I specialize in using music to create unforgettable wedding and event experiences.

As the sole owner and employee, when you book Roman Candles, you get me and only me as the DJ and MC.

I have more than 6 years of radio, club, and mobile DJ experience in Honolulu, Hawaii.

I mix everything from Frank Sinatra, classic jazz, funk, rock, country, soul, latin and R&B, to the most recent Top 40 hip hop/​pop/​EDM/​remixes, as well as underground ‘club style’ hip hop and house.

Whether you’re getting married or just looking to rock a party, DJ Roman Candles will bring the funk!

History

Established in 2009.

As the host of «The Morning Jive» variety show during the Thursday morning rush hour, I play funky jams for the people starting their day with work, school, and play. I’ve been with KTUH FM 90.1, as well as DJing and MCing live events around O’ahu since 2009. I have my own professional turntables, mixer, sound and lighting equipment, and can spin events anywhere in Hawai’i.

I have a huge selection of music that includes 80s/​90s hip hop, house, electro, funk, dub/​roots reggae, psychedelic rock, and current Top 40. With this library, I am able to provide any type of music for any mood.

I like to mix my tunes based on the crowd vibes, and I will take requests that match the set. My goal is to take care of the music and announcements, so you can focus on enjoying your event.

I also take requests on my radio show on 90.1 KTUH FM Honolulu every Thursday from 6−9am.

When I’m not on air or mixing a funky fresh live set, I like to sail, SCUBA, lounge on the beach, find groovy new music, and explore my surroundings. I’m certified as a lifeguard, sailing instructor, and PADI Divemaster.

I’m enjoying post-​grad life in paradise now that I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa with Minors in Spanish, Political Science, and Marine Biology.

Working for myself as a mobile DJ and giving the gift of entertainment is the best «job» I could ever dream of.

Before I turn 30, I plan to travel the world under sail in search of the perfect reef, wind, waves, sands, and jams.

I met many DJs at the Bridal Expo but DJ Roman Candles stood out of the crowd because of his personality: fun and laid back. He was so helpful and experienced regarding the planning of our reception. He provided many recommendations that were right on point. On the day of our wedding, he was so professional yet fun and approachable. It was a small wedding yet he kept the dance floor full. We received a lot of compliments on him. He even sent a follow up email after our wedding to congratulate us and attached pictures he took from the wedding that we were not expecting. He’s personable yet professional and goes above and beyond your expectations. Hire him as your DJ! You will not be disappointed!

We got married on December 27, 2015 and hired DJ Roman Candles after finding his listing with a professional DJ association. It was really important to us that people danced at our wedding so we threw down for a dance floor and hired Roman. We gave him a tall order because we come from different cultures where I’m white and and my husband is Latino and we think that meringue makes a party! We also put in some requests for some Bolivian music that we weren’t sure he could find. We asked for funk, dance, rock, and a Sinatra song! Roman met with us and was good at communicating via email and was responsive. He’s very low key. He got all of the special songs we asked for and at the reception — It. Was. Awesome. I actually caught myself thinking during all the craziness: Damn this music is good! People danced all night and it was nice because he played music we didn’t know but matched the music we requested, and got people on the dance floor. At some point in the night one of the groomsmen requested an obscure Spanish song that he wanted to dedicate to us and, I don’t know how, but Roman managed to find and play it. I wholeheartedly recommend DJ Roman Candles for your wedding. We told him what we wanted and he more than delivered.

Fantastic wedding DJ! Hands down the dance floor was my favorite part of our wedding reception. Roman was so easy to work with and did a great job coordinating with us before the big day to make sure he understood how we wanted the vibe to be. He also MCed our wedding and did a great job. I heard Roman Candles on KTUH once and was totally blown away. Roman Candles offers the whole package. He’s entertaining as a performer as well as a person. He listens to your questions and follows through with everything. He offers a fun environment and gets the crowds going. The best part is that he is a total professional, and excels and getting the job done. He plays great music, and comes on-​time and prepared. Roman performed at my school’s Earth Fest this past year and absolutely nailed it. He’s now being hired for my friends’ weddings. Check him out.

I met Roman at an party he DJed at a club in Chinatown, and he was awesome! I think there was 150 people or so at the event, and his audio equipment was stellar. His choice of music was totally perfect for the crowd, and he actually mixed a turn table, unlike most other DJs in Hawaii who just play various top 40 hits. Every track we requested he had, and as I said, the sound quality was amazing. He had really amazing artists that I’d never even heard of that were perfect for the event. If you’re hosting any event, wedding, party, etc., you definitely need to hire Roman.
