Fresh produce, great prices. Also, good ready made korean food.

I LOVE this place. I drive over from work downtown at least once a week to stock up on banchan, frozen mandoo, kimchee and their delicious beef and cabbage soup. This store is easy to miss if you are not in the know – the sign outside only says«Fresh eggs/papaya». I have never even bought eggs or papaya there because I am so busy staring at the delicious kimchee! Both the man and woman are super duper nice and friendly. Even though I am not Korean, they are really patient and answer all my questions and remember what I like. The other day, I asked, «Is this chwinamul?» «No.» «WHAT? It looks like it.» «Yes, but its not the mountain vegetable you like. This is the one you like.» My favorites: seasoned perilla leaves, fern bracken, chwinamul, garlic stem kimchee(sometimes it’s old and tough so look out), dried daikon kimchee. Sorry, I don’t know the Korean words for them. All their banchan is really good. And if you want a smaller size, they will make one for you. Prices are reasonable too. If they have the beef and cabbage soup, you should get it. The flavor is so good and they use daikon leaves in addition to the cabbage – very nutritious. I’m not a fan of their soon du bu; its too mild. They also have a ready-to-cook soup in the fridge with the banchan. I don’t know what its called but it has pork bone, potatoes, cabbage and perilla leaves. Throw it in a pot at home and you’ll have soup in no time! Always check the counter by the cash register for the special dish of the day. The other day I had the chive and perilla leaf jun and it was delicious!

This place is a hidden gem and where we enjoy buying a variety of banchan. Yet, the main reason I love coming here is the freshly homemade mandoo. They make it fresh on Thursday’s and it’s the best on the island, in my opinion. They have an assortment of prepared dishes as well and they do catering too! We’ve ordered their pans of mandoo and chop chae for our gatherings, which makes it easy for me. They also carry the freshest eggs and rainbow papaya ’ s here. The prices are reasonable and the staff super friendly. So if you’re in the area, stop by and check it out yourself.

We stopped in here to see a new Korean supermarket that popped up. This market is quite small and has some produce. Selection is limited, so if you choose to find a variety of things, then head to Palama Supermarket. We only stopped in to buy some man doo skin and some other items to make dumplings for dinner for my dear parents. Aisles and shelves are completely stocked from the gochijang to their produce and vegetables. They also have some fish and meats available as well. This place also has Chocohodo bakery. They are known for the red bean little pastry donut things. This is the first time I had these and they are delish. We bought a medium box for us to eat. YUM!

For fresh egg lovers! $ 2.85 for a dozen. You can find it behind GOSHIGO. The parking is behind goshigo, it is free in the morning, afternoon parking might be a challenge. Go there in the morning. There are many other items as well, Kimchee, pickled garlics… PS. You CAN park in front of the store when the traffic is not heavy.

Fresh Eggs! Fresh Eggs! The eggs literally plopped out of the chicken that morning or the day before. This place is hidden, but you can find it off Keeaumoku and Liona Street, the same parking as Go Shi Go, Salon Giltter and Orine. In addition to eggs, there is to-go Korean vegetables(huge tub of Kim Chee for $ 5), prepared Korean foods and also papaya. But the real show here is the fresh eggs. Who knows how old the Mainland brand or even Ka Lei eggs are at your local supermarket, this is where you go to make sure you get fresh eggs. Especially for you Japanese that crack a raw egg over your rice in the morning, the fresher is always better. Cost is just $ 2.85 for a dozen jumbo eggs. Not bad at all, but it does add an extra trip of grocery duties each week once you get addicted to know that you can get fresh eggs at Keeaumoku Produce.

It’s prolly more like 3.5 because it’s hit and miss. This is in the parking lot behind Goshigo Noodles(see my review) and across the street from Maui Divers main office. This is where you can get panchon in bulk. Each time you go it’s not certain you will find what you want, but there is enough variety to satisfy you somehow. They always have chap-chae(long rice), fish jun and of course hoards and hoards of kimchi. If you crave authentic kimchi, you cannot go to Times, Foodland or Star Market(Safeway? don’t even go there) for that. Halms and that other watered down crap? Goodness, I want to spit that thing out. You will either have to go to a Korean restaurant(even lunch plate places like Sam’s and Gina’s have fresh, quality kimchi) or to Palama Market. But the alternative is to go to Keeamoku Produce for your panchon deli. They sell medium sized(not the small ones like Halms) plastic jars of kim-chi, kak-do-gee(radish kimchi) and other kinds of kimchi for $ 9 per jar. They sell the gigantic ones that look like those Enjoy holiday gift snack jars full of mochi crackers, but I didn’t check the price on that. Anyway, that’s a deal considering the weak supermarket kimchi in those small jars costs like $ 3. If you like panchon and like it prepackaged, ready to go, at a reasonable price(each panchon try is about $ 6 and it’s good sized), then go there. Voila, instant sides to your rice and poke.
