Whomever the asian lady was with the Sarah Fawcett hair, do not go to her to cut your son’s hair. We walked in after My Gym today and un fortunately she gave him a dumb and dumber cut and couldn’t even get his sideburns or bangs straight with lots of patches and scragglies. If you can’t cut a kids hair say so. We will never go there again.

When it comes to hair cutting/styling, I am a tough reviewer, so please read this 5-star review with that in mind! Our stylist is Anita. How we found Anita: walked in for a haircut for my teen-aged son. We live in the area, and previously had needed to drive all the way to WAIPIO for the only person who seemed to be able to cut his hair in a consistent fashion and to his/my satisfaction. Results: Several cuts later, we knew we had been blessed to find Anita! What happened next: I had been going to a very nice salon in town, and loved my stylist, but finding/making the time to get there was growing increasingly difficult. So one day, hair SO in need of a cut, I realized I should just ask Anita. Here’s where the«tough reviewer» part comes into play. I was one of those people who seems to have tough hair to cut(like my son, I guess — LOTS of hair, with body, but rather fine in texture). So for me to be happy with a cut is rare. That’s why, when I find someone, I stay! In a previous life, I spent over a year flying form San Fran to LA when my stylist moved! Anyway — Anita cut my hair. I was expecting it to be fine and tide me over ’til I could see my regular stylist. Remember, I was long over due for a cut… But what a surprise when it was one of the best cuts I had ever had! Now, I need to stop here and add — I am one who ALWAYS trusts the professional to do their job. So I did NOT micro-manage or tell her what to do. The style was a bit different than what I’d ever had, as a result. But she ‘listened’ to my hair and cut in harmony with it, if that makes sense. I could tell it was a good cut immediately. The proof of a cut in my mind, however, is always what happens in the coming week or two — as you style it yourself. And then further into the cut to see how it grows out. This is where it gets even better. Not only was it easy to work with and cute, the compliments were numerous. And it grew out well! Other good points — 1) The price! Can I just say that I spend less than half what I used to? 2) The overall ‘experience’: salon is nice, peaceful and clean, although nothing too fancy. And Anita is so nice and ‘good energy’ to be around.(I think that is very important when someone is that close that they are cutting your hair!) Her partner is, as well. Just a nice place! 3) Parking — easy and free, and you walk right in! However, that shopping center is getting a little crowded, and Starbucks is now open, so it might get tough to park soon. :( One thing(this is one way she probably stays so reasonably priced) — Anita usually just wets and cuts your hair. So for those used to the whole«salon experience» with a full wash, etc, etc, you have to ask/specify. She can and will do it, and charges just a bit more. But I think you have to remember to specifically tell her you want that. Give her a good tip — she deserves it! :)

I am so particular about my hair only because if it is cut wrong, it’s so hard for me to style it. It is coarse and every mis-cut is visible. It also sprouts in ways that it has to be cut in a certain way otherwise my hair cut looks like a botch job. In need of a serious hair cut, I decided to find the closest salon near my beach house I’m staying at. I decided to try Salon and Barber in Aina Haina. At first, I was a little worried about the lady that was cutting my hair because she seemed a little clumsy with the shaver. I was definitely getting nervous. And the way she trimmed the top of my head was different than what I’m used to. She uses the shaver instead of comb and scissor to cut the top. But at the end, I was very happy with her cut. Everything looked even, the top wasn’t too short and the sides was faded nicely. And she was nice. I would definitely go back the next time I visit.

Aina Haina salon is a small but beautifully decorated salon. Anita was very friendly and always does a great job. We used to go to a korean salon before which was fancy but more expensive. My son likes the asian boy haircut which she does really well. Great haircut, great price, easy parking but to be safe call for an appointment.

I was in need of a quick haircut and didn’t have the time nor money to go to my usual salon in Ala Moana. I’d already tried all the places near my home in Hawaii Kai, and none had impressed. Then I remembered this spot in the Foodland shopping center in Aina Haina. I had been once before, well over a year ago and had been content with my experience. Not blown away, but definitely acceptable. I walked in sans appointment and was immediately greeted and led to a chair. This was already meeting my «quick» requirement. I never got my hair stylist’s name, but she was very nice, listened to my instructions, and communicated what she was doing. Quick, efficient, talked a little but not overly chatty. The perfect in and out haircut/clean-up. I was very happy with the results. And with a fee of $ 20 even(without tip), how could I complain. That was about $ 70 less than what I usually spend at my salon. Now, will I be giving up my Ala Moana salon? Nope. That is still the best place for style, and the whole salon experience(head, neck, hand massage, high quality products). However, I can definitely see adding Salon & Barber Aina Haina into the rotation. I will be back for sure.
