My wife, son, and I came here for passport photos and while they do things a bit differently than how things are done in Korea, they were courteous and service-​friendly. When we came back again for a retake because of my wife’s photo not meeting the Korean passport requirements, they shot another set free of charge. We were glad about that and left the place with our parking validated and satisfied.

Wow!!! How is this guy still in business!!! First time here just came for passport photo and this guy has the worst attitude ever! tip! If you hate your life keep it to your self if you want return Buisness!!!

Ever since longs stopped developing film, my coworkers and I usually stop by here to get our film developed. It’s really convenient because it’s located right across SAMS, Walmart, and alamoana. So you can drop off your film, walk around a little, come back and pick it up!
To develop regular film it’s usually about an hour wait. If you’re developing black and white I think they stop processing at 2pm so you’re gonna have to come back the next day. I’m not sure but it’s always good to give them a call for any questions!
Price is reasonable I guess.

Came here for a passport photo. I should have come here first before numerous passport photo failures.
You can park in the Samsung Plaza parking and have your parking ticket fully validated.
The store owner (?) promptly took my photo and showed me the digital image if it was okay. I was surprised to find it perfectly fine on the first try (I went to several other places for horrible photos prior to this visit) and said it was great. He asked me to wait for 10 minutes and I think I waited only about 5 minutes.
It was only $ 10 for two sets of passport photo, which is more reasonable than Walgreen and Walmart (and they really lack in taking good passport photos.)
This place gets it right. I read other reviews that stated rainbow is more costly but they actually have the lowest rate for passport photos among other places I went to (Walmart, Walgreen, a photo shop in downtown…)

I’ve been coming to Rainbow Photo Lab for passport photos for the past few years and have only been satisfied with my photos once.
I finally decided to post a review about this place after my last experience on February 20, 2014.
I needed professional passport photos for an overseas job and decided to come back to Rainbow Photo Lab because I’ve been doing so for quite some time. It’s always the same guy working behind the counter when I go (possibly the owner?). I request for passport photos and am then told to sit on the stool near the entrance.
The nice thing about this place is that, if you’re not satisfied with the photo taken, the worker will take another picture for you. It took me four times (a little much, I know) before I gave up. However, the reason I gave up was more so because of the worker.
The worker glared at me… literally GLARED at me when I asked for a retake after the first photo. That’s just unprofessional.
After about ten minutes your photos are ready. Two passport photos for roughly $ 20.
Never coming back. And not just because I won’t be on Oahu anymore.

This was my first time ever using Rainbow Photo Lab and when we 1^st entered the store, the man behind the counter (assuming its the owner) was working on something for another customer already in the store, but he was friendly and greeted us before the door even closed behind us. He asked what we needed and I let him know, the ever so annoying passport pictures. He said a few minutes and he’ll be right with us. The shop is very small, and honestly there’s just about enough standing room (comfortably) for about 5 – 6 people, which eventually happened after we had walked in. He suddenly got busy, but he was never in a rush or impolite, just on the ball. He took our pictures and it went like a snap for the hubby, but then came my turn… this poor man, after the 1^st picture snapped, then the 2^nd…“can I take another?” «ewwww delete, one more time??» and he happily obliged even with a little giggle, as though I am NOT the first female that asks these questions. Voila!!! 2 perfect passport photos, done within 7 minutes of us walking in and then a 10 minute wait for the actual photos and to pay. I was very happy with the service. If I can just get one person to come here to take care of passport pics and it saves them from going into another shop down the street (starts with «K» and ends in «inkos» —– not nice and more expensive, and just not a good experience all around.) Then I’m happy. He does all types of other photo services as well. So if you need any type of picture/​photo/​video service, you found it! I definitely recommend Rainbow Photo Lab!

8 mm to mp4
I took some 8 mm film reels and Beta Tapes that contained old family videos and digitized them. I can now view these analog bad boys in a stunning 720×405 pixel glory!!!
For each reel, They gave me a DVD and let me bring in my portable hard drive to transfer the mp4 files.
I can now post them on to youtube like my parents intended back in the 80’s

Great service. A bit pricey but worth it, delivered what and when promised. That’s saying a lot these days.

I had a need for a small photo set; I needed a set of two photos for a visa application but they had to be 4 cm. by 3 cm. I had a set done at Wal-​Mart right across the street one night after work but it was too big. I decided to try this place since it was conveniently located and I figured a photo specialist would be able to fulfill my unusual request.
I walked in the front door and the man behind the desk (who appeared to be the owner) engaged me in a friendly manner that was much more than I was expecting based on the reviews of this place. I told him what I needed and he asked me for the exact dimensions and told me he could do that. He pointed out a mirror I could use to touch up my appearance while he got his camera ready, took my picture and showed it to me on the camera screen to confirm it was what I wanted. He said it would be ten minutes and it was about that long or a little less. Faster than Wal-​Mart, was able to accommodate my custom request, but costed a little more. I don’t know what happened with the other review that said they got charged 15 for the first set of passport photos and 10 for the second, but mine was $ 10 even with tax.
Overall the experience could not have been any better, other than if it were a little cheaper, but Wal-​Mart cuts corners so they can undercut everyone on everything, so they’re probably a bad place to compare to.
I hope that I’m done using obscure photo services that I only use once a decade or so for a while, but if I need to, I know I can count on Rainbow Photo Lab!

I needed a passport photo ($ 15) which needed to be sent to my email address. I just gave the guy the prerequisites of the photo for my online passport application and it was done in 5 minutes. I submitted the photo online which got approved and processed all in 1 take. The high price was well worth it because the service was second to none!

first off, prices are high sure, but it’s a local shop in hawaii near the alamoana area, obviously rent isn’t cheap, and it’s not like every one in hawaii is shooting tons of film to give them business, so to balance out low volume obviously prices will be higher.
if it’s 35 mm negative, i usually just take it to cvs, cause at lesat for that cvs is experienced enough, and cheaper. and if i’m using regular film like that, i’m usually just shooting random things that i think look pretty. As this is the regular film most people use, cvs walgreens or walmart usually sucks up most of the customers, cuz how many ppl know those stores? and how many ppl know rainbow?
however i didn’t find about rainbow til i decided to dive into reversal/​slide film, where this is the only darn place to service. I mean sure i could have done a mail out through walmart, (or so i read, idk how true), but i’d rather deal directly with a company so if anything does go wrong i know who talk to, and if it goes right i know who to praise.
in my case everything went right. i took tmax 400 b&w 120 film, and a velvia 50 135, and a 100 fujichrome slide for 120, and they all turned out wonderfully processed. The colors matched how i envisioned it. I know one might say «if you exposed it right it should come out right», but still i’m sure places can mess up your film, but this place got all my slides to turn the sight i tried to meter out perfectly.
they even mounted my slides, sure it was like a bit over 30 $ to develop 2 rolls of slide film, but well worth it. If i did it online i might be able to do it for like 24 $ or something, but i’d have to pay to ship it to n from, or use super slow 3 – 7 day free mailers, that could get damaged in the mail (longer in transit, more chance to be damaged)
though i didn’t do the whole passport things, i understand their way of doing it is more efficient than friendly, cuz they aren’t a portrait photographer, they aren’t gonna set up studio lights and umbrellas just to take a passport lols, that’d be ridiculous. I think as long as they capture the detail to identify you (point of a passport lmao) that is the main part and they did their job. try finding any portrait studio willing to take a perfectly lit portrait of anyone for 15 $ let alone to print your photo –_​– hahaha.
i will concur that this place isn’t the happy go lucky place, but then again i didn’t personally try to hit a convo with the guy behind the counter. He didn’t seem grumpy at all, just neutral. I said i wanted this developed, paid for my last order n paid for the new order (as i wanted it shipped, so i had to pay upfront), and that was that. No hassles… or unwanted criticisms of my choice of film or subject.
i hope my long review will shine light for other people wanting to develop their film here. If something does come up i’ll be sure to add the bad too, but if things stay the way they are, i’ll be a happy camper.
ps. i prefer ppl who dont strike random convos with me, but are easy to deal business with. i get what i want, n they get what they want with no hassles. but if you want that «aloha, good morning» cheery mumbo jumbo stuff, idk if this place offers it lols.
the only reason i didn’t give this place 5 stars is cause idk if this is «as good as it gets» as i’m only a starting customer, but i can say 4 stars cuz it was a good exp.

I would rate this place 4.5, really.
This place is the place to go for high-​quality inexpensive canvas prints. Went on a Monday to drop off my picture, and the man said I could pick it up the next day. I’ve called other photo places, and they said I would have to wait a few days to a week or have it «rushed» and pay extra. They work super fast! The price was way reasonable too.
My engagement picture is high-​quality and was ready the next day! They also have other services like VHS or betamax to dvd services, photo restorations, etc. Their website is pretty accurate.
I rated it 4 starts because of the limited parking.

Went in there to take the passport photo and I couldn’t believe it charges for 2 set (4 pictures) of the passport it charges $ 25. When the guy ring up and I look at the register, WHAT???$ 25???I asked him how much is that and he say the first set is $ 15 and the second set is $ 9.55. This is the most expensive passport photo I ever get. The sign shows $ 9.55 for a set and then when he ring up it turn out to be first set is $ 15 and second set is $ 9.55. Be aware. It just high price for that thing. No doubt you can get the picture in 10 minutes, but the picture have shadow. Isn’t that perfect. If you think you like to pay that price you can come here, else go somewhere else. This is just insane.

Did a great job on an enlargement for me. Came out great. Was a little more than I thought it would be…$ 28 for an 8×10.

Need nice passport photos? Go to Rainbow Photo Lab, conveniently located near the Ala Moana area. I found street parking nearby, went it, no line, sat down, took my passport pic, waited 10 minutes, rec’d two nice pics of me just the way the passport directions said and paid $ 10.00 and walked away happy. What a relief – and the picture was NICE & I’m hardly ever photogenic… glad it’s nice – it has to hang with me for a decade. Did anyone know that a passport & card cost $ 140.00??? I should Unilocal review that process next!

Walked in needing a passport photo, he shot and printed it and I was in my way in 5 minutes! Another customer came in asking to transfer video from a VHS to DVD and again he said no problem! Even promised to have it ready within a couple of hours for her!

«Rainbow» Photo & Video. Rainbow makes me think, innocent. happy. pot of gold. Care Bears! I wanna go! Well, I am sorry to report, no pot of gold and I’m certainly not happy. No Care Bears either. Surprise, surprise.
Note, the only service I have gone here for is getting film developed and scanned to CD. The several times I have gone the people behind the counter were inexperienced and pretty clueless about film in general. You may think, «Well duh, who shoots film now days?!» First, plenty people do. And secondly, that doesn’t matter. If they offer the service, their people should be trained and know their stuff.
Developing prices? I haven’t been there for a while now, but I remember some services (specifically cross processing slide film) being exorbitant. We’re talking 2 – 3 times the cost of other places here. I’m sure not all their prices are that bad thus my price rating is moderate. I had gotten a few rolls developed at a lower cost the first two times I went. That suddenly changed when the owner or manager was in one day and apparently «corrected» the situation, saying I was given the wrong price before. And now it’s over twice what it was? I walked out. Besides which, their developing and scanning wasn’t even good.
High prices, employees not knowledgeable, only decent services? Feeling a little deceived here. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere from here on.
