History

Established in 2005.

Hawaiian Style Rentals started with 8 mopeds and a pick up truck. With no location the mopeds would be dropped off and picked up at Waikiki hotels. Since starting in 2005 Hawaiian Style Rentals now has a Waikiki location, one of the largest 49 cc scooter fleets on Oahu and also offers bicycles and guided moped tours to Lanikai, Kailua.

My brothers and I rented mopeds during Spring Break and rode them all around the island. What an adventure! It was one of those days that we were smiling so much it hurt. When we bring it up we all start to laugh and make fun of one another, because we were riding mopeds in Hawaii. It was just good clean fun.

Now I help people recreate that same experience my brothers and I had. I am very blessed with an awesome team, supportive wife and the luxury of living in paradise.

Really nice guys there that helped us out. They got us going after some quick paperwork and a video. The price was fine except that we didn’t need the $ 25 insurance for the day. So the total ended up being approximately $ 68 for a whole day of riding including insurance. Unless you will be doing an activity that requires you not to be close by the mopeds you won’t need it. We ended up riding them basically all day around the island and whenever we parked we were close enough to keep an eye on them. Definitely would recommend renting some, it was a great activity.

This place is awesome! I had never driven a moped before, but what better way to explore the island?!
The staff is incredibly helpful. I rented a single-​person moped for three days and got the added insurance, which is cheap and smart to do (never know). I’m a teacher (aka poor) and the rental fee is very reasonable.
I was honest about it being my first time on a moped or scooter since I didn’t want to crash. The staff member Fedor explained all the controls. He was very helpful and went with me around the block to see that I got the hang of it. Having bicycle experience you pick it up quick!
If it’s your first time, don’t get stressed out. Relax, stay confident, focus on your driving and the amazing view! — and you’ll maintain coordination no problem.
One evening I parked at a lookout in east Oahu and I couldn’t get the moped running. I called the rental customer service and Fedor talked me through a few steps that got my moped running within minutes! Amazing!
The moped has a holder below the steering, which was perfect for my shades and phone. Crazy helpful while using the phone’s GPS!
If you rent one, be smart — wear your helmet and use your lock. Locals told me that moped theft is real on the island.
Driving the moped is so fun and liberating! So worth it. These guys were awesome with their customer service. They were fun, friendly and know their scooters. I would definitely go here for your moped rental.
If you’re debating renting one of these, just do it! You won’t regret it!

I rented their 3-​wheel scooter. I had the THE BEST DAY! The rental fee is reasonable. Great way to get around to all the major tourist spots near Waikiki. You get lots of looks because you can’t help but smile while riding around. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.

I actually started at a different rental place, but was referred here to Hawaiian Style when the other place lost the key to the bikes. What a stroke of luck! I rented a bike from Hawaiian Style, then came back the next day and rented a moped. What a great shop… Great guys working there… Great service. Dealing with them and renting their stuff totally made my trip. I had such a great time and it was a relief to know that if anything went wrong (which of course it didn’t) they’d run out and rescue me. Next time I’m here, Hawaiian Style is my first stop for sure.

I stayed at the Waikiki Beach resort which made it convenient to rent with these guys next door. Fedor helped us out and was fun, approachable and really has a good eye for helmet sizing. The rates were affordable and I had a blast seeing the island on a moped. Worth the money!

This is my second time renting mopeds in Honolulu, the first time was with a place that was a bit sketchy and unprofessional. Hawaiian Style was great, the mopeds were is good shape, the place was professional and all the guys were great. Fedor one of the guys there really helped us out. Also I usually never get the insurance, but it seemed worth it and we added it on.

Rented scooters for about 8 – 10 people on a couple occasions in the past. Great service. Great experience. I recently relocated to Oahu and knew I wanted to purchase a couple scooters, one for me and one for the wifey. Did my due diligence and shopped around a bit, but ended up back here to purchase for a few reasons. They have better mopeds than most of the other places around. The customer service is outstanding (Thanks Brad! And Fedor!). I bought two brand new Buddy’s for Christmas and loving them so far.

I lived in the island for five years and have tried every rental and repair shop here, and these are the guys to go with! Nathan, the owner, is awesome and has done everything he could possibly do to make sure I got the great service I needed, from picking me up when the moped had a random issue, to replacing parts. The whole staff has the friendly aloha spirit that one loves the islands for. These guys are the best and reliable. I rent from them every time I come back and wouldn’t go anywhere else! If I could give them 6 stars, I would!

Great place and friendly staff. They took the time to explain the routes and places to snorkel while on the island. They were very accommodating and made it easy to return the scooter after hours. I’d definitely use them again if I return to the island.

Don’t go anywhere else to rent your scooters. These dudes who run the joint keep it light and fun and are willing to bend over backwards for you.
I always usually never get the extra insurance car and rental companies offer but this place had a whole lot more. With the extra insurance which covers everything you also have 24 hour access to their parking garage where you can store your scooter whenever you want in a safe place. Waikiki has zero parking so this was nice. If your doing the whole island loop they will come pick you up if you break down or just bring you another scooter on the spot. When your done riding too you can just leave it in their garage and the keys in a lock box so you don’t even have to worry about business hours.
I highly recommend these guys.

I was really nervous and worried at first, but I got the hang of it. The rental process was easy, we just walked up and told them we wanted to rent a moped. They guys were nice. I checked in so I got the 10% off. I purchased the insurance as well since this was my first time on a moped and I wasn’t sure what would happen. But for $ 25, I’d say it’s worth it. You never know what will happen, and I don’t have the money to replace the scooter.
There was a short video to watch and then we got on the mopeds. I could barely touch the ground because I am short with short legs, but I was able to touch at least a bit. You don’t get a lot of instruction, but they also won’t let you go unless you are comfortable. So it was totally ok. I mean they tell you how to drive it, but it’s not like they follow you around.
We rode to Diamond Head and hiked that and then drove it up to Hanama Bay. On some of the hills mine topped out at 29! Lol. Riding through traffic was a little scary, but drivers are courteous. It was really fun and I definitely recommend everyone doing it!
The total cost was $ 62.50 I believe and we ended up only being gone for 3 hours because we were tired.
Just a tip, when coming back from Hanama Bay, at one point you have to exit to the right where there is a sign that says mopeds etc, if you keep going straight you will end up on the H1 or 2, can’t remember which one it was. Don’t do that! Lol.

Rent the scoot coupe (see pic)! It is awesome! We took out one and followed the map they provided which was perfect! Took the route to manoa falls and past punch bowl and diamond head. Great time and the mini is easy to drive. Gets up to about 40 – 45 mph, 2ppl only and we used one for 4 hours total. I think our total was about $ 120. The staff also expressed that if we were slightly late that would be ok (which was super comforting). Everything about the experience was 5 stars. Highly recommend this adventure!

This is my second time renting mopeds from this company with the first time being in 2013. The service and ease of renting was just as good as before. Me and my girlfriend rented out own mopeds for just a day for about $ 68. We got the additional insurance for $ 25 for theft or roadside assistance. According to the video you have to watch that their mopeds are the most stolen. I don’t mind paying the additional fee so there is no stress while parking since the moped isn’t too heavy. We mopeded past Hanauma Bay and past Chinatown with everything In between. It was a lot of fun and I highly recommend doing it so you can enjoy the scenery and the fresh air. All you need is a valid drivers license so why not! We will rent again for sure next time we are there.

One of the highlights of my recent trip to Hawaii! My husband and I rented two of the standard mopeds to get around on our vacation. He has a motorcycle license and I get nervous on little dirt bikes! We showed up for our reservation and were very quickly helped! They have you watch a short video on basic safety and then have you go around the block a couple times before they send you on your way! I had a ton of questions and they were so helpful! Our first trip was to hanauma bay! They provided us with excellent directions! Lone of the coolest feelings in the world on my little scooter going around diamond head! Super easy to ride!
The second day of our rental we were heading for Pearl Harbor and decided we wanted a bigger scooter, we called and they easily helped us switch over!
Next time I’m in Oahu I will be renting from them again!

I rented a higher end Moped for the power going up hills and decided to drive all the way around Oahu beginning with Diamond-​head. I would recommend hanging on the southern portions of the Island as, as pretty as areas of the Northern area are, I got slammed by 3 separate rain storms and 2 lane roads with way too many cars in low visibility. (side note: The Shrimp Shack on their map on North East part of Island is a truck! Avoid! Bagged food that is fried.) Their are other seafood restaurants before and after it that are there. Likely far better.
I have an iPhone with ‘Maps’ that saved my ass up North, so have one! Could barely read it with rain soaked glasses on. Make sure it’s water resisted/​proof! The map they provide is only so-​so for that area, especially in the northwest turning south. Roads are not well marked.
The best part is that these guys are very friendly and helpful, and their scooters/​mopeds are great. I took the risk going North around the island, and despite the weather, I don’t regret it! The weather up there is unpredictable because of the mountains. I spent about $ 4 in gas refilling the tank for the full island ride.
It was well worth it. Took 9 hours (rented for 24), and I felt like a truck hit me by the time I was done, but I got a fantastic and fun view of Oahu! If riding with family, stay on south side of Oahu. Stay east of Honolulu Airport and west of Koko head. Beyond those limits, you’re in far less unpredictable weather and 2 lane traffic. If you’re by yourself, or on a ‘Jackass tour’, or simply don’t fear death, do the whole island!

I rented a moped to escape the beach scene. I’ve rented mopeds prior but they insisted I watch a tutorial, watching was okay but he was cutting into my time speeding up the highway. Lol…
The moped was in great condition. You can’t go wrong renting from these guys, they’re professional and courteous.

My husband and I rented a scoot coupe one day. The place was located right around the corner from our hotel and they would park a couple of the coupes across the street from the hotel for advertisement so we decided to check it out. They are soooo much fun to ride around the island with. We took it up to Diamond Head Crater and around other various places around the island. The people at the rental place were very nice. Very enjoyable experience. Lots of fun!

Easily one of my favorite experiences from my Hawaii vacation.
We went around speeding along with a view of Diamond head to our left and the ocean to our right. The wind flew past us as we throttled the engines driving next to the cars. It was exhilarating and a beautiful drive. I felt like we were having our own island adventure and tour.
We got a half day rental of the standard moped with insurance because it was our first time riding. The top speeds were 35 – 40 mph. We drove on the shoulders sometimes. I think renting more powerful models could have worked well but it was our first time driving.
Pro tip: memorize the names of the streets and how you are going to turn before heading off. Discuss how each driver is going to communicate with the other on the street. Whenever in doubt we would give a long honk to do a full stop.
