FIRST VISIT: I came to the consulate in order to get my study abroad visa. I brought all of the required paperwork which includes your passport, a passport size photo (2″ x 2″, in color), and other paperwork depending on what your purpose of obtaining the visa is. I needed my acceptance letter and school/​dormitory information because I’m studying abroad. There is also a $ 45 fee that is required in order to pay for your visa.
The workers here are very thorough. My paperwork said that I needed a certain amount of money to support myself for two semesters (one academic school year). However, because I only planned on studying abroad for one semester, I brought a bank statement that had less than the amount stated for one year. Turns out you still need to bring the amount that is stated on the paperwork regardless of your length of stay. I ended up leaving without applying for a visa because I needed to bring a bank statement with more money.
SECOND VISIT: I came back with another bank statement that isn’t mine along with proof that the individual said that it was alright for me to use the money in the account. The proof has to be a signed document and a photocopied picture of the person’s ID. Everything went smoothly and there were even some magazines and informative brochures on the side that helped pass time by. There’s no language barrier because the workers seem to understand both Korean and English.
