Pearl Harbor Federal Credit Union

I’ve been going to the Makaloa branch for many years, which is one of the CUs that is shared with my CU. Today I made a small deposit and, as usual, asked to have my parking validated. The teller said they don’t validate parking for shared members. I said I’ve been getting my parking validated every time I’ve been here for the past 7 years or so. The teller became very snotty and said that they’ve never validate parking! After I pressed her on this policy she seems to have made up, she blurts out that it was just made «this year». That’s interesting because this is the first time I went to this branch this year. If that was the case she should have validated my parking and warned me that in the future that a they will not validate anymore. That 5 minute visit cost me $ 2, which was 10% of my deposit. What a scam. Won’t go here again.

I currently have an auto loan with this bank because they offered a lower loan rate than all of the other FCU banks when I financed a pre-​owned vehicle at the dealership. Business has been pretty good so far with them. The location is really convenient for me especially because it is near where I work in town and right across of my other bank which is First Hawaiian right across the street. They have a parking structure in the building but I always find it better to walk. There is also metered parking along Makaloa St. It’s also conveniently located right next to all of the Makaloa St. shops down the road heading more towards Keeaumoku side and right beside Don Quijote. Whenever I come in to make my monthly payment, the process is always smooth and a breeze. There is hardly a wait. The staff and customer service is good. The hours are aight, typical daytime bank hours. They also have other locations throughout the island.

Nothing terrible about them. They just have lower savings rates than many other credit unions. They also have higher loan rates. When I applied for my auto loan with them, they said my credit was just «B grade» so I got the «B grade» rate. I knew my credit was better than that so I went to a different credit union and got almost 2% less on my APR (I have excellent credit and my new credit union was amazed when I told them PHFCU said I had «B grade» credit).
All in all, they are ok. But better deals with comparable or even better service can be had elsewhere.

Pearl Harbor FCU is now my primary bank. They have great rates and a friendly staff. This location is RARELY busy when I stop by. I hate waiting in line. Their website is also really easy to use and not filled with useless spam like some banks.
