Located on School Street, where Mitsu Ken used to be located, K&K Kitchen is a small take-out place that also caters. The prices are reasonable and the portions are good. I enjoyed the mini shrimp curry with one scoop of rice and one scoop of mac salad. There were 5 large shrimp, nicely cooked, not overdone, with potatoes, onion, and carrots. It was tasty and satisfying. Looking forward to trying other dishes on my next visit.

This place is only for take out orders and catering. Their food is tasty and good portions. I had the hamburger steak with gravy. The hamburger patties are home-made! Very good! Service is good, finding parking is hard, street parking.

Good prices and good service. The chicken Katsu was probably my favorite. Just your typical hole in the wall plate lunch deal.

The service is really good. Prices are reasonable. The place looks clean and menu is easy to read. I would eat there again. They have $ 1.99 breakfast with one scoop rice, one egg, and choice of meat. Great deal. The $ 3.50 breakfast had two eggs, two rice, and choice of meat. Also have some cheap plates like the garlic chicken plate for $ 6, and noodles w/4 pork hash for only $ 5! Parking sucks but they have street parking if you go early. I had the mini fish katsu $ 6. The fish was so moist and it had a crispy katsu crust. My boyfriend who doesn’t like fish even liked it. Two other plates was the 1.99 breakfast, and the $ 3.50 breakfast plate. Lots of Chinese food and local favorites. Pretty good for a hole in the wall.

I’ve only been here once early morning, like 6ish. No line of course. Lady at cashier was very nice, but our food did take a bit to be made tho we were the only customers. We ordered the pork hash, and as the lady handed it over to us, she seemed to be so excited about her homemade sauce for it. It was good, but I had better. It tasted just of shoyu with a little spice to it. And pork hash were pretty small. Instead of getting the $ 4 breakfast, we wanted to be a little more cheaper: p and get the $ 2 something breakfast, which came with eggs, rice, and ONE choice of meat. To my surprise, they really took this ONE choice of meat literally. At other places, one choice of meat means you get more than one piece of that meat, like 2 pieces of bacon or 3 pieces of Portuguese sausage. That’s how it usually is right?! But nope. Not here. I got literally ONE piece of bacon and my friend got ONE piece of Portuguese sausage. But I guess you get what you pay for –_– and they give waaaay too much rice. Food was ok, and I don’t mind coming back to give this place another chance. I just won’t get the $ 2 something breakfast plate.

I think this place will b more known for their breakfast… u cant beat $ 4 breakfast plate that has 2eggs with rice AND bacon AND spam AND portuguese sausage… theres also a lot of different other breakfast choices that r ridiculously cheap… i highly recommend that u make a phone order instead of standing in line cause i noticed they don’t make it til u order it so it’ll take a little bit… the garlic chicken is pretty winners too but thats $ 6…it’ll never replace mitsukens but its still pretty good if u cant get a mitsukens plate cause of the crazy line that they have… besides mitsukens fried rice is great but greasy, these guys rice isn’t so greasy AND packed with a lot of meats on top of your other choices… this place is where the old mitsukens used to b… so that means crappy parking lol

After I landed in Honolulu, my friend told me to tried Mitsu-Ken. I went to this location and was like… hmmmm the sign is different but they have garlic chicken. So I ordered the garlic chicken and garlic shrimp and I was impressed. Seriously, I went to Mitsu-Ken new location the next day, my boyfriend and I agreed the garlic chicken was better at K&K Kitchen. Maybe Mitsu-Ken chicken was made in big batches due to catering and K & K and made fresh to order, but K & K chicken was definitely better.

This is the place that replaced Mitsuken after Mitsuken moved to a better location on North King Street and K & K Kitchen took its place. I had not noticed the change till I received a pamphlet at work for their catering services /menu and I’m like, where is this place? And my co workers told me. For a while, we got catering for various work functions here and I didn’t notice till they told me. Basically we got party platters here, but for once, I needed to check this place out for myself just for the plate lunch experience and see if this place was all that. Needless to say that the current rating was just a reminder how this place is. While it can’t replicate or replace Mitsuken, the experience was forgettable. Guess you wonder why Mitsuken wanted out of there. While popular, they just had to move. K & K Kitchen tries to serve up something similar to what Mitsuken had been for so many decades, but I just felt like it just lacked a certain something. K & K Kitchen is located on North School Street, near Helena’s Hawaiian Food, in between Palama and Houghtailing Streets in the heart of Kalihi. There’s not much in the way of parking, so street parking nearby would be most helpful. Or if you are like me, bus routes #1L, 2, and 2L rumble through here at your service. The prices here are average for plate lunches, although I can say honesty that I have had better. The service could be better, since I did wait a considerable 15 minutes before receiving my order. The lady at the counter was a bit rude, but I let it slide. The previous times, I was with a co worker, so she got the direct blow to the head from K & K Kitchen personnel. I doubt that I would eat here personally again, but I don’t care if my department orders food from here, just because it’s ridiculously close to where I work. Possibly why we keep going back, but I wouldn’t go, unless prodded. On this day, I got the barbecue chicken plate. I guess that’s standard. You can’t mess up barbecue chicken, can you? Apparently you can. Part of it was well done burnt, and the other pieces were moist, but dry at the same time. Tasted like rubber and the rice was warm, but had some hard kernels in some spots. I opted for 2 scoops of white rice instead of the macaroni salad, but then again, who am I to judge. The feeling of rubbery beef in my mouth lingered in my mouth and settled in my stomach like it was just another something that can be eaten and forgotten at the same time. Sometimes, I regret coming here, but that’s how it goes. Lesson earned. I have had better, but this place needs to improve if it wants to thrive in the community. While Mitsuken has moved on to a better place in Kalihi, K & K Kitchen is here to stay right now and I can say that if you try this, be cautious. Maybe it was an off day, I don’t know. Who knows really. I probably won’t be back, since there’s a plethora of restaurants in Kalihi and Liliha street I can get to on a daily basis. Sorry K & K Kitchen, you do not rock my socks. Maybe later. Support local! C–

No one there and guy did not take my order and lady in back of me orders a spam musician which she had to wait 15 minutes for. ans I asked if he was taking my order after waiting 15 minutes. Three groups of people got their order and I asked for my money back. He didn’t give me and large group before me were taking drinks from refrigerator, which they did not pay. He asked me for my order which again I said brown rice and there was none. Waiting over half an hour I told three groups of people it’s going yo take long cause we were still waiting for our food and there was only two orders out. Food was salty and fried rice didn’t have much on it. And I have been having runs all night long.
