Ocean Legends

We did two reef dives with Rebecca as our dive master and Steve was our boat captain.
Both were friendly, safe and helpful on our dive.
I liked that there were only 4 people and Rebecca on the dive. I don’t like large groups and having to wait or be hurried along by other people.
Rebecca kept a slow pace which was really nice! I really hate spending my dive trying to keep up with a large group instead of enjoying it and watching the wildlife.
Rebecca also allowed me time to take underwater photographs and videos which many dive masters do not allow time for.
We go to Hawaii almost every winter and we will definitely dive with the professionals at Ocean Legends again if we are in Oahu next year!

We used a Groupon for this diving class. They came to pick us up from our hotel in the morning. The first half of the day was spent at their shop watching an instructional video. We then bought a lunch and were taken aboard a boat with some other scuba groups. Our instructor was great, but just don’t expect to be able to do too much or go too deep in the water if this is your first time. This class is really for beginners to get a taste of scuba diving.

I have more than 26 yrs of diving experience. Advanced, Nitrox, Rescue, and 12 years (now retired) as a Public Safety Diver for Sheriff dept. Diving in and out of USA. I called Ocean Legends (long discussion and asked a lot of detailed questions…) before going to Oahu and booked 2 different days of boat diving for self and 2 others. 2 tank dive, supposed to be one wreck and one reef. I asked specifically if we were required to stay with a dive master or not based upon training and experience and was told «no». On first dive trip, told we would have to do 2 wreck dives since they had others that needed to finish cert dives. I said I did not want to do that but had no choice… Then we had to come out early each time due to newbies blowing through their tanks early. I got on board each time with more than 1000 psi and plenty of time before no deco limits. I brought all my own gear and only used their tanks/​weights. My dive buddies needed and used their gear. Regs free flowed and tanks leaked at the neck. They said no worries «just a small leak» and «you are okay to still dive…». Are you kidding me. I objected and forced them to change it out.
Second day of diving, went back to same wreck for a wreck dive and then on to the reef. New Dive Master/​Instructor. Advised her of my certs/​training and that I breathe like a fish and can I take my 2 dive buddies. no can do. I advised that I dive computer and will get a lot of bottom time and will hit no deco limits before I run out of air. Still Had to come out early due to low air for others.
Reef dive: Before going in, computer indicates 50 minutes at 50 feet. Reef is 25 – 45 feet in depth. I advise that I am likely to be able to get a 1 hour dive. Was told «maybe» depending on others. At 46 minutes, I still have 1400 PSI and was told I had to come up. Still had 16 minutes at depth before no deco limits. After getting out of water and onto boat, was told, we were only supposed to be in the water for 45 minutes due to schedule of next charter time. I said that was not discussed in any briefing.
My issue is that it was a clear bait and switch. I asked very specific and pointed questions and was deceived. I would not likely go with this charter again. They try to get 3 charters a day (2 tanks each) and possibly a night charter. Their focus seems to be quantity and not quality. For newbies or inexperienced, this will probably be fine. But I look at how much each minute at depth costs me.
The wreck (Sea Tiger) was a very nice wreck with turtles, eels, sharks. But that had nothing to do with the charter. Also had to share the wreck with 3 – 4 other dive boats so there were about 20 – 25 folks on the boat at the same time. A bit much. There are other wrecks, but they are a little farther away, maybe adding an additional 15 minutes each way. Could have made that easy each day. The reef was nice but not very big and can really be covered in about 30 – 35 minutes.
So, even though I did my research, it did not pay off. There are other places to dive (all season) Electric Beach (walk-​in). North shore in the summer (walk-​in). Rent your gear and do your own dive without any needed dive master or instructor.

With out a doubt this is the best place to get your certificate to dive ! The owners and emoloyes are very friendly and professional .Shane and Regina were so helpful!

Went there today to get my snorkeling gear and was more than impressed with the service I received from Eric and Greg! I have already told all of my friends where they need to go for all of their water adventure needs. Eric was super helpful and I really appreciated the fact that he didn’t try to talk me into more expensive equipment, he told me what I needed and hooked me up! I will definitely be coming back when I decide to get into spearfishing and scuba diving!

Had never scuba dove prior to starting my basic open water dive certification, and I truly believe had it not been for Shane and Regina it would have been a disappointing experience. I purchased a 50% off Groupon for the 2 day Open Water certification and did my first dive with Shane, an experienced diver from New Zealand. Having never dove prior to this first day he worked with me on something I wasn’t particularly comfortable with –underwater mask removal– and was an understanding and patient instructor, after some time in the water I was able to successfully remove my mask underwater, even though conditions underwater, including visibility, were less that desirable that day.
After day one of the 2 day course I scheduled day two for the following weekend, and went ahead and scheduled and paid for ($ 308) my Advanced Open Water certification (the next level up from basic open water). The individual I spoke to on the phone with O.L. was more than welcoming and very pleasant on the phone and was happy to welcome me to the next step in my certification. That following weekend my work scheduled was changed on me, and I was forced to have to change my basic open water day two training day. Well before the 24 hour reschedule cut off, I called O.L. to notify them I would not be able to make the initially scheduled day two training day. This is where things took a turn. I rescheduled my second day for the basic open water, and it threw off my Advanced Open Water scheduled days. And since I was soon to be leaving Oahu I wasn’t able to reschedule my Advanced Open Water certification, and asked to be refunded. The man I spoke to informed me that the certifications «were like college classes, and after purchasing them they could not be refunded» & that it «wasn’t store policy to give refunds.» I questioned this, since I hadn’t even started my Advanced Open Water training at all, and at the time I scheduled my Advanced Open Water over the phone I was not informed there was a no refund policy. The man then informed me that the no refund policy was on the conformation email receipt I received for signing up/​paying for the Advanced Open Water certification. I was dumbfounded by this logic since I wouldn’t have known about the no refund policy until I had gotten the receipt for purchasing the certification, which I also questioned him on. The man then told me the only one there who could initiate a refund was «Eric» and he wasn’t there that day, but would be in by 10am the following day.
I called in the following day and talked to the same man, who had informed me that I had just missed Eric, since he was diving that day and he was already out of the office, and to call back the following Monday. I called back on Monday and was told that Eric was on a trip to the mainland and wouldn’t be back till the end of the week. I called back on Friday and Eric wasn’t there. That weekend my day two open water cert was with Regina, who is an asset to the profession and quickly turned around what I thought would be a stressful experience. I called back the next Monday and again, Eric wasn’t there, but the man who answered asked if he could help me out with my problem, so I explained everything to him, and he said he would contact Eric and get back with me. I waited another couple days, until I received a voicemail from the same guy letting me know that he spoke to Eric and that they would be able to refund me.
So the following week when I got off work I drove down to Honolulu and walked in the retail shop on Nimitz, hoping that them seeing me face to face may have more of an affect than just talking to them on the phone.
When I entered the store and told them I was there for a refund the two men in the shop acted with hesitation and started down the long explanation that it was not store policy give refunds, until I told them my situation and told them I had a voicemail saying I could get a refund. At that point they told me that they could get me a refund, but that I «didn’t have to come into the retail shop» and that their «system could give me an automatic refund,» but that it «wasn’t anything that they could personally do» I bought a t-​shirt from the store, and left without a refund.
I moved off the island the following week, and waited for a week, giving the benefit of the doubt that I would receive this «automatic system refund» before calling again. I finally called six weeks after this all began, and got the same man on the phone, except this time Eric was there. So finally I got to lay out everything that had happened, from the scheduling change to the calling and calling and even appearing at the store for a refund. Apparently Eric was either an owner or manager of O.L. but was not aware that any of this had been happening, he apologized to me, and said I would have a refund within the next two days, which I received. Overall poor experience had it not been for Shane and Regina making up for the other staff members.

Got a STEAL of a deal through Groupon for their Discover Scuba session — with two real dives (not your boring pool experience).
Everything was included — 2xair tanks, BCD vests, regulator, air guage, wet suit, fins, mask, octopus. Tutorial video & credit booklet towards an diving certification (if you choose to continue your education). Boat ride & hotel pickup as well.
My only feedback is that they went a little too fast for us brand new first timers… although I guess the best way to learn is to just dive 40 feet underwater and, well, try to survive. There was really no amount of video or demos that could have prepared me for the experience.
We dived at Horseshoe Reef, which was only a 15min boat ride from the shore. But man! We saw turtles and sharks and an octopus changing colors! Tons of fish too! Soo different from watching discovery channel. I was too busy freaking out on my first dive, but by the second I was relaxed enough to look around and really enjoy the underwater scenary.
There was a mandatory safety stop for about 30min on between, where if you are susceptible to motion sickness, be prepared to endure a queasy stomache. Or, float in the ocean to avoid the motion.
Thia should be on everyone’s bucket list!

Ocean Legends is top notch. Their staff is highly professional and super friendly. From the start they make the entire experience effortless and enjoyable. Whenever I have called on the phone, from booking our first dive certifications, booking more dives, as well as rescheduling, they have been continuously patient and flexible. Each time I’ve called Calib has taken the time to answer numerous questions and offer invaluable additional information and suggestions. And I’ve always received an instant email confirmation immediately after hanging up the phone.
Their dive instructors Shane and Regina were great. They cared alot about the safety of the students, their comfort and ability to perform the certification requirements, and that the experience was fun and not stressful.
Equipment at the shop is a little pricey (as it goes in Hawaii), but they offer discount options if you’re diving with them.
Overall they’ve gained a couple of permanent customers with us.

A few friends and I just had our certification training with Shane and Regina. They are excellent instructors and made the training both fun and thorough. We all had a great time, plus feel very confident in the new skills we learned.

Had Chris as our guide, did two Dives Friday, July 10^th. Great service and nice equipment. Chris was very thorough in explaining what we were going to do before each dive. We actually plan to go back out with them later this week. I highly recommend this place!

Let me start off by saying when I came here I had zero scuba diving experience. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and all my questions were answered directly without making me feel dumb. I did my open water certification and purchased all my ear with these guys and I got a smoking deal on my gear. These guys know how to treat repeat customers. On top of that, their prices are already pretty good. I had Jerry and Tiffany as instructors and they were great. The whole staff is great. Thanks guys

My husband and I took a trip to Oahu to get our open water certification. We were so excited we found a groupon for this 2 day course with ocean legends.
On our first day of diving we arrived at the shop @8am. We did some paperwork and a short quiz and fitted for our dry suits and gear. Still excited and ready to go we hopped in the van with the group and expected a day of fun while learning to dive. This is where the day turned. We first did our 200 meter swim and 10 minutes of treading water. Awesome we got through that. We walked back to the van (ridiculous distance to travel with suit and gear on) we got in the water to do our skills. (All 10 of us) yes 10 inexperienced students with 2 I would have to say new instructors) this is where everything really turned for the worst. We sat under the murky water unable to Hardly see in front of us while the instructors attempted to test us on our skills. This went on for the next 2 hours. At that point we got out of the water to switch our tanks again another trek to the van with wet suit and gear. Back in the water we went to finish our skills. Still unable to see hardly in front of you. Another 2 hours of chaos. I was exhausted, thirsty, and hungry but asked to still push on. I did as asked @ 5pm we finally emerged out of the water with most of our skills completed. Feeling completely fatigued we again walked back to the van. After getting to the van we were told we need to go clean the gear in the restroom showers. (we passed the showers on the hike back to the van) not sure why we couldn’t just stop there in the first place.
This morning I woke up and not only am I beyond exhausted my ears are killing me and I’m sunburnt beyond. Needless to say I am unable to complete my open water certification because of my ears. I truly believe if they would have been more organized this would have not been the case.
We have dove before never had a problem. I truly believe this over booked unorganized dive shop should look into better business practices.
If you are looking to spend your weekend in a boot camp class by all means this is your place. If you are looking for skilled instructors to teach you how to safely dive keep looking.

Having dived for many years and experienced countless dive operations, I found Ocean Legends to be absolutely top notch. I arranged two days of diving for myself and a companion over the phone (everyone I spoke to was friendly, knowledgeable and consistent in explaining options; Eric the manager eventually put it all together brilliantly for us). They coordinated all our equipment, walked us through the instruction and paperwork for an advanced certification, arranged all our transportation and made certain everything went smoothly and on schedule.
I particularly appreciate our dive instructor, Tiffany, who, with a staggering depth and breadth of knowledge, briefed us thoroughly before each dive, guided us on a wide variety of experiences, worked tirelessly on our behalf and was generally an all-​around fun person to hang with.
We did a night dive on a wreck during which we heard migrating whales calling to each other (outstanding!), day and night reef dives and a daytime wreck dive, swam amongst rays, octopi, turtles, eels, myriad fish and other sea life. We had a fantastic experience. I recommend them highly.

If you want to get your next certification, you can get it here. However, if you want to learn important scuba knowledge, this is not the place for you. Make sure you get all you need from the theoretical self study and don’t expect much practical.
If you want to just go diving and don’t care much about the details, choose this dive shop. If you want to get the most out of your dive experience, including actually getting to use your tank of air instead of going off the lowest gauge in the 7 person group, this is not the place for you.
In good news, you get to see wrecks (well, wrecks plural if you’re lucky, otherwise you’ll go to the same wreck every day). It’s likely that you’ll see large sea turtles, eels, and a shark, in addition to many fish. Unfortunately sea creatures here do not go unmolested as the «look but don’t touch» guidelines are disregarded, as is talk of minding your fins so they don’t do damage.
The dive instructors were nice people, but not ideal dive leaders. The captain of the boat was surly. It wasn’t a terrible experience, but it definitely wasn’t an experience we will recommend or repeat.

My fiancé and I unfortunately had a very poor experience with Ocean Legends. We bought a Living Social deal for a «snorkel tour for 2» and were excited to snorkel while we were in Hawaii. What that included were flippers, a mask, and a handheld, motorized device that was supposed to make the whole process easier and more enjoyable. The problem was that we were taken to a spot that was probably about the worst possible location to snorkel. The location was right by the Honolulu aquarium and the water was murky, the reef was so shallow that my fiancé got badly scratched up, and the water was so rough that it was difficult to stay in one place long enough to see anything. In fact, this was the exact area where we had been taken for a surfing lesson the prior day (which was a lot of fun). I am in no way an expert in picking snorkeling spots, but a good area for surfing is probably not the right area for snorkeling. I understand that the weather conditions may have played a role in the problems we encountered, but many of the locals we told about our experience said that the aquarium area is one of the worst places to snorkel, irrespective of the weather. Apparently, the best place is Hanauma Bay, and that was not even offered to us by Ocean Legends. The women who took us out, Marla, was very sweet and understanding. But the truth is that we should have never been taken to that location and if the conditions were not good enough (i.e. the water was at least clear so we could see some forms of marine life), we should have been offered a refund. Lastly, I wouldn’t call the experience we had a «tour» under any circumstance — there was very minimal guidance.

I had a great day with Ocean legends! I had a one on one dive with Tiffany who was fabulous. For our first dive we saw 6+ sea turtles which continuously photobombed my gopro selfies. sneaky ol’ turtles. I saw plenty of curious fish, a grumpy eel, and a napping shark. Everything went very smoothly and I got the Aloha diving experience that I came for. Thank you Tiffany and thank you Ocean legends!

Open water certified thanks to these guys! I took advantage of a living social promotion (certification for $ 199 instead of the regular $ 399) which was an amazing deal made even better by the fact that I was the only student in my class. The whole process was so simple, I just called and gave my voucher number and they immediately emailed me a code for the PADI online course. I booked my dive dates at the same time — they operate 7 days a week so it works for just about any schedule. The dives themselves were awesome. My instructor Brian was knowledgeable and friendly. Since I was the only student, we got through the skills assessments quickly and spent a lot of time just enjoying the sights. He was very good at pointing out interesting sights and sea creatures. During our boat dive, we found some sharks under the reef. I brought my camera but was nervous getting close to them so he helped me get some awesome shots. Definitely recommend!

I tried to go on a two-​tank boat dive with this company with friends. We showed up at 9:30 for what I thought was a 10:30 departure. A very passive staff person took a long time to get our gear ready, then told us the van would be there at 11:30 for pick up.
We waited a total of at least 2 ½ hours and the staff person was unapologetic and just kept saying the driver wasn’t answering his phone or that he would be there in 5 minutes, 20 minutes.
He didn’t seem to care at all when we said we wanted to cancel the trip. We had things to do that afternoon and couldn’t just wait around half the day for a tardy driver. I think it would have made a difference to me if he had apologized or offered us a discount. My friends decided to accept their offer of a replacement dive plus a free dive, but I just wanted my $ 100 back, which was a drawn-​out process of calling them over and over for the next six weeks before I finally got my refund check. I heard that the replacement dive was on a random hired boat that helped some mechanic whose boat had broken down– which took an hour to bring him back to shore. BEFORE they started diving.
While the manager was consistently polite on the phone, I would never recommend this highly unprofessional company to anyone. What a waste of money, time and effort on my part. BOO.

Outstanding! Was at North Shore snorkeling and was getting to ready to leave when I happened upon John & Brad with the snorkeling sea scooters. Decided to give it a try and was definitely worth it. John was an excellent instructor, friendly, and helpful, as was Brad.
This was affordable, easy, and I highly recommend these guys. You can really tell how much they love diving.
I definitely recommend Ocean Legends and know who I am going to for my next step, scuba!
