Loading Zone is a creative collective in Honolulu Chinatown. Surrounded by a thriving arts, dining, fashion, and entertainment scene, Loading Zone presents exhilarating artistic collaborations and community outreach programs.
History
Established in 2012.
Loading Zone opened in August 2012 in the heart of Honolulu’s Chinatown. The creative venue boasts 1,900 square feet of event space that is also an open loft for unlimited creativity in dance, music, fashion, theater and art.
The concept of the space came about when Linda Kuo of Dancers Unlimited, and artist Chanel Tanaka sat down together one day to manifest for an open and bright venue that would be the «birth place» for creative collaborations and where arts provide newborn meanings for artists and the public.
Loading Zone has since presented daily classes, weekly events, and monthly exhibitions. It is also home to Fringe Oahu, National Dance Week Hawaii and hosts a Performing Artist Residency Program.
Meet the Business Owner
Linda K.
Business Owner
Linda is a graduate of Iolani School. After high school, Linda went to Boston College studying Communications and Economics. Academics aside, Linda also was very active in dance teams and organizations on and off campus. Her passion for dance eventually led her to a professional dance career and performed in New York, L. A, and Asia. After returning the the island for family reasons in 2009, Linda started Dancers Unlimited and offered free or discounted dance classes to youths on Furlough Fridays. The company soon took off and toured in China and performed innovative works all over Hawaii. It further leaves a mark in Hawaii’s dance scene by spearheading National Dance WEek Hawaii (launched in 2010) and hosted an international dance event, Bboy In Shanghai USA Finals.
Loading Zone was started to offer Hawaii artists of all paths the innovative opportunities to perform, showcase, and create, just like what Dancers Unlimited has offered to dancers.
