I’ve been a member for about 8 years now, and have taken out an auto loan, a loan for our home PV system, and use the account for a few other account automatic payments. Overall they provide good, efficient services. They are just a bit harder to reach than most when I need access to my account. They have no suitable system in place for me to transfer funds to/​from my HSFCU account with another bank account. Luckily my other credit union (PFCU) can manage that. HSFCU also has no available mobile banking app, which is pretty much behind the times. Hopefully they’ll catch up with technology one day.

The staff at this location are awesome. We have a savings account since my husband is a teacher, and recently we got our auto loan through them. Talk about an easy process! We e-​mailed in our loan application around 3 in the afternoon on a weekday to Lorraine. I had compared rates with 3 other credit unions and Hawaii Schools FCU had the best rate.
We got a call from Lorraine first thing in the morning around 8:30am that we were approved and to go pick out a car. We had decided on purchasing a car around mid-​day, and when we brought the purchase agreement to her, we were good to go. Very pleased with their loan process. I only wish they had other locations. We live in Waikele, so we usually do our banking online.

I’ve had an account here for 4 years, and in those four years I haven’t really noticed how inconvenient it is to have an account here. It’s a small bank with only two locations, so if you need to get something done you only have two options. I want to start off by saying that I love most of the people who work here. They’re so friendly, which is why I’m giving 2 stars instead of one.
Yesterday (Friday) my account froze, and this bank does not have a 24 hour customer service line like normal banks. I waited until Saturday morning to call and have it unfrozen, and I called… and called… and called… and finally someone answered! And put me on hold for 15 minutes. I would’ve been on hold for longer if I didn’t hang up. I called back and the same lady answered, saying that someone else called and she needed to help that person. What the hell is that supposed to mean? I’m less important? I went through all of this, only to hear that the person who can unfreeze my account will be in the office on Monday morning. She also directed me to go to Hawaii USA federal credit union in the Windward City Shopping Center. There is no Hawaii USA at the shopping center.
I’m going to close my account here, and I suggest that if you are looking for a bank to start an account with that you do not do it here.

I love this little credit union because most people have never heard of it! There is never a line and they’re open til 6 pm. I’ve had my checking and savings account here for years and have always been very happy with the service. It’s the same 2 – 3 people who work as tellers and I always see May. 95% of the time she’s working in the same middle window. There’s something really great about knowing you’re going to see a friendly face when you visit your bank.
This past week I decided to refinance my car loan from another credit union and honestly didn’t know what type of interest rate I’d get. I turned in my loan application on Friday and got a response on Tuesday. I would have gotten it on Monday but it was a holiday. My original loan was for 6% and I got it refinanced at 3.25%. Sweeeeet! Paul processed my loan in about 15 minutes and I’m going to save a TON of money. I thought all credit unions were the same, but after today, I KNOW that is not the case.
I highly recommend joining this credit union if you live or work near downtown. One thing I wish they had was a banking app, but I’ll take zero banking fees and awesome rates over that anyday!
