We really worked up an appetite walking all over the zoo and I was getting worried when all we saw were drink stands and snack bars. Kapahulu market had a lot more to offer. Prices were expectedly high and the food was ok. I had the Kapahulu burger, which was good, everything else was just ok. Another fun thing about eating near the market is that there are a lot of pigeons and peacocks around to harass you while you eat. Its also right next to a large playground, get for wearing out the kids.

The Kapahulu Market is an outside café/food court located inside the zoo. I didn’t have high expectations for food served at the zoo, so maybe that’s why I was blown away when I first tried their $ 11.95 Kapahulu Burger(char-broiled all beef patty topped with smoked mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, crispy fried onion rings and fresh herb sauce/mayo)! Ohhh maaai gaad, this burger is the BOMB! It was like eating a gourmet burger in a very casual atmosphere(aka zoo). Yes, it’s the most expensive item on the menu, but it is soooo delish! I don’t know how the other foods on the menu taste because I can’t get enough of the Kapahulu Burger and end up getting that every time I visit the zoo, but if I ever get tired of the burger, I’ll try one of the other items & let you know… They’ve got their usual selection of pricy beverages, but buy the Honolulu Zoo swirly cup for $ 9& some change, and it’s FREEREFILLSALLDAY! How can you NOT be happy?! It looks very skinny, but it surprisingly holds 16 oz. You’ve got your pick of icees and regular fountain drinks, but I think it’s so worth it to go with the swirly cup. I probably went back and had 8 different drink refills today since it was very hot today. And if you’re an annual pass holder like me, be sure to show the cashier your pass for the 10% off your bill.

Like I said a couple of days ago, nearly 9 dead Washingtons for 2 sodas? More choice descriptions of this excuse of a concession: Should be named Consolidated Concession. &%^$%$# 9 dollars for 2 sodas, and what, no movie with that? Seem like I can’t let my teeth out of this one! Still trying to shake the fleas off of this one! Lug your own water dish to this one!

Exactly what it says: Concession. I really don’t expect more, especially from a Zoo.

Ehh I enjoy the actual zoo exhibits, but the concession prices blew a hole in my credit card.

It is a boring zoo. Animals are all sleeping except tigers. You only need to spend max 2 hours to finish the zoo. I think it worths $ 6 entrance fees instead of $ 12

If you are expecting anything more than mediocre at a zoo concession stand then don’t come here. It’s just okay and nothing more. Pack a lunch and bring it with you. If you don’t heed my warnings and decide to go to the concession stand at least get a cola Icee, it’s the best thing on the menu. Shave Ice — Not shaved, crushed. Don’t buy it. Nuff said. Food — Typical junk food. Frozen pizzas, spam musubi, sandwiches and the like. Drinks — Soda, water, Icee machine Seating — Plenty. Picnic tables with umbrellas, a good place to rest. Service — Sweet people. The zoo staff is always wonderful. Watch out for the bold peacocks, they will walk right up to you and demand a bite of your food.
