Went to see Sean @ Diva Salon… he grabbed me a cup of coffee and got to work on my hair… one and a half hours later, I walked out of there all fixed…
Sean is the best! :o)

I found Sean 16 years ago and have followed him ever since. He is a master colorist, stylist and gives the best haircuts. I’ve been to some of the best salons and stylists in Honolulu and he beats them all. Actually our entire family goes to Sean and we all love him!

Although this salon is small and hidden, Sean always finds ways to improve on the appeal and décor of this place. Come here for all your styling needs, you won’t be disappointed.

I am very particular about my hair! Sean and Lavi will take great care of you– great products by Aveda and they won’t recommend anything that isn’t good or works for your hair! I have searched a long time to find such an amazing stylist! Thank you 1000x over!!!

I was recommended by a friend to see Star at Diva Salon for waxing. Star was very pleasant and made the environment a more comfortable one to be in (Brazilian appointments are definitely not one of the more comforting appointments a girl will go to!) She was also gentle and her technique of waxing was a lot less painful than of another place I have experienced. The location is easy to find though parking may be as issue depending on the time you go. The salon is small, but very nice and clean. I will definitely be seeing Star for my waxing appointments from now, and would recommend her!

I was here a few days ago to do my straight perm. I had to wait an extra 30 minutes before being seated due to the fact that they were busy in the morning :(But it was okay. While I was there, the ac was on high because I was freezing but thank god I had a sweater. Sean & Kendall, I believe, did my hair. They both asked if I wanted something to drink or wanted a magazine but I said no thank you. This is not your average salon though, lol. They always talk to there regulars and new clients. Overall, I really like this place. Again, thank you Sean & Kendall for doing my perm. I’ll be back in 6 months :)

Lena at diva salon is fantastic! She cuts super fast and just the way I ask. If I ask for an inch off, she only cuts any inch. I always hate the stylists that cut off way more than you want. Also, she does an amazing job on my color/​highlights and gives an incredible blow out to finish! I always feel pretty after seeing her!

Sean at Diva Salon is an AMAZING colorist and an impeccable stylist! What impresses me the most is the range of styles he is able to execute, which allows him to cater to a broad range of his clientele. Since I have been going to him, my hair has had all-​over highlights with a straight fringe, chunky purple highlights with a rocking razor cut, a subdued one-​color chestnut brown with a professional long layer, and now it’s got peek-​a-​boo highlights with a fun shoulder length cut. No mater what he does, I always leave happy and often get compliments from total strangers asking where I get my hair done.

Went in to see Sean again for haircut and color re-​touch! Sean was «TIMELY» and once again, I absolutely love my hair! Sean definitely knows what he’s doing! Thanks again Sean! :)

I came here for a Hair Straightening with a Groupon I bought because it was a great deal that I couldn’t pass up. I’ve had my hair straightened (Japanese hair straightening like the one I got at Diva Salon, and also the Brazilian Blowout) before, so I consider myself quite the expert at this expensive treatment! Like any other place, I did my research before making the appointment, and I have to say I wasn’t sure what to expect with the other Unilocal reviews I read — it was either 1 – 2 stars or 5 stars!
I was pleasantly surprised by the call I got on my cell phone 2 days before confirming my appointment, the quality treatment and the friendliness of all the staff. I did have to wait approx 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, but the receptionist offered me water and tea, and kept me updated on my appointment time. They did seem a little rushed/​overbooked at first, but probably because everyone was trying to cash in their groupons (i saw about 4 others getting the same hair straightening while I was there). I started off with a guy doing my treatment, but he hadnt had his lunch break so Lavi took over — and am I glad she did! She is amazing at explaining the process (especially for newbies) and giving you a quality hair straightening treatment. There was another girl that showed up early for her appointment, but Lavi took her time to make sure every last inch of my hair was straightened in the last step of the process.
This seemed like a small salon who is just starting out, but I was definitely impressed with the quality services they aimed to provide. And … 1 week later, my hair is still perfectly straightened! :)

I got a groupon for the perm straightening and loved it. I’ve never had it done before so I had lots of questions. Sunny was doing my hair and she answered all of my questions. She let me know that it might not stay perfectly straight, but it would definitely be straight and to retouch areas over the next 72 hours that seemed to be getting wave back in them.
The atmosphere in the salon is what I would expect it to be. They had their regulars that they do the whole salon gossip with, which is pretty entertaining to me. I felt comfortable and they offered me magazines, drink and if mentioned if I needed anything else just ask.
So fair my hair is perfect, but I still have to wait til tomorrow to wash it. As long as it works, I will be back for touch ups once a year. The only thing is I couldn’t have imagined paying full price for a hair straightening perm, not just there, but anywhere. Thank goodness for groupon!

Love coming here. Sean and his staff are always friendly and overly concerned about my comfort. The salon is modern, clean and comfortable. I get the Japanese straight perm done here and unlike other places where I have had breakage and inconsistent results I trust Sean completely. He knows what he is doing. I’ve also done a Brazilian treatment with him with excellent results but prefer the straight perm due to my hair type. Highly recommend. I’ve read the other negative reviews… I would read them carefully… most people were still very happy with the results they got… gotta give the guy a break when scheduling doesn’t always go as planned… He is always super busy so you can’t expect to get same day appointments… he is typically booked out at least 2 weeks in advance especially for a perm. Once you do get an appointment, I personally have never had to wait more than a couple of minutes past my appointment time…

I bought a groupon deal way back when. When I called to schedule an appointment, they couldn’t get me in until two months later. I guess it didn’t help that I needed a weekend appt and I was using a groupon deal. They reserve slots for non groupon appts.
I arrived on time for my hair straightening appt. Sunny, the gal, who eventually worked on me, came in a few minutes later and started shampooing another client. No biggie. I was called in about 10 minutes later than my scheduled appt. After a bit of chit chat, I discovered she got out of beauty school a few years ago but only worked on hair professionally about 5 months ago. Prior to that, she did hair for her family and friends only. I admit I was a bit leery just cuz she was such a newbie. She was friendly and wasn’t a gal who chats your ear off. I figure all beginners need to start somewhere, so I thought what the heck… let’s give her a try. She’s not only a hairdresser, but also Sean’s assistant… which was a bit annoying, because I had to wait for her to finish washing someone else’s hair before she could proceed. During her downtown, she helped him sweep hair and such menial tasks which I didn’t mind, but I don’t appreciate my time being wasted so you could assist someone else.
The work she did herself was ok. Because she’s new, she went by the book and did everything properly… almost. I felt something slimy on the back of my neck, so I prayed that there was a piece of plastic between my neck and the slimy, chemical solution. NOPE! In all the 10 years of having this type of straightening perm done, never have I experienced them slapping this chemical solution against my bare naked neck. Normally, they paint it against their hands that are wrapped in plastic gloves. I mentioned it felt strange, and Sunny moved it away from my neck.
The end product was great. She ran the straight iron through my whole head of hair, so I had salon gorgeous hair when I left. She gave me strict instructions not to wash, clip, rubber band, or anything to my hair for three days. I followed her instructions perfectly. On the third day, I washed my hair and noticed a section of my hair on the inside was still wavy! I guess she missed a spot. So I decided to wait a day and washed my hair again, then blow dried… sure enough… that wavy spot is still there! I finally decided to call Diva Salon and left a message with a girl who said she was going to pass it on to Sunny. It’s been a week now… and I haven’t received a call back. They have my home and cell phone number. It’s on the inside, so I’m not going to make waves, but she could’ve either redid that one area or offered a free conditioning treatment… or at the very least a call back to say sorry!
Needless to say… I won’t be going back =(.and I had such high hopes for this cute little salon.

No star for this place! i bought a deal for a japanese straight perm, made an appointment and waited a month for it. I came half an hr early, came in sat down, there were a hairstylist/​owner and an assistant/​receptionist, no greeting at all, after like 15 min the receptionsit came out and asked me, and told me to wait for the hairstylist to check out my hair, meanwhile, his regular clients came without appointment and wanted a haircut, he talked to them directly saying he would try to fit them in, and that he has another hair color appointment at 11:30 which is same time as my japanese straight perm appointment. He did not bother to look at my hair, he told his assistant to tell me if i want to do japanese straight perm, i will have to chop off most of my hair, to like short cut style, and my hair currently was bra line length, wtf… i was disappointed because i was looking forward to it for a month. He seems like he did not want to do my hair and want to fit his client in and reach to the coming appointment. but its okay, i am glad they told me ahead of time and not trying to do it and ruin it, so i asked if they can just trim the bang for me instead, that takes like less than 5 min, and he told his assistant to tell me i would have to make another appointment for that, wth… i made a japanese straight perm appointment (thats at least 3 hrs appt) and now im just asking for his 5 min, and he acted like that… i waited total an hour in that salon for nothing, he did not bother to come out, his assistant had to go back and forth to transfer the messages, and he was standing like a few steps away… so damn rude.
PS: i found Salon Ava after that and they did not turn me down on japanese straight perm service, did not even complaint i have a year old highlights on my head, my japanese straight perm came out nice and shiny, did not burn or ruin, their regular price is as low as i had to pay for their groupon deal. That shows me this hairstylist really has no experience or knowledge about hair, and dont know what they are doing.

Went for a straight perm today. I have to say Lavi is a miracle worker because my hair has never been this smooth. Everyone there is really friendly and I loved the vibe there… Good people doing great work! I’ll definitely be back.

I bought a groupon for a straight perm and was highly ecstatic at the very reasonable price. Scheduling an appointment was easy and I got an appointment that was only a couple weeks away.
Parking was okay. There are unreserved stalls all along the store fronts but when I got there all of them were taken. Luckily someone was leaving as I pulled around for a second time.
My appointment was at 12:30 and I arrived a few minuted early. I was greeted by a very nice hairdresser who offered me something to drink. I sat there and waited and waited and waited. I had to wait ONE AND A HALF HOURS to finally get seated!!!
They didn’t explain to me after that someone scheduled the straight perms that day wrong. Hrmm, I’m sorry but if you can’t accommodate, then don’t schedule.
I was tired, I was irritated, all I wanted was to get the two+ hour process over with and get out of there.
Don’t get me wrong, all the staff was very nice. But after 1.5 hours of waiting, I was at the end of my everything is okay rope.

First time here. Sean was really nice and funny! Just got color done but ill be back for a cut. Reasonable.

Love the new Diva Salon! Owner/​Stylist Sean Nakama has been doing my hair for years — he’s the best and the only one I will ever trust with my locks. Ambiance of the salon is great, small and intimate, relaxing contemporary music always on Seans playlist. Starbucks coffee served which is wonderful. Products used here are the best. Service is outstanding — i have NEVER had any issues with scheduling or timeliness of appointments. Can’t say enough positives about Diva Salon and Sean!!!

I am deeply disappointed with the professionalism of this place! First of all I had to wait almost a month for my appointment because I bought a Groupon for it and apparently they only schedule a certain number of Groupon appointments. My appointment was scheduled for today to get a japanese perm. They called me less than an hour before my appointment to «reschedule», stating that the «stylist» has pink eye. I’m sorry, but do you only have one stylist? & did this stylist suddenly develop pink eye within the last hour? Because I called your salon an hour and a half before you called me, to confirm that my appointment was for 4 o’clock; why wasn’t I notified of this pink eye then? Like I said I am pretty peeved with this place & feel like my patronage has been tossed to the wayside because I purchased a Groupon. If you cannot accommodate the amount of Groupons that were sold then you should not have sold them!
