Massachusetts Academy of Ballet is a training school for students interested in pursuing a career in classical ballet. The classes are based on the Russian syllabus, a training method that has created some of the best ballet dancers in the world.
History
Established in 2005.
Rose and Charles Flachs, the directors of the Academy, have danced professionally with the Nashville Ballet, Ballet West, and the Cincinnati Ballet. They currently are Associate Professors of Dance at Mount Holyoke College and guest teachers with the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet. They have studied the Vaganova method of training with John White, author of Teaching Classical Ballet and Margarita de Saà, and have traveled to the National Ballet School in Havana, Cuba, to further their studies.
Since opening the Massachusetts Academy of Ballet, the Flachs have passed on their knowledge to their students. Students of the Academy have competed and medaled in the Youth American Grand Prix as well as the Connecticut Classic Competition. Alumni have gone on to work professionally at companies including the Grand Rapids Ballet, Colorado Ballet II, First State Ballet Theater, Connecticut Ballet, Prometheus Dance, and SoMar Dance Works.
