Salsamor – Latin Dancing at Ginza

My first salsa experience and it was an absolute blast! I learned three different styles~ the merengue, bachata, and the popular salsa. For the first hour (8−9pm), they teach you all the steps & help you get down the basics. Perfect if you’re a beginner (like me). They had us switch partners often. I got pro lessons from dancing one-​on-​one with the instructors, it was so much fun! The beat of Latin music is addictive. I have to do this again!
P. S. If you’re a lady, I recommend wearing a flowy dress, fun for your spins (my favorite moves).

The best place to dance Salsa, Bachata, Merengue on a weekly basis. The ambiance is perfect for dancing, and there are a lot of regulars and ample parking if you get there early. If you come here for a few weeks, you will know most of the people and that’s a plus when you are a beginner.
If you are new, the free classes 8 – 9 are a great way to get started. The dance floor gets crowded as the night goes on. There are plenty good dancers that come out to dance. Ladies, if you stand by the dance floor, you will definitely be asked to dance. As for the guys, almost all the women say yes to a dance here, so this is a good place to start practicing what you have learned.
The drinks are good, and reasonably priced. The bartender is always friendly. And the DJ has great taste in music and is aware of the crowd (and takes requests). Come dressy or casual, as most people come to dance and have a good time.

This place is definitely the best spot I’ve found for salsa in Honolulu. Fun people, lots of space.

Thursday night at Ginza is great for dancers looking to dance LA or New-​York style salsa, bachata, and a touch of merengue. The music selection from the DJ is pretty great, with some catchy and memorable salsa songs that will compel you to groove on the dance floor! I’d say on average that bachata is played just as much as salsa, so the breakdown is something like 45% salsa, 45% bachata, and 10% merengue.
The DJ also won’t mix songs into each other, which is great! It sucks to have salsa or bachata songs mixed together, because it makes it awkward to dance with the same person for minutes on end, so the DJ gets points from me for that too!
I’ve been going to this night for about 4 weeks now (i.e. I’ve gone at least 4 times), and the club is always pretty full, I’ve never seen a dead or dull night. So there’s always plenty of people to dance with. I keep meeting new people every time I go, which is awesome and exciting!
The cover charge is cheap ($ 10), and you get a complimentary drink!
I have a few minor complaints. First, the dance floor is overpowdered if you show up early between around 9pm-​10pm. The powder is there to help dancers spin on the dance floor (this is not uncommon for salsa venues all over the US), but honestly, the dance floor at Ginza doesn’t need it, it’s already smooth and perfect for spinning. The overuse of powder at the beginning of the night just makes the floor *too* slippery to spin, and it makes it harder to do shines (solo salsa footwork). I’m always a little afraid that if I plant my full weight on a foot too hard, that I’ll end up slipping. The powder becomes less of a problem after about the first hour though (it probably get swept off from all of the dancing), so you won’t have to deal with it all night.
Keep in mind, however, that I actually wear jazz shoes on the dance floor (which have suede soles, not rubber), which is common footwear for more hardcore salsa dancers, so that already helps me to spin on Ginza’s (un-​powdered) dance floor. If you’re wearing a ruber-​soled shoe, I guess the powder makes it easier for you to spin… so depending on what kind of footwear you’re wearing, you may have a different opinion about the powder on the floor than mine.
The last complaint I have is that the men’s bathroom lacks paper towels, or when there are paper towels, it’s just a giant roll on the sink, instead of in the wall dispenser (at least for the last 4 nights that I have gone to the club). When there’s no paper towels, there was a hand towel next to the sink (not ideal), and the giant roll of paper towels next to the sink isn’t ideal either, because it constantly gets wet in that location.
So to sum it all up, Thursday nights at Ginza are great for people looking to dance their booties off to great salsa and bachata tunes! There are a few minor annoyances (like the overly slippery floor and the paper towels in the bathroom), but overall the great dancing makes up for it by miles!

Truth be told, my favorite Latin night is Salsamor!!! Their variety of music between salsa, bachata, and merengue is evenly played throughout the night so for people like me who love bachata, I can get in a good amount of dancing in through the night. There’s lots of space to get your groove on! Nothing but sexy vibes all around on Thursday nights!

Thursdays is still my night that I can freely get out to shoot and dance the night away. At first, the move to a new location may have put off a lot of people, mainly the concern for parking availability. There are a lot of free street parking around the area as well as reasonable paid parking.
The dance floor was at first wasn’t up to par with what Vice had but now that has changed. The floor is cleaner than before and is just as good as when the venue was at Vice. Ambiance is virtually the same as before… dark…save for the occasional flash pop.
Same great Latin dance music spun by DJ Rod and Carlos. Bar staff from Vice has transferred over to this place as well and ready to serve all your favorite drinks.
I like the layout of the place, a large rectangle of a dance floor with lounge style seating and tables around the dance floor. You can dance… you can watch. There’s even some large open booth areas where you can get away from it all if the music is just a bit too loud.
Nice wall spaces and wall pictures depicting various metro areas and skylines. Nice well kept restrooms too.
Patronage are a good mix from young to older and all friendly and willing to dance when asked. Lots of new faces each week, many even new to Latin dancing which is always a good thing. The regulars are back as well, it’s good to see them.
If you are really new to Latin style of dancing, free basic lessons in Merengue, Bachata, and Salsa are taught between 8−9pm. Open social dancing begins at 9 where you can really go all out… with respect to the other dancers of course. Be mindful of other dancers and adjust your dance steps because it can get crowded quickly.
The $ 10 cover charge may seem a lot but admission comes with a drink ticket so now it’s extremely reasonable… and really… no reason at all to not come out early and stay late! Come on out and check out Salsamor Ginza, have fun and who knows… I might take a snapshot of you having the best time of your life… ;)

WOW What a AMAZING experience with Salamor, this past Thursday my Zumba Sisters and myself got to check out the club Ginza if you love Latin Nights on a weekday Thursday is the place the go! Cover is $ 10 the parking is kind of tight there is street parking or upstairs from the night club $ 5 or across the club $ 3 but you do need to move the car by midnight, inside the club it has nice big space to dance the night away a lot of flooring, a lot of seats but you don’t be sitting down you will be dancing salsa, bachata, cha cha, merengue with the hottest tracks the DJ plays up beat hits that will knock you off your feet. I would high recommend this to everyone spread the word around it’s so much fun!!! Go Thursday Nights check it out!!!

This new location is amazing, there was a larger dance floor, nice interior and cool light effects. The parking was free on the street on Kapiolani blvd and around the area, or there was paid parking at the location. I still get to dance with my favorite dancers but I also see a lot of new faces. Over all I love the dance experiece at Salsamor Ginza.

Thursday was my favorite night to dance Salsa — and still is when Salsamor moved from Vice to Ginza! Same crew, same DJ, same bartenders and security staff. Great photographers :) And same great dancers, many great leads for you, ladies friendly atmosfere, safe, fun. Clean non– sticky floor! I Parking $ 5 on the roof, $ 3 till midnight only in the wearhouse across the street, free street parking on Kapiolani. If you have not been there yet check it out!
