History

Established in 1946.

Four Higa generations and 65 years after its humble beginnings near the gateway of Chinatown Higa Meat & Pork Market is now Higa Foodservice, with state-wide distribution. Its founder, Yeiko Higa, came from Japan to work on the plantations, but in 1938 he seized the opportunity to work for a Chinatown meat market owned by the Ahoy family. Then in 1946, he realized a dream when he purchased the business from Ahoy. Thus began Mr. Higas legacy

.The open-air market is now a nostalgic memory. We have moved from the original Chinatown location to a modern USDA approved facility nearby on Nimitz. Having enhanced its product line and services, Higa Foodservice continues its time honored practice of strengthening customer relationships. We continue to strive to be the premier distribution company in Hawaii known for quality products and services with a family-friendly attitude.
