I’d just gotten out of a couple free classes at the Royal Hawaiian Center and had very narrowly missed the lei-making class(sigh), so I decided to get myself some lunch because my tummy was rumbling. I remembered Unilocaling this place and was wandering over when someone asked me if I was lost.(I guess I was wandering a little too aimlessly.) He told me this was located inside Food Pantry and gave me clearer instructions than my phone.(Whatta good soul!) I decided to get the special of the day, which was a ground sirloin steak curry bowl for $ 6.99 + tax. Twas delicious! Super hot(in temperature, not in spiciness), but it definitely filled me up! I liked that they gave me a choice between white or brown rice with no extra cost too! :] Service was fast and friendly! :] P. S. They take your order on the left side of the counter and then ring you up on the wayyy right!

It’s been a three years since I first time came there. I still love this small corner of steak. Steak plate and dip sandwich are my favorite. My husband looove steak salad. Stuff very patient and nice, friendly. Try steak plate with garlic butter sauce and dip sandwich with horse radish.

It’s a good deal for what you get in touristy Waikiki. Pretty delicious too. We got the steak and shrimp with chimmichurri sauce. Unfortunately I got sick after(from the shrimp) my husband ate the steak and he was fine. Kinda disappointed I like it how they sell Bubbies mochi ice cream too.

Look, I’m only in Waikiki for 3 days on holidays and I’ve been here twice. Had a steak plate and a steak and chicken plate. Both excellent. The steak is perfectly grilled(mediun to rare) and the chicken is super succulent. Two serves of rice, a bit of salad to keep it a bit healthy. Then choose from 5 different sauces(teriyaki, chimichurri, kim chi, garlic butter or horseradish) to dress your steak. The staff are friendly and used my name each time as I moved down the counter. Food seems to be priced reasonably for what it is — it’s fast food, it’s cooked pretty fresh, serves are enough for a normal dinner. Will tell anyone I know who visits to swing by if they’re in the area.

I have updated my review today after having positive experiences since my less than stellar experience the other night. The people at the place is good and the food is tasty. It’s also a good deal for Waikiki. I have been making it my usual dinner place and lunch place during the weekends. The less than stellar review which I basically removed was due to feeling like I was invisible while at the order part of the counter. Fortunately, that night the guy was working while three ladies were talking story. I usually get the chicken plate with brown rice and salad. One day I decided to do all salad and no rice for an additional $ 1. I was a bit disappointed in the additional salad provided but whatever. When I get bored with the chicken I will the do the combo chicken and steak. To the owner: ensure your employees understand that you shouldn’t make a customer wait while they are talking story to each other. At least they should acknowledge the customers presence by saying«We will be right with you». I contemplated just walking away. However, that was one experience out of five so it was just a one off I hope. I will be back and recommend this place for a quick, relatively healthy and well-priced meal in Waikiki.

Recently spent a week in Honolulu, I was so excited to try different plate lunches and eateries. But I’m not ashamed to say I went to Hi Steaks 3 nights in a row. It was just THAT good. Perfect medium-rare steak, awesome potato salad, perfectly-cooked rice, and several tasty sauces to choose from. I found this place totally by accident — I stopped by the grocery store to pick a few things up, and discovered the Hi Steaks counter on my way out. I’m back in Canada now and craving Hi Steaks so bad. I really wish I’d bought some of their steak spice rub to take with me. :-(

Hi Steaks is located in a small food court area in the middle of Waikiki. The employees here are very nice, but will try to upsell you with drinks, desserts, etc. It is a bit pricey in my opinion(but it’s in the middle of Waikiki, so what do you expect), and will likely run you over $ 10. I ordered the steak and chicken plate with garlic butter sauce. The steak was pretty good with the garlic butter sauce, although I wish it could have been a bit juicier. The vinaigrette in the salad was very strong, and once you get to the bottom of the salad where all the dressing has settled, the bite gets really strong. I didn’t finish the salad because the dressing was just too strong. I would say the chicken is the star of this plate. It doesn’t have anything distinct about it, but just tastes delicious. Cooked well, it’s juicy, very soft and tender, and a good solid flavor. Would I recommend this place? Well, I wouldn’t come back here. It’s good, if it has what you’re looking for, but for the price, I’d rather go somewhere else.

Came here today on our first day here in Hawaii since its walking distance from our Hotel(Hyatt Regency Waikiki). Its located in a market place right next to Coffee Bean. We got the Loco Moco with rice and some fries. It was really good, probably one the best loco mocos I had. This place is more on to-go orders since theres only few small tables inside which I think is sharing with coffee bean. Theres few small tables inside the store were you can sit. But we took it for to go. The service was good, staff was nice and friendly. Price was okay, paid $ 23 I think for 2 combos with drinks. Will probably come back if we get a chance!

After consulting Unilocal I knew we had to try this place, we were looking for something casual since we had our rambunctious toddler in tow. My husband was a little confused as to why we’re in a grocery store to eat dinner, I explained to him that I read some great reviews so he said he would trust my judgment. There was a little bit of wait, but that just reinforced the positive reviews because why would there be a line if it wasn’t a good establishment right?! Well unfortunately I was wrong. The Pros: Decently priced food Cafeteria style choices Seating in grocery store The Cons: The Chicken was more fatty than meat The steak was way too undercooked The shrimp was covered in butter which prevented it from being peeled properly for consumption ****spent the entire night throwing up for dear life**** and the next day in bed trying to recover from what they served us up here. Maybe we just got unlucky or maybe they are getting careless because of the hype they are receiving-either way I would pass scratch that RUN from this place! Never again.

Located inside of a grocery store, right across from the coffee bean. It’s a fast food place, but the price and flavor was on point. We got the original steak combo for $ 12. You get rice, potato salad and a good size portion of steak. You really can’t beat that price! If you’re looking for something quick and good, come here! Also their mochi was pretty good. I recommend the pistachio.

The long lines signal something good. Not to be disappointed, Hi Steaks, not to be confused with Hy Steaks, is a great meal for $ 12! They cooked my sirloin to order. So easy to cut with a plastic knife, my bento was just right. After a evening of uncountable happy hours, Hi Steaks carry out was a marvelous end to devour in my hotel room!

I was gonna order a steak sandwich as I wasn’t that hungry but they run outta bread! :/So i ended up ordering a steak chili bowl which was okay. I immediately regret not getting their steak dishes. Their steak dishes look bomb. They chopped up a whole filet of steak for each dish. Will def try that next time. Location: located inside a foodcourt next to coffee bean and outside of an asian supermarket.

This restaurant is a fast food joint. It’s quick, simple and easy. Unfortunately their steaks are too overcooked for me. It makes them very chewy and not very tasty. I did like that they had multiple sauces available for you to choose from: 1. Teriyaki Sauce 2. Chimichurri Sauce 3. Kim Chee 4. Horseradish 5. Garlic Butter I requested for garlic butter and chimichurri sauce. Make sure you get the garlic butter in a plastic container and not on top of your steak because by the time I ate the steak, the butter had already melted into a small section and I had no more garlic butter to spread on my other steaks. The chimichurri sauce was decent. Light flavor, not strong. Instead of rice, I got french fries, and I can at least say that they gave me a large amount of french fries and they were delicious. Their french fries were thin cut and super crispy. I would rather just eat the fries than the steak.

Not bad for what it is. It’s located inside the grocery store. I ordered the steak plate with chimichurri sauce. There are several different choices for meats and sauce. It’s fast food, but slightly better than typical fast food chains. Not much seating area. They also have mochi ice cream!

Really average food. The steak is cooked with a nice pink color inside and the chicken is comparable to any other chicken you might get at another bbq/teriyaki/hawaiian joint. It’s fine food to get at a fast food place, but I think I’d skip it next time I’m in the area. I got the chicken and steak plate and the chicken was fatty and had a lot of mushy skin. They weigh the meat, and seeing how much skin & fat was a part of the chicken piece the server gave me, I felt cheated. On the plus side, their sauce choices are good, but the amount that they give you isn’t enough.

Where in this world can one get a perfectly satisfactory steak dinner for $ 11? Well, to find such an amazing place that true foodies dream of, the place to find said steak would be at a restaurant that is owned by a cattle farmer or a place that effectively cuts out a middle man. In this case, Hi Steaks is actually owned by Foodland and located within the Food Pantry(owned by Foodland) and next to the Coffee Bean Tea Leaf(run by Foodland) in Waikiki. Do you know what the Hi Steaks restaurant pays for in rent?(They’re located within the grocery store, so effectively, nothing). Do you know what this restaurant pays in food cost?(Probably a lot less than any other restaurant as they simply cherry pick Foodland’s access to good meats.) The result is: Great tasting steak, chicken(shrimp was mushy and not recommended) Great prices($ 11 – 13 for a major steak, chicken, meatloaf, loco moco plates). I have enough food for my meal and then another meal the next day. Friendly people. They all know what they’re doing, they’re efficient, and I always leave with a smile. The first person taking your order may not be as friendly as the person taking your money coincidentally, but it’s all wonderful. You can order ahead, and you probably should if you’re ordering at dinner time. There can be a line. But it moves quickly and it is definitely worth it. I personally like the #2(combo of chicken and steak) with one scoop each of brown and white rice, potato salad(you can get tossed instead), and teri sauce. You get one sauce with your order and some people prefer the chimichurri, but I think I liked having the teri esp with the chicken. I used to work in the restaurant business and whenever I find an exception to the norm, I become very curious and ask a ton of questions. It makes sense why Hi Steaks delivers such great food at prices below what you could reasonably expect. If it’s with my own money, I’m coming here instead of Hy’s Steakhouse!

So, I have driven passed the Food Pantry probably a hundred dozen times, but I never stepped in until recently. I told myself that I needed to power walk through Waikiki to grab lunch & that’s what I did(record time, for sure). I walked passed the food pantry, but looked in as I did only to back track & walk in. So glad I did cause I found HI Steaks. I normally don’t like steak all that much unless it’s a bone-in ribeye & costs $$$(cause they taste so good), but I was craving meat! I ended up getting the steak and chicken combo plate(about $ 11) with brown rice & a green salad dressed in vinaigrette. Very tasty! I got a chimichurri sauce for the steak & the chicken was covered in teriyaki sauce. Confession: I had never tasted chimichurri, but I watch Gordon Ramsey shows enough to be curious. Got it & loved it! It was fresh & a bit spicy — a welcomed change to steak sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly & tasted great. My only criticism is the overdressing of my salad. In this case, less is more ;)

I don’t know why I haven’t found this place sooner! I am a devoted carnivore. I tried being a vegetarian at one point and failed miserably. Thank god for Unilocal, because that’s the only reason why I found this place. When I walked in, there was already a long line filled with construction workers. Men do love their meat and this line shows it;) I looked up at the menu and picked combo number one. A steak platter with brown rice and salad. I could see the steak on the grill just sizzling. That fatty goodness just dripping. Last minute, I decided to order the garlic butter fries. Within minutes my order was being put together. The sweet young lady slicing my steak asked what sauce I would like on top. I, of course chose garlic butter:). She dressed my salad with blue cheese and closed my box. I paid and happily left the store. The meat was spectacular. The garlic butter on my steak and fries literally perfected it. The carnivore in me said it was incredibly moist, tender, and flavorful. The fries were thin and crispy, and not saturated in butter making it mushy. The salad was small, but the brown rice was pretty darn good. I consumed everything and smiled with satisfaction! I’ll be a frequent customer!

We were exploring Waikiki a bit late and ended up eating dinner at almost 10pm so we were happy to find this place so close to our hotel. Steak. Rice. Bread. It was all good. :) In fact, the horseradish and au jus were very good and made me crave more! Appropriately priced meal.
