves.
Overall, I would highly recommend taking lessons from Al!

This place offers the Best surfing lesson with one of the most attractive costs in Waikiki. It costs ONLY $ 35 FOR 2 HOURS! I really enjoyed the class. I must definitely go back and learn again. AL was good enough to let us enjoy the basics of surfing. Don’t hesitate to try it! You ware in Hawaii! You should do surfing! :)

100 000 000% the ONLY place I would ever consider taking a surf lesson at– and I’m *from* Hawai’i. I tell anyone I know who visits Hawai’i to only go to Al! And I tell my friends who live on Oahu who don’t know how to surf to only go to Al. It doesn’t get any better than this, and Al is among my favorite people ever.

I recently visited Oahu and met up with Jenny of Waikiki Surf Lessons! She was amazing! Although I am a beginner to intermediate surfer and didn’t need lessons per say, Jenny took me out to several spots off Waikiki, showed me the «sweet take off spots,» pushed me into waves, and introduced me to the locals. And trust me, Jenny knows everyone! She is the Godmother of Waikiki Beach! What I love most about Jenny is how she embodies the true Aloha spirit. She was kind to everyone out in the water from beginners to locals. I even watched in amazement as she offered tips to other instructors’ students. She is a fabulous surfer herself. Grace on the water. If you go to Oahu, do not take to the water without Jenny!

I called on short notice and asked Jenny for a surf lesson the following day. She wasn’t able to do it (probably because she had other lessons happening) but recommended someone else and told me everything I needed to know about how to meet the other instructor. She was very friendly and took her time answering all of my questions. Anyone who gets her as an instructor will be very lucky. It’s too bad I don’t have time to wait another day :(

Jenny you are fantastic! this was so much fun and wow sooo tiring… I have a new respect for surfers. Jenny has been doing this for a while and it was lovely to meet so many of her friends on the beach. My husband, daughter and myself had a two hour lesson with Jenny while on holiday after a recommendation from a friend and it was so good ok I was a chicken and did not stand but I did perfect the knee position a style of which I am very proud .the other two did stand, oh well I’ll perfect it next time… and believe me there will definately be a next time… as Brett says you can tell Jenny does this because she loves it .she was so encouraging and a delight to be around.

What an awesome surf experience! This was our first time surfing, and we stumbled upon Jenny on Unilocal and thought we’d give her a call. The best decision EVER! She has been doing this for 17 years in Waikiki alone. She knows everybody on the beach, was a great teacher, and was super encouraging. We weren’t really prepared for just how much work it was with all that paddling! She also made sure we got some great pictures. You can tell she does this because she really loves it, not just for the money.

Jenny is awesome! I thought surfing was going to be a pain in the butt to learn, but after 1 hour with Jenny I was ready for the North Shore, too bad its not winter, I would’ve been tearing it up.
