the BF and I were hungry and super lazy and since we needed to go grocery shopping too, we decided to grab sandwiches at the Signature Café. I got the Turkey Pesto Avocado: turkey, «avocado»(mashed with something & also preservatives to keep the green color — not slices), provolone, mayo, focaccia bread, pesto. The sandwiches are a good size but they don’t cut in half unless you request. Mine was a greasy, oily mess to the point of being unappetizing. Also, don’t sit outside unless you’re interested in witnessing weird sh*t — 1 lady was chewing up large amounts of her food, then spitting it out on the ground for the birds to eat.

Woah woah woah! WARNING– you WILL loose your appetite after you take a bite out of this! Despite the usual slow service, tonight we opted for Safeway Select ‘fresh ingredient’ sandwiches! «Grab and go» is ill-fitting here. They took away the old advertisement of a free sandwich if they took longer than 7(?? Or so) minutes to make it upon ordering. Anyway, just to acknowledge, the ratio of unfriendly Safeway employees to friendly(and helpful and knowledgable) employees is about 5:1, so I wasn’t too taken aback by the lone woman behind the sandwich counter(8÷29÷15 about 8pm.) Her back was turned to me as I approached the counter. I knew it was later in the evening, but all of the sandwich making goods were still out, uncovered and ready to go, and it goes a little something like this… «excuse me miss, can I still place an order here?» She turns,“Yes.“ I order. «May I have a chicken artichoke sandwich?» She gets right to it. I then ask,(because she didn’t), «Can I have the bigger size sandwich please?» She glares up at me, as she has already started putting things on the bread, «You want a bigger sandwich?» She eyeballs me suspiciously, as I am a skinny, scrawny little girl. «Yes the larger one, the $ 8.99 one.» She asks again, «You want the $ 8.99 one? This is the $ 5.99 one. You want the $ 8.99 one?» «yes.» I say, «I want the large one.» She looks down at her sandwich, in disbeleif. Clearly flustered by all the work she had already done. I try to save the day and say«Its okay, I was going to ask you to cut it anyway, so it’s fine, you can just make the other half too.» That seems to relax her a bit, she doesn’t have to scrape all that she had started and start all over again. With regret in my voice, I ask for one more half italian. She nods. Knowing this would take some time, I let her know I would go ahead and pay for my groceries at the front registers and come back. And I do so. Once I’m back, she places the sandwiches,(two inside of a separate plastic bag, one without a bag set on top) on the top of the display case. Okay cool. So i grab the sandwiches and shuffle myself down to her register. She looks at me. I say«Can I pay here?» She says«No I closed the register already, sorry you can pay for them up front.» Man! I wish she gave me the heads up beforehand, and saved me the trip back! When I went to pay up front again, i found that she had carelessly placed the price sticker tag half way around one sandwich, and halfway stuck to the other’s plastic bag! This caused the sandwich to unravel and almost fall out complelty onto the floor when I picked it up! Luckily, no real damage was done! Just half the contents spilled out onto the floor! *** And FINALLY, brace yourselves***** I come home and give my husband his meal, the chicken artichoke sandwich. He takes two bites and then spits his food out! «They gave me straight cartilage!» He cries out in disgust. «It’s probably just dry» I said. He takes the chicken strip out and tries to bite it again. The chicken won’t tear, his teeth marks barely make a print in it! Rubbery, old, cartilage-y chicken! Dry as Bone! Uneatabile. Undigestiable. Unservable!!! I don’t care what time of night it is, never serve that to your paying customers! Throw it away or take it home and feed it to your dogs, don’t charge someone money for this! My husband, in frustration, splits the sandwich in half to further investigate the disaster of a sandwich, and BOOOOOOM, big ol CURLYHAIR from who knows what part of the human body! Right smack dab in the center of the chicken. I mean, did I do something wrong to this lady? Does she hate me? I couldn’t trust the rest of the food after this. Who knows what else happened while I was away? I was 1) served food that should have never been served 2) given no common courtsey that she would not be ringing me up herself, 3) received no common courtsey to even take care to wrap my food right(nor did she put a paper to prevent sogging juices everywhere 4) shown no friendliness or any sort of customer service 5) 6) and 7) served a HAIR off of SOMEONESBODY. That is enough reasons for me to boycott all together. This could have been an isolated event. But I can’t look past it, since it’s not like safeway employees make up for it in kindness or customer satisfaction anyway.

Great selection of soups, sushi, sandwiches and sides!!! How’s that alliteration for you? ;-) If you are organizing a party, you can call the sushi department 24 hours ahead to make a platter for your party. Great sushi. When it’s fresh. The tomato bisque is beau’s favorite with bread. We also love the mushrooms, olives and artichokes area.

While«stalking» Brian M. on his check-ins one morning… AHEM!!! What I meant to say was«While observing outstanding Elite Unilocaler Brian M. the other day…» I came across this unusual check-in of «Safeway Signature Café» and started to check out the posted pics from this place. It’s pretty much a deli that is within the Beretania Safeway(all the way Diamond Head side) that makes your sandwiches made-to-order. I came here with a friend before going to the Ocean Expo at NBC Exhibition Hall this morning as we were both hungry and wanted something quick to eat. So after recalling Brian M.‘s check-in, I suggested we come here. For breakfast, this place is a BARGAIN peeps! For $ 2.99 you get to choose either a breakfast sandwich or a breakfast burrito and if you have a Minute Maid 16 oz bottle juice you pay an additional $ 1.99 instead of regular price $ 2.39! So that makes if $ 5 for both breakfast burrito and juice!!! To our surprise there was a «line» to have your sandwiches made so we watched what other people were ordering. They also had a whole bunch of cold cut deli meats all pre-portioned and the roast beef looked really good! So we decided to get a breakfast burrito and a deli sandwich($ 5.49). For your breakfast sammy you can choose from flour tortilla or their homemade bread, choice of meats(bacon, ham or sausage), egg(regular or egg whites) and cheese(pepperjack, cheddar, provolone). For my burrito the clerk put in some deep-fried seasoned potato wedges, sausage patty, fried egg, pepperjack cheese, chipotle pepper dressing and I requested to have some pickled pepperoncini peppers added. After rolling it she threw it in a toaster for about a minute and cut it in half. My friend opted for a deli sandwich and had many choices of breads to choose from(rye, wheat, white, sliced sourdough, sourdough roll) and you chose your veggies like you do at Subway. However, they did have some«gourmet» toppings and I wanted some seasoned artichoke hearts which was an additional 50 cents and it was sure worth adding! Oh, and when you added a juice with a sandwich, the price was reduced from $ 2.39 to $ 1.00 as part of their combo specials. What a bargain!!! Or, you can have bottled water and chips or a large soda with a sandwich for just an additional $ 1!!! Both the breakfast burrito and roast beef sandwich were incredible! It sure didn’t taste like fast food at all. The quality was superb and the prices were sure good. They have an outside dining area with a nice city view and fresh air. The place was clean and fortunately no pigeons«stalking» for food. Funny how«stalking» came out again… NOTES: 1) Parking here is ample and the stalls are large. 2) Buy 7 sandwiches and the 8th one is FREE. You don’t get a punch card but their system keeps track of your purchases. I had to punch in my home telephone number. 3) You can pay directly at the Signature Café but by only credit card. Someone in front of us wanted to pay by cash and she had to go to the regular check-out line to do so.

Signature Café is actually the deli located in Safeway. This review is for the Signature Café Breakfast Sandwich and Burrito, that with a «just for U» Safeway special mobile coupon was just $ 2.49! After ordering the breakfast sandwich I was expecting a small Mcd’s type of sandwich, well I was pleasantly surprised as it was a pretty large breakfast sandwich. You have a say in constructing it, Ham or Bacon, type of cheese, egg whites or plain and a lot of times they’ll let you add extra veggies, what a deal just for $ 2.99 regular price or $ 2.49 on special… FTW! I’m constantly stopping by Safeway during the week to pick a salad or something for lunch, so when I decided to change it up and pick up a breakfast sandwich I had to laugh because I remembered Val Y. Great Wacky review of this place, love your review Val! Don’t forget about the buy 7 sandwiches and 8th one is free, no punch card necessary, they keep track of your purchases and when you hit the 7th one the cashier will give you a coupon for a free sandwich. I’m sure the prepackaged sandwiches also count toward this promotion, who doesn’t love FREEFOOD! Did you hear something Squeaking? Oh that was me! BTW I got a delicious FREE Philly Cheese Steak with my coupon! *Lots and Lots of free parking available
