Specialties

We offer a large selection of the finest Organic loose-​leaf teas, and many are Fair-​Trade.

We also offer baked goods, gluten-​free options and lunch items that are primarily vegetarian. Our food items include options for those with food sensitivities: Vegetarian; Gluten/​Dairy/​Soy-​Free; non-​GMO

Food is fresh-​made daily. We also accept custom orders for our baked goods with a day’s notice. Bulk tea for sale as well as gift items and gift baskets.

Our café is kid-​friendly and has free Wi-​Fi for paying customers

We are a casual Tea Café and therefore do not offer High Tea, coffee or a full restaurant menu.

History

Established in 2014.

After spending more than 2 decades commuting by train to Chicago, owner Terre Robertson decided it was time to pursue her dream of establishing a peaceful and healing Tea Garden Café where people can unwind, relax and de-​stress with delicious teas and food. Our mission is to provide organic premium teas, tea blends and herbal teas accompanied by delicious, healthy edibles while minimizing our impact on the environment.

Business Owner

Terre loves all things tea as much as she loves making others happy. With inspiration from the Pacific NorthWest where both of her kids now live, she decided to open a casual (and eco-​conscious) Tea Café where people can relax and slow down from the busy pace of life.

She recognized the need for a place that serves people with food sensitivities and wanted to create a menu of primarily vegetarian and healthy lunch foods and unique baked goods.

Having commuted by train for over 20 years from the Homewood station, she also wanted a place where commuters can get a delicious cup of tea and fresh-​baked muffin on their way to the train.

As a mom and grandma, Terre also knows the importance of having a place to go during the day that is fun and safe for the kids, which is why she ensured that Civilitea Gardens is kid-​friendly with a cute little kids table and kid-​approved treats.

Terre looks forward to meeting more of her local community as her business grows!

I got the vegan chocolate chip cookies straight out the oven! OMG sinfully good! I also chose the vanilla rose black tea upon a Unilocal review recommendation. It smells delicious but too hot to drink right now. The breakfast bar is filling, light flavor, very tasty though.

Great tea selection with a nice cozy atmosphere! I would highly recommend the Vanilla Rose Black tea for hot tea and the Tropical Green for iced. The breakfast cookies are a must. I can’t get enough of them! The chocolate chip cookies are amazing as well, especially if you catch them fresh out of the oven. They offer a tea punch card to earn a free tea after 5 purchases. Also, the owner told me if you save your tea bag and place it in the fridge you can reuse it another time, 2 for the price of one! I love that the store is environmentally friendly and health conscious.

Thoroughly enjoyed my red tea which was strong enough to get two cups. Great atmosphere, Terre the owner was extremely friendly and full of honest conversation. They don’t have coffee, but the variety of tea makes it worth it.

A unique little nook of a shop tucked away in downtown Homewood village, this is an excellent spot to sit and chat with a friend (or the super friendly owner), read a book if your heart desires, and/​or meditate on the day over a steaming cup of tea.
I love getting the peach tea, as well as the dragonwell green tea. 12 oz is around $ 3, and a 16oz is around $ 4. They have agave nectar, honey, and Stevia on the side for natural sweeteners. They also have a bathroom (very convenient), a spot in the corner where the kids can color, a selection of tea infusers and loose leaf teas, and of course, a section of bakery items. Choco-​cherry muffins, oat cookies, and bars. Yum. This place needs our attention and patronage! Tea drinkers, vegans, vegetarians, or anybody who just loves hot/​cold beverages & bakery treats, come here!

I just had one of the best muffins at Civilitea Gardens in Homewood — a dark chocolate cherry muffin. Delicious! Scrumptious! Delectable! And guess what? It was vegan. All of her pastries are fantastic and homemade. Great host, great eats, great atmosphere and of course, great tea. Thanks!

I enjoy shopping local, so when a friend and I decided to meet for tea, I instantly recommended Civilitea as I live nearby. It was okay, nothing special at all. The two ladies working were nice and there is a decent selection of gifts and trinkets to purchase, but I wasn’t overly impressed.
I am not a tea aficionado, but my previous tea experience (at a different establishment) was much more informative. We decided to sit down and have our tea, so when our drinks arrived in to-​go foam coffee cups, I was a bit confused.
There was no mention of goodies available for purchase to eat while we had our tea and then they rushed us out. We realized they were closing at 3pm, but to take the trash out while we were still drinking (2:40pm) and then to turn the lights off on us (2:55pm) is kind of harsh… keep in mind we were standing by the door saying our goodbyes and the only reason we didn’t do this outside of Civilitea was because it was raining heavily. I do try to be considerate of others’ time.
The last thing that didn’t sit well with me was how one of the ladies treated another (dine– in) customer.
So there are two restrooms here, one for customers and a private one for employees. A mom took her daughter (3 – 4 years old) to the restroom and one of the ladies noticed that both restroom doors were closed, so she goes and knocks on the door to the employee restroom and asks if the mom was in there! Who does that!!! Needless to say this lady felt stupid after knocking, because it was her co-​worker in their restroom! I hope that mom never goes back there, that was rude. I mean I could see if someone came in off of the street asking to use their facilities, but this lady was a customer; even if she had mistakenly used the wrong restroom, what was the point of knocking on the door? Did she expect the lady to come out and go into the correct restroom? Foolishness.
My mom mentioned how she wanted to stop in and I told her, «don’t bother», but if she did decide to take a chance on Civilitiea, she better potty at home first.

Quaint little tea place. It’s all bout healthy living. So if you’re looking to have high tea with scones, marmalade, small tea sandwiches and formality with gloves and bonnets, well this is not the place. They serve healthy sandwiches and lots of different teas. The aroma of the teas are so sweet and yummy. Lots of varieties of tea. We had the cacao chai and coconut chai teas. SO YUMMY, and no need for sugar or milk or cream. The owners are available for questions and assistance.

What a cute little tea shop! So many teas to choose from! They also have baked goods, gluten free teats and sandwiches with the healthy twist.
We had iced hibiscus tea and tea cakes. Both were absolutely delicious!
Owner was super friendly and answered our million questions with the smile. I’m so glad we got this little tea place in Homewood. Please visit soon and tell your friends about it!
