This is pretty much IT for sporting goods in oahu. I always come here for my every sporting/​outdoor need from basketball shoes to my daughters soccer shin guards to a tent for a party.
Yes, you can find things cheaper at Ross or tj maxx but I am a man of convenience. I like that sports authority has a pretty wide selection at reasonable prices. Time is money to me and being a bargain hunter is not something I partake in.
Service is good. Staff are helpful and cashiers have been friendly and quick to call a manager for assistance to resolve issues quickly. Parking is decent and usually don’t have a problem finding a spot.

Located at the corner of Ward Avenue and Auahi Street, where Oceanic Time Warner Cable and Jamba Juice are located. Lots of parking though this location can get busy very quickly and all the parking spaces get filled.
Good customer service from staff at the registers, polites d solicitous, but hard to get help on the floor. No one is available to ask questions of or to look for merchandise in the back. At the registers, the staff offer to order merchandise for you with FREE shipping to your home address! Nice benefit, but I’d rather have the merchandise in-​store so that I can try it on before purchase.
I guess this is a glimpse into the future of retail, no more store fronts or brick and mortar establishments and personalized customer service. It will be strictly ordering online and hoping for the right, true color and the correct fit!

I am inclined to give this place less stars for being so dang slow. Like molasses. But will stick with three.
It’s a bit store with a lot of potential. They have a vast selection on a lot of items. But… the lighting in the store is somewhat dark, the selection for men’s jackets when I went in most recently, was very picked over, and they carry far too much Champion. That label is junk. Everything I have ever purchased has fallen apart.
The worst part for me is the inefficiency at the cash registers. I have places to be people! Ring us up, for goodness sakes and stop chatting with your fellow cashiers, picking up the phone, and other things that take your attention away from the job you need to be doing. Friendliness is much appreciated at the register but you move like molasses and I cannot bear to wait for you to ring me up! The manager needs to have a meeting with his/​her staff and tell them to pick it up. Efficiency and friendliness CAN go together and would be much appreciated here.

Wow so thankful and enthusiastic over great customer service from Andgela (sp?). Her positive and sympathetic attitude completely WON me over! Had issues re new sign up special offers. However she and manager Carl resolved matter swiftly. Not 1, but *2* special promo offers applied to my purchase!

Good and bad story but great service. I bought a Quik Shade C100 w/​wall panel. It looked great and was strong. But not strong enough. Bought it on the 26^th of July. It broke on the 28^th.
I took it to the beach two times in a roll. It looked strong and it was very windy the first day. But the tent didn’t move much.
The second day, it was not as windy. But a good gust of wind came and bent the legs. Boo! So, I returned it and it was very easy. I didn’t have to explain anything. They just let me grab a new one and grab a new receipt. I bought and returned the item to the same cashier. Her name is Shirley. She is awesome!
Thank you for the great customer service. Let’s hope my new tent last longer this time. We love shopping at this store!

This store allows me not to walk out empty handed. They have everything and the products are good. Displays could be nicer, and clearer. Some brands are mixed with others which is confusing.
Service here is terrible and needs major grooming. Employees were walking by, no one addressed me or acknowledged me the entire visit. Stood in line for about 4−5min while 5 red shirts were behind the square counter. The square counter had 1customer, I was the only one in line why wasn’t I called or addressed by 5 employees knees shirts? An off duty employee out of uniform and with a tattoo on his left leg looked my way and notified 1 of the red shirts that I was waiting. Took about 10sec for her to call me. When she did, she apologized, asked if anyone was helping me today, I said no, and she said she was sorry. Her responses were robotic and not sincere. She signed me up for a point card, couldn’t explain the options. Just told me that I would get a $ 5 credit or something in my email in a few days. I made sure I asked again, she said I would get 5% off my future purchases. Wasn’t enough of an explanation, I guess I’ll google the rest of it.
I’m giving a 2 for the products and the varieties only. I’m a manager in banking and this was definitely an opportunity for management to improve on. ALOHA!

This place is so awesome! I bought a pop up tent for when we go BBQ and it turns out that it’s cheaper here than at Costco! They also offer a great protection plan. I actually broke mine and they replaced it super easy. The staff here is really friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend shopping here for camping supplies.
I’ve never actually bought any clothes or anything else from here, but they have a huge selection and if the prices are as good as their camping equipment I might have to go back for more shopping.

Great (and maybe only) place to shop for sporting goods and exercise equipment in Honolulu. Located at Ward next to Ross and a few small restaurants, it’s convenient with lots of free parking. The store is one of the older buildings in the complex, but the inside is new and clean. They have a large selection of merchandise, basically anything sports related that you have to have ‘right now.‘
Be sure to sign up for their rewards program: you get a $ 5 coupon just for signing up and build up points fast after that. There is plenty of floor staff for assistance and minimal wait time for cashiers. Last time I was in, the cashier was very efficient and friendly. Nice store with nice people.

The Sports Authority is Exhibit A when I think of examples of why to buy local. While I can’t speak for every department and every item in the store, from what I have observed in the baseball and fishing departments I am not a fan of their merchandising and pricing tactics. Sure they have the top of the line items available at MSRP like baseball bats and fishing reels. But everyday items have often been replaced with obviously lower quality (and no doubt purchased by the store for much cheaper) goods… that are priced far higher than what they should be. I am quite sure they don’t have the customer’s best interests in mind when they do this.
That being said, the Sports Authority is difficult not to patronize for your sporting good needs — the size of the store, Sunday sales, etc. almost force you in there. The sales staff is typically very friendly and helpful and I don’t think I have ever had a problem with the service after the sale. But, if getting a quality item at a fair price is important to you, buy local.

Gave my tennis racquet for restringing and was told it would be ready in 48hrs and they would call me once ready. After about a week passed by and not having received a call from them, I called up to see if the racquet was ready and was told it was not ready yet, we will call u when it is ready. My problem was that I was leaving for an international trip and would be gone for a month, so had to go pick up the unstrung racquet. I am not sure where the ball got dropped because I made sure they made a note on the order that worst case scenario I need it before this date. I guess I will try again when I get back or take it somewhere else.
Other experiences at the store have been good and the folks working here know their stuff and are helpful.

I do know this store has been here for at least 15-​years… way back when I was a muscle head and iron plates would give me excitement, more so than… Oh, nvm! I still love exercise, but I’m not obsessed to look like Conan the Barbarian anymore!
Today, I probably visit Sports Authority, two or three times a year, nothing more than that. It’s now more about the quality of life rather than lifting 500-​lbs and flexing every minute, but then again, I guess I’m just getting older too!
On my last visit here… I came with my BFF, Heidi P. and her oldest son. We were in search for MMA striking or boxing heavy bags for training. Sadly, a week before Christmas limited the selection, so quite frankly, we didn’t find exactly what we wanted! Still, my bestie had a list of things to get here, so we ended walking out with MMA gloves, hand-​wraps, a baseball t-​ball stand, gum (yes, gum!) and a tent! It’s nice that Sports Authority has a Unilocal check-​in offer… Basically check-​in and get a virtual coupon worth $ 10 off $ 50 or more spent! So, yes splitting it into two transactions with two separate virtual coupons (we both checked-​in) saved my BFF $ 20 total! Not bad!
Overall, the staff seemed to be always around the next corner asking if we needed help, but not in a pushy way.
Again, I’m rarely in here, but if you love sports — playing or watching, into the fitness lifestyle, or just love dressing like a pseudo fitness freak… This is a one-​stop place for you!
Sports Authority also has a nice selection of athletic shoes and those Under Armor skin-​tight garb you see around the gym — just wish they had some in hot pink with red hearts! And where’s the Richard Simmons short shorts? Just joking, you muscle heads! Lighten up and breathe!

I must get into the «negative» from the start.
I find that the restrooms are located outside the facility. I know from an employee that they have restrooms for customers, though we attempted to buy an exercise bicycle today, I learned that their policy is to send us to the «outside» restrooms.
They are UNSAT to say the least. There was a line so long for the MENS room and not to mention the women’s room… There should be a policy that we BUYING customers should get to use the CLEAN bathroom in back.
Needless to say, once I learned that there are two restrooms, I refused to make a purchase there. I opted to take my business elsewheres. Think about customer service when you tell a $ 900 customer to «use the restroom outside», It sounds like an «outhouse outback» to us. If I’m paying that amount, needless to say ANY amount, I deserve to use the clean restroom. No offense, though there were homeless using the facility to shower with a LONG line outside waiting!!!
They have sales and there was a killer sale on exercise bicycles though after this experience, I’ve opted to shop elsewhere for my needs. Fix your restroom policy and I’ll return. Try a policy that reads «…buying customers may use the in store facilities, though those who opt not to shop here may use the open facilities outside and to the left of the entrance». This would make us REAL customers happy… REAL HAPPY.

They are so helpful!
There are two entrances to this Sports Authority. One near the Starbucks and the other near, Bale and the McDonalds. I came here looking for a tent and got what I needed. In a shorter amount of time than I expected. Technology is great because you can get instant service. I asked one woman about tents and she called someone to help me out and was there in less than a minute. After that I was in line and that was it! Super easy. I even had a very muscular gentleman help me carry things to my vehicle. I even got a small conversation out of him saying how much he enjoyed his job! Yeay to having people who like their job, help you. Who doesn’t love good customer service?

At the beginning of the year I, like many others, told myself I would be more active! So I guess the first step is to buy sports equipments and whatnot. This Sports Authority is a lot bigger than it appears; I was actually surprised to see the amount of things they carry here.
Sales associates are all right. For the most part, if you’re looking for something, it’s easier to find it yourself. Occasionally they did ask if I needed help with anything. The check out long was long, but moved quickly. I don’t think I need any more sporting goods, but it’s a fun place to browse and shop.

I came in looking for one of those mesh canopy tents that goes over your picnic table and keeps the bugs out. After a week-​long search at Walmart, who’s customer service is HORRIBLE, I decided to give up on ordering through them and went over to Sports Authority.
Customer service here was great and the process was fast. Their store is laid out well and it was very easy to find the camping section (alllllll the way in the back corner of the store). The sales associate knew exactly what I was looking for and was helpful in showing me the size of the canopy.
The checkout line was a bit long, but nothing out of the ordinary. After checking in on Unilocal,I was able to redeem my $ 10 discount at the register (THANKS Unilocal, YOU ROCK!).
I left a happy camper, get it, get it? ;)

This place never seems to fail when it comes to shoes. Whatever happened to just plain black shoes? All these colorful shoes in here is like walking in on a acid trip. Rows of shoes with ridiculous colors you would never catch me wearing. I’m more into the subdued colors.
I did manage to find a black pair if nice nikes but they dont carry it in wide. Fricking disappointing bummer.
I think they need to realize hey, this is Hawaii. Not everybody got narrow feet and I’m sure I’m not the only one that goes through this.

It is a Sports Authority, so there is not too much to say since they are all mostly the same. The Sports Authority on Ward Avenue is a bit bigger than most.
I usually go in for clothing and shoes and don’t need any help from the staff. I can usually find most types of sports clothes I’m looking for. I’m a bit disappointed in their selection of shoes. They seem to have a MASSIVE number of shoes to choose from, but I am usually looking for some type of cross-​trainer and their selection seems to be limited.
If you are looking for other things such as weight, fitness devices, equipment, etc… the staff are usually friendly and easy to find and get simple questions asked. They may have to ask other staff members if you have specific questions.
