Derek is absolutely THE BEST photographer around! He is genuine in his craft and is one of a kind. His assertiveness and great eye for details mesh well with his friendly and patience in attitude.
Throughout the whole process of our wedding he made us feel at ease and comfortable while being totally professional. In fact both him and his second photographer dynamically work well together in capturing results of amazing pictures.
We have fond memories overall of not only the day but also a wonderful experience with Derek! We highly recommend and encourage his fantastic talents!

Derek Tang is an AMAZING photographer, and he’s also very friendly, accommodating, and creative with his shots! Add all those up, and you get photos that will flood you with the same emotions you felt on your wedding day every time you look at them.
It’s been almost a year since my wedding, but every time I decide to look through the photos, or pull them up to show friends/​families, I can just hear all the screaming, giggling, laughing, and crying from each photo. Derek’s ability to capture the raw moments really show through in his photos and I really appreciate all his hard work to capture those special moments.

Derek is a talented, artistic photographer, and my husband and I had Derek shoot engagement photos and wedding. He was able to capture special moments of our celebration and has this skill to set up a beautiful photo composition. We were blessed to work with Derek, as his is professional, on time, responsive, and accommodating. Working with him definitely decreased our stress level in this area of wedding planning. He was clear with regards to what the package would provide and what the cost would be. We have an engagement photo guestbook, a canvas photo, photos for our invitation and thank you cards, and digital copies of 1400+ beautiful photos to remind us of our wedding day.

Engagement photo session — Derek accompanied us to a few places and both of us think he did a great job at using the surroundings to take good pics. He was really friendly and patient — really got to know him during this hangout time. We got a lot of pics to choose from.
Wedding day — Derek and his partner showed up early and took all the pictures as expected. Also, prior to the wedding day, he offered advice on how to plan certain things which was really helpful. I was especially impressed with the pictures that he took on the dancefloor — crystal clear pics of dancing people in a very dark room with dim purple lights, these pics turned out amazing.
Conclusion — I’ve got no other photographer experiences so I can’t compare with others. In the end, I was more than satisfied by his work. I dont like how some photographers change all the colors and make it «unique.» I feel like anyone with photoshop can do that on their own. I like how he kept the colors as seen from my own eyes — albeit some pics had tinges of touched up style. Overall the final set had an overwhelming number to chose from — which is great because sometimes you dont necessarily love all the pics that your photographer takes. Many to choose from — met my satisfaction for the good pics.

We had a great experience with Derek from start to finish. After interviewing several photographers in the Bay Area, we picked Derek because of his easy-​going nature, artistic skill, and willingness to accommodate our photography needs. He was an active listener and was able to deliver on our requests for a combination of photo-​journalist images and the more traditional photography elements. We were very pleased with the approx. 2000 photos we were able to download from his website and use as we wish. Thanks again, Derek!

This review has been long overdue. We hired Derek to take our photos for our wedding. After looking at several wedding photographers, we decided on Derek because of his very friendly personality, his work and of course a very good price. We looked at some photographers that had the same style as Derek but charged double of what Derek charged.
As for our photos, we couldn’t be happier! Derek took over 2000 pictures on our wedding day! He gave us online access to download them within a few weeks and gave us DVDs of all the photos in about 2 – 3 months! His style is one of the reason we went with him. He took candid photos of everyone at the wedding which we requested and coincidentally, that’s the kind of pictures he enjoys taking.
Derek is a very friendly and hardworking photographer. He stayed at the wedding all the way until the end even though the wedding went overtime a little bit. He was also very good at capturing the ceremonies we had at our wedding (we had a small Chinese tea ceremony and a 30 min Korean ceremony).
During the wedding, he did not bother us once as it was pretty hectic. Instead, he would talk with the wedding coordinator and/​or the wedding party when there was something he needed.
Derek also did our engagement photos and they turned out just as beautiful. We went to Half Moon Bay and even though he has never taken photos there, he knew where to direct us for some great photos!
Overall, I would definitely recommend Derek to anyone that is looking for a wedding and/​or engagement photographer. He is very skilled in his craft and his personality will match with any couple! His prices are some of the best around too!

Derek shoot both our engagement photos and our wedding photos. The resulting photos were FANTASTIC and his friendly attitude only made the process easier. His pricing is both clear and fair — some other photographers charge extra for editing more than a handful of photos or for extra hours but you get the full package with Derek.
During the wedding, Derek worked really well with our wedding coordinator and made sure that he and his second shooter was always at the right place at the right time. His photos include both the typical wedding shots and also really creative, unique shots as well. He took time to get to know our wedding party so that everyone was having a great time whenever he was taking photos around us.
The best part, of course, was the photos themselves. Great technique and composition, and beautifully tasteful editing. Plus, he gave us all the photos (thousands!) in a convenient online album and on DVDs as well.
I highly recommend Derek for weddings, engagement shoots and any other photography needs!

I think Derek usually does weddings, but we had him come out to shoot for a celebration memorial service. He was amazing! He captured every key moment, all our family members, and all the decorations in an artistic way. Some photographers are all up in the ceremony and are very noticeable, showing up in attendee pictures since they’re right in the midst of the proceedings. Instead, Derek was extremely discreet, so much so that we hardly noticed him even while he captured great angles of everything. He was both professional and personable throughout. He also sent us digital copies of the hundreds upon hundreds of pictures soon after the event! We highly recommend Derek for any event.

Derek was our photography for both our engagement session and wedding day. We love the way he captured our relationship and the wedding for us.
