La Gelateria Italian Style Frozen Desserts

Such great gelato at such great prices. Unique island flavors and all the classics, too. Stop by here twice a month to pick some up for the family at home.

I would have missed this little little shop if I was driving because they had so many trucks picking up their deliveries.
Oh boy, am I glad that my husband found it!!! We tried 1 flavor each… birthday cake ice cream was soooo creamy and the lilikoi sorbet were perfect! And a single scoop is $ 2!!! We finished our scoops and bought 1 of each flavor to go.

I only knew about this place due to auntie Nadine. Thank you auntie!!! When she told me there was a factory gelato place that sells cups of various flavors for two bucks, I said lets goooo!
The place is more like a hole in the wall. I’m glad it had a good sized signage on top of the factory indicating that this was the place:). Parking is incredibly tight, and looking for one is a gamble. There were two plastic tables and chairs outside.
We walked inside where she showed me the freezer stocked with pints, and cups of gelato and sorbet. I scanned all the flavors from side to side and up and down lol. I finally settled on birthday cake. I did wish they had a spumoni cup size. I can’t finish a pint after a large lunch we just had.;)
We paid our two bucks and headed outside to the chairs. Gosh, two bucks for gelato is unheard of here! What a bargain! The gelato is prepackaged so it was hard to scoop up with the wooden spoon. I ended up just licking it as if it was on a cone. It was very sweet, creamy, and cold. I honestly could not finish it. I had a huge intake of sweets in a matter of an hour lol. I’ll be back with a cooler to stock up!

I came to La Gelateria with Nadine C. to try out the refreshing desserts. I am so glad that I did!
La Gelateria was easy to find. (I did use my Waze app on my phone.) It is located near Walmart in town. It is on a one way street heading toward the ocean. The factory and the parking lot is on your left. The parking lot has about 10 stalls (not exact) and it shares it with the other businesses in the 2-​story structure. The entrance is on the bottom floor to the left when facing the building.
I was able to get a stall. Aunty Nadine was not so lucky. There is street parking, but you may have to drive around a while.
We entered and it is a small room. There is no counter or sales person hanging out. When you come in, someone in the back comes up front to ring you up. The worker that was our cashier made his recommendations and waited patiently as we tried to decide what to get. There is a display freezer and the prices and sizes are written on the see-​thru doors. You peruse to see the flavors. The sorbet is on the left of the case. The gelato on the right. The cups are $ 2 and pints are $ 4. There was a special for $ 2 pints, only certain flavors.
I started looking at the various flavors, and it was hard to choose. I wanted to get more than one, but reality hit and I knew I couldn’t eat more than one after the lunch we just had. Strawberry seemed to be the one, so I paid the man. Aunty Nadine decided on Black Sesame. The wooden spoons and napkins are on a table near the entrance, so we grabbed and walked out.
There are 2 tables with chairs outside of the door. There are even 2 umbrellas to block out the sun. Then it started to drizzle and I found out that those umbrellas can block the rain out, too!
I started eating my Strawberry sorbet ASAP! It wasn’t hard to scoop. The flavor was definitely strawberry. When I say that, i mean that sometimes, you get strawberry ‘flavor’, but this was all strawberry. It was sweet and refreshing! The size of my cup was definitely enough. I wanted to try more of their inventory, but there was no way my stomach was allowing it.
Aside from the parking situation, I definitely think a lot more people should come down. The service was great and the gelato excellent! You can’t beat the prices either. It’s a great way to try out new flavors! I can’t wait to come back!

Okay so last year I got lost in the area during night time looking for a Japanese Resturant and Found this secret gem!!! Gelato!!! They’re open during the day so decided to go back during their business hours. I tried 1 pint of green tea gelato and decided this is my to go place!!!
They have a huge variety of flavors that I absolutely love which comes in different sizes: cup, pint, and gallon tub! If you guys are coming here for only a particular flavor I would call ahead of time to make sure they have it if not just be like me try something different or purchase your next favorite flavor. Employees are helpful and friendly! The prices are very affordable! Parking space is small, there’s comfortable seating area outside with umbrella and tables. I absolutely love coming here!

Mmmmm! Love the frozen gelato and sorbets from La Gelateria! Reading about the history of how La Gelateria came about in Hawaii sure makes it even more authentic! haha.
Brief overview, this is the factory that sells the gelato by the pint of small cups, there is no server there that will scoop your ice cream for you. If you want the gelato service you will need to go to Ala Moana Nordstrom Gelato bar for it.
My favorite flavors have been green tea, black sesame, lilikoi and li hing pineapple.
My only downside to this place is that it is not open on weekends, which can also be a good thing since it limits me on how much gelato I can eat! haha.

You know this place is a legit gelato place when Punahou serves it. My children go to Punahou and they rave about their gelato! I have tried their gelato and I have to say mac nut, mango, green tea, birthday cake, coffee, and vanilla bean are my favorite! Double thumbs up for this place and I will for sure try this place again! Best gelato place on Hawaii.

Since I was in town today, and came across this place I decided to go and check it out before I left to go back to Mililani.
I walked in and didn’t really realize that it was the actual place where they make the product. They have a freezer case that has the gelato on one side and the sorbet on the other. They had so many different flavors of sorbet and gelato.
Actually finding a place that sells a vegan dessert other than natural food stores is such a plus for me. Even better was the price…$ 4 for a pint!!!
I ended up buying two, lychee and coconut!

Ever since I fell head over heels for birthday cake gelato at Nordstrom, I had to have it. I want to pretend every day is my birthday so I can eat a pint, or two, or three of this deliciousness and scream «get in my belllllllllllly, baby!!!»
One day I discovered La Gelateria, a local company, made the gelato and was happy to see that it was a 5 minutes drive from my work. ZOMG so damn deadly.
La Gelateria is located off Cedar, a side street near Walmart. Parking can be difficult as it’s in a residential area and there’s about 8 stalls in their lot. But don’t let the parking situation get the best of you. Seriously, park at a metered stall near Walmart and walk over. Shed a few calories and then eat them back up!
La Gelateria’s location is actually their factory and you can purchase their pints at about 5 bucks or an individual serving of gelato or sorbetto for 2 bucks. There are tons of flavors such as azuki bean, birthday cake, dragon fruit, coffee, gianduia, pistachio, etc. Cash only though so come prepared.

Good gelato. Bad hours. Mediocre parking.

Nothing fancy and yummy gelato!
Stopped here yesterday to take my niece and grand nephew for gelato. I’ve enjoyed their gelato at restaurants so decided to come here… lots of yummy flavors, but I still think my favorite is the Kona Coffee… I did try the espresso thinking it might be a stronger coffee flavor, but I think it was milder.
Only wish they had better parking accommodations and cones!

That’s what happened one day when fellow Unilocaler, Paul, had some free time between hiking Koko Head (like a maniac) and work (like a speeding bullet). I followed him by car to an industrial-​looking part of Honolulu which turned out to be a hidden factory of GELATO and SORBETTO! YUM! Just drive down King Street (it’s one-​way), and turn right on Cedar Street. The shop will be on the left. There’s free parking right in the front.
When you enter through the doors, there’s a large double-​doored freezer with pre-​packed treats of differing sizes to your immediate right. The receptionist’s desk is right there, and that’s where you’ll pay. It’s $ 2 per cup, tax included, and $ 4 (sorbetto), $ 5 (gelato) & $ 6 (deluxe gelato) a pint! Cash only. No frills. Either eat outside at the table and chairs, or take home. I did both.
I tried the Gianduia (chocolate hazelnut), Black Sesame, Lilikoi, Lychee, Mango, Coconut Pineapple, Spumoni, and Pecan Praline. All of them are delicious in their own way! Please do not ask me which flavor is my favorite. It’s like choosing a best friend — I’m unable to do that! Every flavor (or friend) is special in their own way. They’re ALL good!

No frills gelato shop.
Some parking is available in front of the store but watch for signs. Parking is also shared with the residential community in the area. Upon entering, you will immediately notice a big kitchen in the back. That’s where the magic happens. Once inside, you will see a freezer to your right with lots of pre-​packed gelato and sorbet. It’s all labeled. Plenty of different unique flavor options. The gelato and sorbet were smooth, creamy, and flavorful. There is little seating outside, but it’s primarily a grab and go type joint. Service was quick and direct. Grab your cool treat, hand them your money, and be on your merry way.

Yet another «hidden gem» in the middle of Makiki, amongst residential homes that I would have never stumbled upon without the help of Unilocal and all my Unilocaly friends! When Le Gelataria kept showing up in my friend feed, I knew I had to go and check it out!
This is a no-​frills, no-​ambiance, yet no-​kidding Gelato establishment. They may not be cute and fancy like the beloved Via Gelato, but La Gelateria makes great gelato, and at $ 2 per cup, not only is your mouth and tummy happy but so is your wallet!
The first time I visited La Gelateria, I felt out of sorts, awkward and insecure about what to do, since it’s not your normal gelato/​ice cream shop. But because you all are my Unilocaly friends, and this place is worth a visit, I’m going to give you some tips so that you can go and get that gelato with confidence! So pay close attention, as this is how you should experience La Gelateria.
1) Located on Cedar St, somewhere between King and Kapiolani, Pensacola and Keeaumoku. Drive around the streets somewhere in this vicinity a few times, until you finally find Cedar St. and discover you are going the wrong way down this one way street.
2) Reverse and thank God that no one is there to see you driving down the road the wrong way, go around the block and until you find Cedar St. again and drive legally going the right way, only to discover that La Gelateria is now BEHIND you.
3)Drive around the blocks once again and go down Cedar without overshooting this time.
4) Find the very small parking lot with Cedar Street Galleries and La Gelateria (it will be on your left).
5) Find a stall in the SHADE and park (this is a very important step). Let me repeat: find the stall under the tree and park in the SHADE.
6) Go ahead, don’t be shy, walk right on in (even though it looks like just a place of business rather than a place that’s open to the public). You will enter the very small space with a huge refrigerator on your right with cups upon cups of gelato and sorbet of endless flavors, for only $ 2 each (tax included)! It’s easy to get carried away with choosing lots of different flavors so choose wisely or you will end up paying more than you expected. (Tip: go for the Giandiya, a mix of chocolate and hazelnut, I always get this one amongst the mix.)
7) Open the refrigerator and self serve.
8) Pay whoever is sitting at the desk (or call for someone if no one is there) and don’t forget to grab your wooden spoon on the way out.
9) When you step outside, you will see that there are 2 tables, which might either both be occupied, or if empty, is directly in the HOT SUN. But lucky for you, you can go back to your car (which was carefully parked in the SHADE — see, I told you step #5 was important) and DEVOUR your gelato and savor every bite without having your gelato melt away in the direct hot sun!
Now aren’t you happy you read through all the steps, especially #5? Now you can go and enjoy La Gelateria gelato for yourself, and experience it confidently even on your very first visit (unlike me). But just don’t go on the same day and time as me so that we don’t have to fight over the shaded parking, ok? ;)

La Gelateria Italian Style Frozen Desserts — You may have had their gelato or sorbetto in restaurants, this is their brick and mortar production and distribution center. Call ahead to order a specific flavor or ice cream cake, or show up and grab and go from the case. Take out only. There is no service, no credit cards – cash or check only – and no place to relax, just 4 outdoor seats off the parking lot.
Best value are the Pints. If you can agree on a flavor, grab a Pint and share. For variety go for the 3 oz cups, just $ 2 each, it’s almost too easy to get a bunch of flavors.
They’re know for their Gianduia, a deeply chocolaty, hazel nutty, hint of cinnamon gelato. Also amazing is the Roasted Fig if you’re lucky enough to find it, mouth-​watering and indulgent.
Let your gelato sit for a few minutes at room temperature before you dig in. The flavor will be better and it won’t be so rock solid, enjoy!

La Gelateria has some of the best gelato on the island. They have so many flavors such as cookies and cream, Kona coffee, bacon maple, red velvet, black sesame, pistachio, and many more. They also have sorbets like guava, mango, and lychee. They regularly rotate flavors based on what orders they have from their vendors. Pints are $ 5 which is a steal for the quality of the gelato. They also have small cups for $ 2, but might as well just go with the pints haha.
The only issue is that it is not a sit-​down store; it’s their actual factory where they sell their gelato from a fridge. So unfortunately you can’t visit here on a Friday night after dinner as they are only open on weekdays and closes by 5pm.
I love the gelato at La Gelateria as it’s some of the creamiest and most flavorful I’ve had. Because of the hours of operation, just leave work a little early and take home 1 or 2 or 3 pints and you’ll be good to go for the weekend haha.

Wooo! No longer do I have to feel ridiculous paying for a $ 4 scoop of ice cream at Kahala Mall. La Gelateria has their factory near Ala Moana, by meadow gold, if you know where that is! So convenient (and cheap!)! This is where they make their gelato I’m guessing, there are a couple display freezers and a lady doing office work nearby (just choose your flavor and size and pay her!) and the warehouse in the back.
They sell serving size gelato and sorbeto as well as pint size. The serving size is perfect for a sweet afternoon treat, especially when you’ve been walking around in the hot sun trying to find their little store front. Serving size containers are only $ 2! Just make sure you pick up a wooden spoon on your way out. The pint sizes are $ 4, $ 5 or $ 6, and I think I saw some pints on special for only $ 2! The flavors are awesome: yuzu, lilikoi, mango/​guava, black sesame… the list goes on and on.
This is not a café or restaurant. There are a few chairs outside, but I usually take mine to-​go. It’s a little difficult to find and their shared parking lot is a little small, but it’s worth it, especially if you’re craving good ice cream/​gelato/​sorbet.

This place is like a store front to a factory. So basically when you walk in, there are two freezers that you pick out what you want. One is with dairy, and the other is non-​dairy (I think.)
The place don’t look too sanitary… pretty run down.
I ended up getting vanilla, ice cream cake flavor, and strawberry. The vanilla and ice cream cake was ok. (The ice cream cake flavor one melted really fast.) The strawberry was good, so if I go back, I’d get the strawberry.

I’ve had La Gelateria gelatos at different restaurants, but I don’t know why it never occurred to me to buy it from the actual shop. Silly me.
Their store isn’t a sit down type of café; it’s more of a buy and leave shop, unless you want to sit on the chairs outside. So keep that in mind. If you live far, you may need to bring a cooler with you, in case the frozen treats start to melt on your commute home.
There’s a giant fridge with a stockpile of frozen desserts. Mainly gelatos and sorbettos. Ooodles of different flavors like black sesame, birthday cake, macadamia nut, etc. Along with that, heaps of fruit type sorbetto such as lychee, mango, pineapple, dragon fruit, lilikoi, and more.
Every flavor that I’ve had so far has been amazing! Extremely refreshing, smooth in texture with lots of flavor and it’s not too icy. Truly can’t be missed, if you love gelato!

The first time I stopped by La Gelateria, I had to walk away empty-​handed. They only accept cash or check, and without any ATMs or banks conveniently located nearby, I sadly left and vowed to return soon. 3 days later I did!
There are soooooo many options to choose from, it’s hard to decide! They have small individual cups for $ 2 and pints ranging from $ 4 (sorbet) to $ 6 (deluxe gelatto). Since my friend and I were bringing some back to the office to share, we selected a pint of crowd-​pleasing Gianduia (Chocolate + Hazelnut). The gelato was so creamy and rich and it tasted just like Nutella! I had my eye on the Black Sesame Seed, but I guess I will be going back soon to try it out!
La Gelateria is a small little storefront. When you enter, the refrigerator cases are immediately to your right. There are two or three tables outside that you can eat at, but it seems more like a pick-​up-​and-​go kind of place. There are about 6 stalls in the small parking lot, but it is shared by the other shops so you may have difficulty finding a free stall. Street parking is almost non-​existent unless you’re one of those lucky few. If it weren’t for the inconvenient location and limited parking, I’m sure I would be back much more often.
