Wow… so my experience with this company was NOTHING like a majority of the people that left reviews here. They were nice and we got upgraded to a brand new convertible VW Beetle for free because they said that they didn’t have the car we rented. They didn’t have to ask me twice!

Stay away from this location and this company. I had a huge altercation with one of the employees. If one of my employees said half the stuff this clown said I would have fired him on the spot. Don’t think that the national office cares much. I immediately submitted a complaint with all of the details. Was sent one response asking which location (already included in the original complaint). After confirming the location, I never heard anything back from the company. Called the main number a couple weeks later and was further treated rudely. I run a company of 100+ employees that travel and rent cars frequently. This company is now banned in my company for authorized use. I informed the rental company of this decision and the reasons why and still have yet to receive any response.

Terrible customer service! Tried to give us a filthy car they thought they were doing us a favor with «an upgrade». Upon return filled up tank 14mi away before entering highway gauge showing on full, they were going to charge us $ 18.00 for ¹⁄₈ of a tank of gas they claimed when our gauge was on full. They refused to have someone else look at the gauge claiming «the system» reads the tank. Upon further pressing «the system» is a human that looks at the gauge and writes down what they see. My husband had to leave the lot to get more gas so the gauge still reads full. As I waited in the lobby the 3 girls laughed at the situation as the person who we tried to discuss this with, who refused to look at the gauge told those three girls that my husband a fuc@&$?! ass! Very unprofessional will never use again!

Service great best fleet. Previous reviews don’t know how they got the worst experience. But mine was the best. standing in line for good 20 maybe 25 minutes I was few hours late to pick up my car. I did noticed few people already getting help have no patience they were also late. Instead of asking if they can still get the car they were so demanding except to just get vehicle hand over. Bottom line we choose this company because of price we need to expect the unexpected. After all being late is our very own problem not the rental agent. Good job advantage you will see me again and again.

My two friends and I rented a vehicle from this place and it just about ruined our vacation. I would not advise anyone rent from them ever. There’s a lot of other rental car companies on the island, just about any other one, than this place.
We were in Waikiki on vacation and wanted to rent a car to explore the island. We were rented a Mazda minivan which broke down not once, but twice within less than 24 hours. We rented the car on July 26, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. from the Ala Moana location. After driving a short distance, around 3:00 we went to restart the vehicle it would not start. Being from California, we were not familiar with the area or our surroundings. Luckily, a stranger offered to jump it for us. We called Advantage soon after and they said there was nothing they could do because we did not purchase the roadside I assistance. I informed the representative we were not offered roadside assistance at the time of rental and she had nothing further to say.
Soon after, around 7:00 p.m. the battery died again. We, again, called Advantage and they told us to take the car back to the Ala Moana location to exchange it. I asked how they expected us to get the car with its dead battery to the Ala Moana location and, again, the representative said there was nothing they could do. And, again, we requested the assistance of a stranger to jump it for us.
We returned the vehicle on July 27, 2015 at 12:01 p.m. and after almost two hours of waiting around for a supervisor to address the issue and provide us with a refund, the phantom supervisor never showed up. Since we returned the call we’ve made over nine calls to the company without resolve.
They obviously do not care about customer service or renting cars in working condition. There’s plenty other rental companies on the island, so do your best to avoid this one. Book ahead with another rental company and you should be fine.

Terrible experience. Not enough people working to fill the reservations that they know they had to fill. Terrible.

Waited 3 hrs!!! Really, no kidding!!! That’s after waiting 30 minutes for the shuttle… Returning the car, the attendant was taking his time, then disappeared. 30 minutes, I didn’t even bother taking the shuttle, and still missed my flight home. The attendant inside took a long time to service one person, except for one. The 2 ladies sometime looking for something that is not there for 15 – 30
Minutes, then chatting etc… Meanwhile there is a line going out the outside… I know Hawaii is on island time, but this is ridiculous… Worse rental car company ever. Most of Honolulu and Hawaii rental car companies are aweful (been here 3x) but this is by far the worse…

Why oh why do they have to be so aggressive. After a long flight we stopped in to get our rental car. The line was looking and it was super slow. I was listening to the folks in line ahead getting hounded on car insurance. Each person said they already have extra insurance. It’s like the women are in commission to get you to sign up. I was hard to watch so once my return came I was prepared. At least I thought Lol. everything was pre paid though another site but they insisted on me taking the extra insurance. I said no and even called my insurance agent to confirm I didn’t need it. But oh no that doesn’t stop them from still trying to get you to sign up. Ugh after I finally get my car it’s OK but has an ocean smell but I’m like whatever is hot and I want to go. I let the lady know at the seat she said it’s normal so whatever we left. Now it’s return time. We pull up and do the inspection ask went good. So we had to the bus stop in front and wait for the airport shuttle. It’s over 98 degrees outside and humid great. So it’s about 5 families so waiting and waiting but a no show ! Good thing we arrived super early! After going in several times to see when the shuttle was coming thru kept saying every 15? Really well we have been here for 45 minutes so that’s a lie smh. After they finally show up it’s limited seats because the shuttle had wet nasty water stains all over the last row. well what a way to start and end a great vacation. I will not reserve with them again!

This place is a joke. Pay the extra $ 20 and rent from a reputable car rental company.
It took 30 minutes to get picked up by their shuttle. Then another 25 min in line to get seen and rent the car.
They never answer the phone! So while waiting for the shuttle all we could do is wait.
They told me I could bring the car back not filled up and they would charge me the same rate as the local gas station. She never said I would be charged for a full tank. We brought the car back with ¾ of a tank and still was charged for a full tank! and it wasn’t even full when we picked it up.
They also charge an additional $ 12 if you want your spouse to be able to drive.
Car was not cleaned when we picked it up.
Just a horrible place. Thought I was saving money but actually cost more when all was said and done.

This place has horrible service. We waited for an hour for a van to pick us up and after talking to someone on the phone who didn’t care at all and then talking to a manager who couldn’t even get in touch with the rental center we decided to take our business elsewhere.

Never again … I don’t know how these people actually run a business on treating people with such condescending attitude. First of all we waited over an hour to be picked up when we had a reservation. They were supposed to have a shuttle going around every 15 minutes … Not okay people … We called and spoke to someone who was super rude … San I called back tried the manager he couldn’t even get in touch with anyone at the airport … We just left to enterprise, yes it’s a little bit more expensive but I rather be treated with respect and feel welcomed and taken care of on my vacation than to deal with bs

Was very skeptical going with this company due to its negative reviews, but I’m glad I did. Great prices, shuttle took 10 – 15 minutes, no more than 5 minutes in line to counter, good car, 5 – 10 minute wait to get car inspected upon return.
After reading reviews, I made sure to vacuum the car prior to returning. ($ 1.25 at local gas station) take care of the car, you shouldn’t get any additional charges!

Although they seemed staffed well with polite and knowledgeable people, it seems as though their procedures are PAINFULLY slow. Be very patient with check-​in and return. With the time I spent waiting, it certainly wasn’t worth the $ 5 per day I saved on the rental.
I’ll never rent from Advantage again.

Very, very pleased with this company’s service and the way they accurately set expectations. Coming into this rental I was a little skeptical. We got an awesome rate via Priceline, but I had never heard of them, so had my reservations.
When I touched down in Honolulu I looked them up on Unilocal to call them (as the shuttle was taking extremely long to arrive… around 35min). When I found them I saw a ton of bad reviews and was fearing the worst. Oh… and no one picked up the phone when I tried to track down the shuttle.
Eventually we made it to the rental place. First impression… run down! To be fair it seemed like the entire rental car lot was in the same shape. Looks like they’re going to be doing a full remodel soon so things should improve shortly. I digress.
So I hit the counter and am greeted by a very cordial and professional young lady. She thoroughly answered my questions and got me to my vehicle quickly. She explained that I needed to conduct a self inspection and return the slip with any damage I find. Thought this was odd, but then remembered the rate I had and decided this was a cost cutting measure to limit overhead and pass on the savings. Then the pre-​paid conversation came up. I was on my way to declining this add-​on until she explained that it’s not the standard gas pre-​payment where you are charged the full gas charge regardless of how full/​empty you return the vehicle. Advance actually refunds the charge if you return the tank filled. They offer this as a nice to have in case you get caught without the time to refuel before returning.
In conclusion… I returned the vehicle and was again fretted by a very nice young lady who very politely checked me out and wished me a great trip home (all very genuine). Glad we decided on this place to rent. Next time in Hawaii will definitely consider them (assuming the price is right). That fifth star never came due to the long wait for the shuttle. Otherwise, there would’ve been 5 shining brightly on this review. MAHALO!

We ended up waiting for about 20 minutes to catch the shuttle from the terminal.
Once we arrived it was another 15 min wait in line until I got to the counter.
Becky was the agent and was very pleasant. Her service was fast.
Make sure you really check over the car for any damage.

On airport grounds which is nice but really felt the upsell wasn’t clear and then didn’t even get the car they upsold us to. Overall not a great experience. It’s just far enough that you want the shuttle but they seem to only have one shuttle working so can take a while. Cheaper than the other guys but for a reason. I do not plan to use them again.

We were delayed
By one hour and they gave our car away. :/​really crappy attitudes and we’re not apologetic or helpful at all.

So I took the advice of other Unilocalers, I inspected my car with a white glove for dents and dings. Maybe not white, but close enough. I returned the car the next day with not problems. They are dinged two stars because:
1) parking is awful and they are rude if your not exactly where they want you. (Which is the lane where all the car rental companies return cars and you have to play nascar to navigate around them).
2) they are so darn slow. It wasn’t as much as other companies to rent a car for the day which is nice.

This is absolutely the worst rental car experience I have ever had in my life. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS CO. I’ve been in line for over an hour and still have barely moved. I rent 5 – 6 cars per month in various cities across North America and I have never seen anything like this. I couldn’t not warn you.
**Update: I ended up waiting over 90 mins before I finally got into a filthy car with used tissues in the cupholders. But at least my car didn’t have an empty beer can left in it, like the woman in front of me who was on vacation with her young daughter. And that car, btw, had a note in it that said «This car cleaned by…»
P. S. I’m pretty sure that this is the only 1-​star review that I’ve ever written. I’m not a review snob who goes way overboard with reviews (ie. «the waiter gave the busboy a sideways glance, so they get 1-​star, even though the food was incredible…»)
