History

Established in 1980.

Hungry Ear Records was founded in 1980 by three friends, Luke Yamashiro, Dennis Chun and Reynold Yep, all with a common love for music. The Kailua store quickly became a landmark for lovers of all musical styles and formats. Sadly, Luke passed away in 2005, but his spirit and the store live on, enriching the community.

In 2008, former Hungry Ear employees Ward Yamashita and Dennie Chong returned to run the store. Not only do they bring years of experience in the industry, but also years of collecting music. Hungry Ear Records continues to provide great customer service, selection, and shopping experience to locals and visitors.
