I’ve been to duck butt more than a couple times so I know the atmosphere and what to expect. I also really like how they offer free valet parking since the area is so sketchy and there’s like no street parking unless you risk being towed. Anyway my sister booked a room from 11pm — 2pm. We loved the food and soju drinks, I mean that’s what you go there for. I don’t suggest this the place to get your specialty drinks like a Long Island, STP, etc. Because they suck. Pretty much taste like syrupy alcohol and the bartenders never really helpful. But hey you come here for the Korean stuff and karaōke right. Anyway the part that really sucked was how rude they were at closing. When we asked about last call the waiter did say he’s let us know before and that it goes by their clock outside in the bar(can’t see it in any rooms) but at 1:40 they stopped everything and rushed us to get out very rude like telling other workers«why are there still people in the room» and I might add they totally messed up our billing. I know we put a card on tab for the room but when it came to paying we checked everything and good thing we did since there were too many charges drinks plus added gratuity already we weren’t told about but no biggy, I get we were a big party. Regardless I get bar time may be faster but if your going to kick out your customers before actual time it would’ve been nice to have been told that especially before since we were a big party and under the impression we actually had the room until 2pm. Bottom line: awesome soju and Korean food. Come with a small group and just enjoy normal bar seats/tables.

Classic night out in Honolulu. Call ahead to reserve a karaōke room. $ 1 per song. The keypad is in korean but they will explain it to you if you ask. Try the soju drink-sooo tasty. The big one is the watermelon bc it comes served in a half watermelon style bowl but all the flavors are awesome. English song choice is not current but still a blast. Love the phone in the rooms to call for service. FUN!

HAPPYHOURHEREISTHEBEST! Watermelon soju was to die for! Fried chicken — so juicy, but the skin was so crispy. LOVE! Ahi poke — very fresh, flavorful, and loved the kick at the very end from the red peppers in it. Kimchi fried rice — I liked this a lot more after it was at room temperature. I felt like the rice had more of a bite to it then, and the flavor was quite nutty. Yum! Kimchi tofu soup — this had to be my all time favorite. The flavor was incredible. The kimchi was cooked to perfection. Our server said they cook it for almost 30 minutes, and the flavor of the kimchi made the soup a little tangy and spicy! There was also some pork belly bits at were little bites of heaven. Our server was so attentive. She kept coming back to fill our water, ask if we needed a refill, and just checked in to make sure we were okay. Definitely coming back! We had such a great experience.

Met my wife’s friends here for karaōke. I don’t sing, so I was here for food and drinks. By the time we got there, they had already ordered the famous watermelon shoju. Yum. I was starving, so we went for everything… and everything was great! Kim Chee pancake, Kalbi, sea food pancake, Kim chee quesadilla, Kim Chee mochi, steak, mochiko chicken. All winners.

Good luck finding parking here. If you’re lucky, you’ll find street parking that is legit and you won’t have to worry about your car getting towed. Otherwise, they do offer free valet service. Well, probably on weekends or rush hours, since I was there on a Monday night and they didn’t have valet service. There is metered parking on Ward Avenue if you’re lucky and a pro at parallel parking. This place is literally a hole in the wall. It is off on a side street of Ward. It’s a dark street near warehouses. But once you step inside, you’ve been sent off into the world of K-POP, if you’re into that sort of thing. They’ve got Korean music blasting in the background. Karaōke rooms where you pay per song, and a fully equipped bar with all kinds of soju. I’ve tried the watermelon soju: good, not great. What is great, though, is their food. The menu is extensive and there are tons of photos on Unilocal for your to peruse. I will tell you that everything I have tried has been savory and quite spicy. This is fair warning! Whoever is in the kitchen — kudos to you! Even if you aren’t quite a fan of K-POP and bars, swing by for the food. On another note, the service wasn’t all that stellar. It took forever to flag down somebody for water, drinks, etc. The manager didn’t look like he wanted to be there. Or at least he didn’t look like he wanted to help us. Although he did look quite friendly with some of his other patrons — probably friends or regulars. Our server was all over the place. I don’t blame her since it did get pretty packed afterwards. All in all, it’s a good place to check out. You don’t come here for the stellar service. You come here for some food, drinks, and a good time with friends. Good luck with the parking situation. Enjoy!

«This is your first time here!?» «You’ve never been here before!?» Yes, this is my first time here, which shouldn’t surprise anyone if you know me and my music preferences. But that’s not important and not why I was here. This occasion was to celebrate one of my best friend’s birthday. Café Duck Butt can be difficult to find as it blends in with the surrounding auto repair and custom shops and warehouses, but it’s only a block from Ward Ave and a block up from Queen Street. Parking is difficult because there literally aren’t many curbs in the area to park, and an abundance of «No Parking or Do Not Block Driveway» signs. There is «free» valet, but I will never let anyone drive my car. This place was extremely small, and the definition of «hole in the wall.» The place dark and dingy with TVs surrounding walls with random Korean music videos. The bar area was nice and wide with plenty of seats. I think there were more seats on the bar than tables in the room. Our friends chose this place because we had about 15 people in our party, and we reserved a private room from 5−8pm. Sadly, the room was extremely small as well – like the size of a ¾ bathroom. It can snugly fit 10 – 12 people with a couple of extra seats. It can get a little warm in there with the amount of people and the amount of alcohol consumed. There’s a karaōke system setup with a giant remote all in Korean. Make sure you listen to your server when he/she is explaining how to use it! All songs cost a dollar, and there’s a huge amount of songs in multiple Asian languages and English(of course). So apparently, the thing to get at Café Duck Butt is the Watermelon Soju that’s served in a half of a watermelon for $ 30. This drink is oddly refreshing, but you will taste the soju. It’s definitely a dangerous drink, but fun to share with a group of friends! When you finish, the watermelon becomes an excellent helmet. :p We ordered several items from the Happy Hour menu that range from 5 to 7 to 9 dollars. Starting with the Kim Chee Fried Rice at $ 9, the fried rice tasted good, but it was missing a key ingredient, the KIMCHEE. Where is the fermented won bok cabbage? The fried rice only had a few ingredients: spam, scallions, an overcooked egg omelet with furikake on top, and red chili pepper flakes. This was… weaksauce, literally. The Mochiko Chicken was terrible. The chicken was very thin and bland, and ate like bad minute chicken because it ate like it was over-starched rather than over-floured. I have no idea why this is made this way. What’s wrong with the local style Korean Fried Chicken? The Green Onion Pancake was okay. The green onions were a bit thick, the center of the pancake was a bit mushy, and wasn’t that crispy overall. These pancakes are typically bland, so you will need to dip in the soy sauce. The Deep Fried Chicken(whole) is deceptive because you are going to get the smallest whole chicken you’ll ever see. When this dish came, I thought we ordered pigeon or squab based on the size of it. The chicken was fried nicely and seasoned well, but other than the drumstick, you won’t find much meat elsewhere. The Spicy Pork wasn’t that good. The meat was tough and dry. Yes, the sauce gave it some taste and flavor, but I’m missing the meatiness and richness from the pork belly. There was so little cabbage underneath the pork that it’s pointless and would be better off putting none instead. Lastly, we had the Seasoned Tripe, and this was absolutely delicious and the highlight of the entire experience. The tripe was nicely cut into thin strips, and prepared and seasoned very well. The tripe was light and crunchy that had a great balance of flavors that hit all the notes and had a really good spice to it. I could literally eat an entire plate of this, perhaps even two plates! The service was great. All the servers were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. They always came to our room to check on us if we needed anything and to clear out whatever we finished. The food and drinks came very quick. Each room has a corded phone where you can call in to order or request something, and the call is almost always immediately picked up and is taken care of. Definitely top-notch service! Overall, I can’t say I had a great time and I can’t say I had a terrible time. It was fun celebrating my friend’s birthday, but Karaōke Bars and Karaōke in general are things that I have no interest in because of music genre differences. Other than the tripe, the food could easily be much better. The place is too small for very large groups, and parking isn’t ideal. Other than that, the service was excellent throughout. I’d comeback for that, the tripe, and soju.

Went here before the Kevin Hart concert and made a reservation for a room at 5:00 pm(made the res about a month early when we bought the tickets). Our ride was running a little late so I called to give them a heads up and ask if we could be there maybe 15 to 30 minutes after 5. The girl on the phone replies with attitude«anything after 530 and we’re giving away your table.» I was shocked at how rude she was. I understand we’re late but there’s a way to say it. Then when we get there we were waiting for someone to greet us and the guy asked if we had a res so I told them yes and my name. Then he asked the couple behind us and they said no. All his response was, was«…uh no.» And walked away. I felt bad for the people behind us. The service was alright, I understood that they were super busy but I still feel like there’s a way to talk. No excuses for bad customer service.

OMG you suck! Waited forever never got any food. The beer fest is a lame excuse for taking so long to bring out food. I hope you close down. Just because it’s beer fest and you are busy doesn’t justify waiting over 55 minutes for food. It doesn’t take that long to fry some octopus and make some rice. Took 25 minutes tops when I was in Siargao and the octopus was fresh and caught the same day!

So it was my first time at Duck Butt & also my first time at a Korean bar. I was super surprised when we pulled near the restaurant because it was tucked between the warehouses & automotive shops. There’s street parking or they even have free valet I believe. We went on a Saturday night around 9:15. The place is super tiny so be prepared to get smooshed & make friends with the neighboring tables. We had the table closest to the door. 4 of us sat while the 5 others in our party stood near us. I really liked the music videos that were playing because they were current popular songs. The music was a little too loud for me. We had to shout to talk to each other. On to the goods! We ordered their furikake chicken & seafood pancake. They were both delicious & very much needed with out lychee soju. 3 girls & a bottle of lychee soju equals a great time. The boys in our party ordered a bottle of Jameson which I know they were really enjoying. The service was really great & attentive. I think we were the youngest group there, everyone else seemed a little bit older. Definitely check it out for the soju & food!

Reminds me of Japan town in San Francisco! Great for drinks … Great selection of soju with their watermelon soju being their signature drink. It’s half a watermelon hollowed out and made into a dangerously tasty punch made of soju… This place is fun with a hip vibe that’s not pretentious. The food is not your typical bar food either. With a selection of island and Korean pupus it is sure to please a group!

What a gem! We got there late night and it was super loud and busy but once I got used to that I realized what a fun funky spot it was. Kinda dive bar feeling like it used to be sketchy but now the youngsters have realized how cool it is and spruced the energy up. And really good Korean food! Amazing tempura sweet potato(like the best) and mochiko chicken and a nice tequila selection. I’ll be back!

I am a frequent customer of Café Duck Butt. There are more than enough parking and if not they have a valet person from Wednesday to Saturday. The staff are friendly and service is good. Drinks are reasonable and the food is awesome. I always eat the fried chicken, Kalbi tacos and chicken tacos. I highly recommend Café Duck Butt.

Happy hour is awesome. The $ 5 menu is a really good deal. Also, the selection of sooju is awesome. Taro sooju tastes like milk tea! I give this place five stars because it doubles as a really good place for food AND drinks, and because I’ve gone there at least 8 times and have never been disappointed.

At first the name threw me off cus i thought I would really have to try duck butt lol. Went here for happy hour with my cousin and loved the food. $ 5 for fried mandoo was worth it cus i think there was at least a dozen in there. We also got the fried chicken, spicy pork belly and some soft egg thingy. Great place for cheap food during happy hour. Place is a little small though.

Duck Butt was the first place I’ve tried Soju. Of course we had to go with the renowned watermelon soju that comes in an actual watermelon! I’ve always wanted to go back but every attempt was cut short because they’re always packed on the weekends. Which is a good and bad thing of course. You just have to find the right time or call before 7pm to reserve a table if you’re coming with a group. I think the best time to go is during happy hour! I’ve been checking out different happy hour spots in the Kaka’ako area and I have to say the plethora of food and drink options along with prices are the best at Duck Butt. Any of their food options is sure to please and you can get their soju cocktails for $ 13(usually $ 20). Most of their food consists of family style portions so it’s best when with one other person or more. But some of the happy hour options can be eaten alone depending on how hungry you are. Nothing wrong with enjoying a couple drinks and food during pau hana alone right?! If it’s just me I’ll order some Kalbi tacos which are amazing! I highly recommend. The Kalbi is tender and well marinated and loaded with veggies. Pour on the hot sauce they provide. It’s surprisingly hotter than you expect but not overwhelming. Since exploring more Korean restaurants/bars and traveling to Korea I’ve began drinking Soju straight. I think it’s better straight when eating with food or just in general! Give it a try. Whenever I have friends visiting from Mainland or Japan I always bring them here. It’s not like most places they have back home. And they always enjoy and have a great time. There’s also a few Karaōke rooms there that you can either reserve ahead of time or request on the spot. Just have dollar bills ready and sing the night away. I’m starting to meet more of the bartenders and workers and they’re always really cool and accommodating. Some of the normal prices are a little steep but I think this place is perfect for group outings so the price is worth it. I just wish they had more Korean beer selections besides Hite(which is still good). Disclaimer: Don’t take soju for granted! It’s a sneaky drink haha. If you don’t know you’ll soon find out. Also, parking can be a hassle. Their lots fill up quick on the weekends. But they do have free valet service. Just tip of course.

Let me counter my last review(of bad Korean food) with one for EXCELLENT Korean food. Disregard the name(I love it but some may find it off-putting) and the location(horrible parking situation off-set by free valet) the food and drinks are great! Of the many dishes I’ve had here, all have been very good. The one must try item is the kim chee pancake. Theirs is thin, light, crispy and the perfect balance of kim chee and batter. The best one i’ve ever had! I didn’t do any of the ordering so I’m not sure what this is called but they have a conch noodle dish that is also something you’ve got to order! Huge portion and all of the things in a korean noodle dish that will make your taste buds happy — sweet, spice, crunchy, chewy… My previous visits here were greatly clouded by alcohol consumption, so I didn’t remember much of the food other than to say it was good. This recent visit I can clearly say, this is a great destination for good eats!

Karaōke is good for you! I don’t care if you’re tone deaf or don’t have a sense of rhythm! Just do your best with the singing gifts that you were given. That’s all that matters. Singing is beneficial for your lungs, circulation, endorphins and confidence. It’s like giving a speech, but the words are all there for you! Whether the song is happy or slow. .just do it! No one is perfect! There’s no judging! I came to Café Duck Butt in the Kaka’ako district of Honolulu a while ago for the food. At that time, my girlfriends and I enjoyed the conversation with the bartender as we were seated at the bar. The lounge area was packed and the food was good! This time, I brought my former coworkers. We’ve celebrated each others’ birthdays for over ten years now. They are really sweet girls and I hate to corrupt them, but hey… they need to get out and experience life, right?! They are amazed at what I’ve learned because of Unilocal!Hahaha! I had to tell them about the sketchy, industrial area(no sidewalks) and the valet parking. I have an old car, so I parked on the street. I was really lucky to find a space! My friends are kind of «high maintenance» girls, so they used the valet. LOL! It was a busy Friday night and Café Duck Butt doesn’t take room reservations after 7pm. I still wanted to go there, so I told my friends, «Let’s chance ‘em»! We got there at about 8pm and… Voila! They had an open room which was available until 10:30pm. .perfect! We’re so fortunate to get a free room! Wow! Thank you! It’s just a dollar a song — feed the cash into the machine and enter the song numbers into the remote control! Easy! The song selection isn’t as good as other places, so minus one star. Also, the machine didn’t seem to be able to store songs, so I had to input them in one at a time after each song was completed. Hmmm — a bit inconvenient… The service was as good as can be. The female staff seemed new, so she had to ask another guy to help her get us set up. We had to ask for more glasses, how to work the machine, etc. The server did point out the phone that we could use to call the bar staff. The napkins, paper plates and chopsticks were in the room already, along with the sticky song books and the microphones. The $ 30 watermelon soju was what I really wanted — it’s a beverage served in a hollowed out half of a watermelon. My friends were thrilled because they had never seen one or heard of it before. They also enjoyed the Seafood Pancake and Mochiko Chicken. I let them eat all of the Kim chee Fried Rice which was too spicy for me. If there was another reason to return, I would only go for a really good friend. The parking and song selection are better elsewhere. It’s too bad because the food is yummy and the name of the place is catchy!

Pretty much a good place to hang out, kick back some soju, and have tasty korean eats. I admit its been awhile since we came to this place, but the food and drink is consistent. Last night we tried the matcha soju, it was yummers like kicking back some green tea ice cream. The oden nice hot and spicy. Kimchee pancake is tasty and crispy. The Tteokbokki or dukbokki spicy and chewy. Fridays and Saturdays are always busy so either go early or make reservations. They have valet parking which beats trying to look for street parking on a Friday or Saturday. Service can be meh but most of the time they’re on it. They do have karaōke rooms if you want to get your sing on. Overall good eats and good drink.

Let me just start off by saying how AMAZING the food is here, its always fresh, and it is always quick! SERVICE: the service here is really quick and easy, we came here this past saturday and it was a full house with one reserved table open, so as we stood by the door hoping someone would leave so we could just get our quick drinks and food before the Katt Williams concert, the waitor came and asked us how many people we had, we had a total of 5 people with us. And he looked sorry as if there was no tables and informed us that the reserved table would be there at 9PM, it was only 7pm and boyyyy did we score! I informed him that we would be out by 8:30 because of the concert and he totally let us occupy the table which i thought was AMAZING!!! he took our orders(we knew what we wanted) and the food came out within 10 minutes along with all our drinks! FOOD: omg I cannot get over how amazing the fried gyoza is!!! it is literally a life changer and i am currently addicted to it, which is what keeps me coming back! we also ordered the Machiko chicken which is also amazing and boneless!!! YUM! my friends love the kimchee pancakes and kimchee fried rice, but i am not a fan of anything kimchee! DRINKS: Yessss a half cut watermelon with soju!!! THEEEBESTDRINKEVERINVENTED! let me tell you that for $ 30 this watermelon will have you feeling some type of way! haha especially since you are sitting and drinking it, when you stand up you instantly feel the effects of that soju! but it dosent even taste like soju because there are watermelon chunks all inside which makes it even more bomb! We also ordered melon soju and the strawberry soju which are both equally amazing! HAPPYHOUR: lets not forget that they also have an amazing food and drink happy hour ! LOCATION: The location is pretty good located right off of ward street(near my job at Mercedes), there is tons of free parking and sometimes there is even free valet service(tip the guy so he take care) LOL but the location is a small spot with a few rooms for private karoki and the main room there is a stage that you can sing to the crowd! the rooms require a reservation and small bills to sing individual songs which i find super amazing because most places charge by the hour! OVERALL: this is my go to spot for happy hour, dinner, parties and weekend fun! I would highly recommend you all check this spot out at least once and experience all the fun that is in the place! and try all the food that sounds good because most likely it is amazing! and dont forget to defiantly get the watermelon soju!

DISCLAIMER: This is nothing about the food but specifically about the owner and how they handle things unprofessionally. I was on a debate if I should write this review. I was mad and I’m usually understanding that accidents happen. But what I don’t like is when the place has a shady owner. You can’t man up and take responsibility for your actions. Avoiding calls and even paying for it. This happened back in mid August. I just bought a car literally hasn’t been a week. Took it here and valet. Why valet you ask? I’m a shitty street parker and I’m Asian haha. But aside of that, I had my friend in the car with me, when I dropped it off it was CLEAN in the front. Hence, I just got it so it was washed! My friend can justify for me. I drop off the car go in and when I come back to get my car, front bumper on passenger corner was muddy… I watched him pull my car out and what seemed like he reversed in… so I wiped off some of the mud. didn’t see a dent and big scratches. It was also late so I left… Because I have OCD, I had to clean it myself the morning of… I washed that part off and saw a DEEP scratch on the very bottom. I called them and the valet guy immediately knew what car I was gonna complain about.(Fishy don’t you think?) He told me he didn’t know what happened. Ok fine. Since you work for them… the owner should take responsibility for anything you do. At this time point, I didn’t know what to do and being a girl it’s hard to get someone to pay for it. I had a friend call for me and at first the owner agreed to pay but after months till this day. He hasn’t gotten a call back from the owner with multiple calls, voicemails and text left. It’s too late to take cops down there now since its been months that this happened. The valet guys probably don’t even have insurance covered to be driving the cars… Moral of this: don’t valet here, they are shady. It was my fault for not calling the cops right then and there. I was also not gonna file with my insurance on a scratch. I’m mad that«I DIDN’T SCRATCHTHECARMYSELF»… and when you agree to make payments but avoid… Highly unprofessional for your business… Vent over.

My husband LOVES Café Duck Butt, the soju is really great and the atmosphere is fun. Food here is great, I love the kalbi. The only reason for the 4 stars is the lack of space. If you are with more than 4 people you will struggle to find a place to sit as a group. The karaōke is a lot of fun, we paid $ 1/song and that seemed reasonable. Be sure you know which songs you want to sing because the songs are listed by song title not by artist.

I’ve recently moved to Kaka’ako and just discovered I can walk here from my apartment, so I was excited when my friends suggested happy hour here. Arrived promptly at 5pm when they open and I was glad we did because this place filled up very quickly and it was only a Wednesday! We ordered the usually suspects: mandoo, cheesy fries, fried chicken, kimchee pancake, and I wanted to try their new chicken and kimchee quesadilla. I also got to try their yuzu flavored Sochu and their new taro flavor. Loved their cheesy fries, kimchee pancake, and mandoo… But they’ve changed their mandoo from what seemed to be homemade to the frozen kind you buy from Costco. The fried chicken was also good except it’s weird that they give you hacked up parts of what seem like a small chicken(we joked it was pigeon because of the size). Sadly we never got the quesadilla because I’m guessing our server forgot, but we were full so I didn’t bother following up. The one thing that I constantly don’t like(so I should probably move on and order something else) is the Sochu drinks always taste so sweet that it has me wondering if they fill up most of the pitchers with soda or something. The taro flavor was amazing and if you love taro you’ll love this new flavor! Overall a great place to come for happy hour(it’s till 8pm!) and I’ll definitely come back soon!

No, you didn’t mishear, it’ actually called Duck Butt. And if you still don’t get it, check the graffiti of a cute duck showing his happy tail feathers when you walk in. I’m sure how the place was named is an interesting story, but all that aside, this place is awesome! Sitting in their dining room and hanging out is cool, but I come here for their private karaōke rooms. You can order food and drink off the menu and there’s no additional fee for the room; you just feed the machine $ 1 per song. They have a good song selection of English, of course Korean, and Japanese. Their sound system is pretty good too. Their soju watermelon is good(like literally, half a watermelon hollowed out and filled with soju goodness) but I like their soju shakers too. They come in flavors like Taro, Green tea, Lilikoi… my favourite is the Cucumber soju! Good food, good drinks, and karaōke… you really can’t go wrong! I do wish they had more private rooms, since they fill up fast, but at least they take reservations ahead of time. Plan in advance and you should be fine.

Watermelon soju and karaōke! What more can you ask for? The watermelon soju is a little expensive, but it’s soooooooooo tasty! I’m a fan of karaōke as well and at this place, it’s only $ 1 a song! Just remember to bring cash with you. I dont remember what other food items we ordered as I was with a large group, but they did have a full bar which was nice. A couple things that sucked were parking and the temperature. It was pretty hot in the karaōke room, but I still had fun =) Definitely going back!

OMG. This establishment is terrible. Where do I start? 1. Parking is a nightmare. You will need the free valet. 2. Food is not very good. 3. No free drinks for designated drivers. No one came around to offer water and a pitcher of Coke was $ 10 during Happy Hour. 4. Mixed Soju in plastic containers 5. Karaōke system quality was bad and the plugs were overloaded. Couldn’t work the LED ball in the room 6. The karaōke book is scattered and unorganized. Selection not very good. All Korean versions it seemed 7. Manager IMO rude and unaccommodating. I don’t know if it was a race thing. 8. Bar help was was not knowledgeable All in all I would not come here again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I wouldn’t meet anyone here and I wouldn’t even send someone I didn’t like. I’ve been to many karaōke bars and boxes. I’ve worked at a Korean bar. I own karaōke media. I cook. I’ve worked in the food and hospitality Industries. I just want you to know where I’m coming from.
