Is there a course in dentistry that teaches dentists how to understand their patients? Here’s a recent conversation while the doctor had his fingers in my mouth.
Dr.: How are you today?
Me: ayne
Dr.: How old is your daughter now?
Me: ai – hee
Dr.: Nineteen, huh? Where is she going to college?
Me: oo ah eh hee hee uh ahn heee eh oh
Dr.: Ahhh University of San Diego! Good school! What’s she majoring in?
Me: ubh hol ay-​or, eee eh ah anh an ih
Dr. Ito: Oh, double major, eh? Business and Spanish. Good for her!
Dr. Ito is a fantastic dentist with a jovial manner. He really looks out for you and doesn’t recommend unnecessary procedures just so that he can make his Mercedes payment. JK! I don’t know if he owns a Mercedes. His office staff are terrific too. They always have the gas (nitrous) fired up and ready for me when I come in for teeth cleaning. I like the freebie toothbrush, toothpaste and travel size dental floss that he gives out after the cleaning.
