The staff needs to be educated about properly caring for animals as well as ensuring the safety of both critters and customers. On a recent visit I saw unattended children terrorizing mice, hamsters, birds and rabbits. As a result children were bitten. Animals were stressed. The puppies, already looking tired and stressed from being continuously handled by the large crowd, were frantic when a large dog kept lunging at them in their cages. Small children were knocked to the floor in the chaos that followed. Several employees were present but did nothing to ensure safety or diffuse the situation. One tried to ask a manager for help. Nothing was done. Everyone’s needs could’ve been accommodated had the dog owner been escorted to a quieter area of the store until the dog calmed down. When there was room to walk safely, the dog and owner could have resumed his search for another canine companion.
In all fairness, I remember a wonderful visit a few years ago, where a kind, and caring employee sat with us and taught the kids how to properly hold and care for a rabbit. Since then, things have gone downhill. Recent visits have not been enjoyable. We left feeling sad for the animals who have no choice but to depend on Petland staff to keep them healthy and well cared for. We customers can walk away.

Do NOT buy a pet from here !! Just bought a blue Russian kitten from here 2 months ago for $ 1200 and it has had constant diahrea, despite passing the fecal testing ! Now at 6 months, the vet can’t even spay her because she has an alarmingly high white blood cell count. I’m taking her to get tested for leukemia tomorrow, never had a sick cat in my life !! Just so sad and unbelievable

I pick up a Fire shrimp and a damsel they suggested a 1 $ tranquilizer drug. I spent 3 hours doing a drip before transferring them into a very stable tank that all has been stable no losses for five months. Damsel died Monday and the Fire shrimp died Tuesday. No other fish or invert in the tank show any signs of problems. And I drove all the way from Milwaukee FYI the two were just under $ 60.00 when I call I was told they only have a 48 hour guarantee period. Never again

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would.
I have been here several times, each time it reminds me that animals are being mistreated all around me. The dogs look so sad and when one of the employees tried taking one of the dogs out, the dog kept trying to get away. It’s horrible that these animals are from mills. I don’t see many reviews about the hamster, so here is mine. I had just gotten home from petland because my friend wanted to visit. The first thing I saw were the hamsters. FIGHTING over the water bottle that was too high for them. I lowered it as much as I could and they kept biting and trying to KILL each other just to get a sip. If one was drinking, the others would PUSH it down and get their own drink. I wanted to cry. I stayed there as long as I could just to give each of them a drink. I was so heartbroken. I want this place to shut down, I hate places like this. Writing this review brings me to tears. I wasn’t able to talk to the manager because I was in a rush, but if anybody is reading this review please let the manager know. Don’t go to places like this, go to somewhere like PAWS Chicago.

The worst place to buy any animal the cats looked very sick litter boxes full of waste cats eyes and nose very crusty, employees walking around not even attending to these poor sickly animals, this place should be ashamed of themselves very sad to see

I was in this store yesterday evening and couldn’t have been more disgusted. All of the dogs looked dirty, most all of them had diarrhea and were extremely hungry. It was dinner time when we were there and it appeared that all of the dogs regardless of weight and bread were being fed the same food and were being over fed. The ferret cage was filthy as well. There were about 5 or 6 piles of «waste» in the caged area… For only 2 ferrets. The kittens were under ridiculously bright lights and appeared to be miserable. The smell of the store in general was terrible. No one expects a pet store to smell of roses but this was over the top. The guy working in the fish department was sluggish and condescending. I feel terrible for the dogs and cats in there. I think these animals should be removed from the store immediately.

This is the second time I have been here. There is little to no customer service and they don’t treat their animals well at all. There is open cages low to the ground with no staff watching over it. There are hamsters and other animals and the kids that come in the store are allowed to just pick up and grab whatever animals they choose without supervision. I saw one of the poor hamsters die because the kids were torturing him and throwing the hamster houses around on top of them and squishing them and they didn’t say anything, they just took the dead hamster away like it was nothing#!!# I don’t support this store at all!

The floor reps are rude and they just look like they weren’t happy to be working there.
When you first walk in, a blast of foul urine and feces.
When I looked at the puppies some were standing in their own poop and large quantities of urine on the collection tray below.
They put two medium size puppies in the holding window. If you haven’t seen them they are very small.
A Golden Lab and a husky sharing the same holding block is insufficient space.
This would be classified as animal cruelty.
Don’t buy any puppies here. They are said to be FROM «PUPPY MILLS»
Fish Department I would give 2 stars.
A few times a sales rep would ask me if I needed help.
A few times they couldn’t answer my questions and had to ask another coworker for the answer. (Not very knowledeae).
And a few times the sales reps didn’t acknowledge my prescence.
The fish department has a 3 day warranty on fish. So if it dies after 3 days. Oh well.
Go to Pets mart for fish. They have a guarantee fish policy for 14 days.

Some of the staff is knowledgable. Some of the staff is rude it’s really a hit or miss when it comes to service. I asked to see a pug one of the techs were ridiculously rude so when she walked away I simply asked someone else. I spent a good half hour with that pup. $ 1700 for a Shih Poo. Dogs are over priced but guess what it isn’t a puppy mill. All these dogs have papers and they care for the animals. There are dogs in the back that may be sick and being nursed back to health. One of the techs I spoke with even decided to bring one of those dogs home because every other dog had a chance to go home to a family where as that one never did. They may not do an extensive background search but some techs do their best to get a feel for you by hanging around watching you interact with the puppy, ask you questions pertaining to your lifestyle and things that would let them know who you are as a person. For the price of a puppy or cat, steer clear. Unless you want a pure breed then sure spend your money otherwise find a dog from a rescue a loving home.

Every single saltwater fish I’ve bought from here has died and it’s not because I don’t know how to take care of them. Also, the customer service is hit or miss. Sometimes you can find someone who is friendly and knows what they are talking about. Most times… not so much.

Poor poor service. Sad sad pups. Would recommend going to a rescue. On the other hand they have a nice dog supply selection.

Mediocre service — at best. The puppies and kittens were so beaten up. Probably because they’re all from puppy mills. The fish section was AWFUL. WARNING!!! DO NOT BUY ANY SALT WATER FISH OR CORALS FROM HERE!!! (Go to Beyond the Reef, just around the corner). The reptiles looked mediocre as well. Overall a lousy place to go to. I would recommend so many other places over PetLand. (If you need recommendations, let me know– owner of a 40 gal breeder salt water reef, bearded dragon, veiled chameleon and two cats)

A pretty big store in the surrounding area with varieties of pet product needs. Large selection of fresh and salt water aquariums and fish. The staff could be a little more attentive with their customers. Plenty of strip mall parking. Their prices are a bit higher compared to other pet stores but they don’t have much competition.

Loved this location! My boyfriend and I bought our baby dalmatian pup from this location about a month ago. She is hands down the best dog we have ever owned. The entire staff was extremely helpful and knowledgable, especially Brea. The store is extremely clean and the crates are large enough for the puppies and kittens. They are constantly being loved with play time. Every single cubicle to play with the puppies were occupied when we were there on a random Wednesday night. I will admit they are on the expensive side, however, I signed up for a line of credit with them for a very affordable monthly payment price (including all our pup’s necessities). If you are looking for a pup and not sure where to turn to I would DEFINITELY recommend this Petland location.
We stopped in last week for a visit and our pup was SO EXCITED to see the staff. Honestly it was one of the cutest things I’ve seen, she was so happy to see everyone, I’m convinced she remembers them. You know the staff treat their animals well if a puppy was so excited to be there and see everyone again. We’ll be back soon!

Do not go here!!! Puppies from pet stores are from puppy mills and if you think you’re saving the puppies, you’re actually just freeing up space for another poor puppy and keeping the store and the puppy mill in business.
Not only that but when i went there, all the staffs ignored me. Other stores ask if I was looking for anything or need help, but this store ignores me. The prices are way more expensive then other pet stores. And I hate their rude attitudes and service. There’s so many pet stores just a few mins from this so just go to another pet store

My review comes as a saltwater fish hobbyist. Honestly, I feel like I could give this business anywhere of a total of 1 – 3 stars depending on the experience. I went with two stars, to average it out.
This place could earn three stars, because they do have a large selection of saltwater livestock, whether it be fish, corals, or other inverts. Plus, they aren’t nearly as expensive as other speciality stores. Not as cheap as say Petco, but much less than other stores.
This place could earn two stars, because while they do have a great selection at great prices, the livestock in the store isn’t always in the best of condition. It isn’t uncommon to see a lot of dead fish, or items sick and near death. It’s especially sad when it’s a rare item, like an anemone that just isn’t getting what it needs to live. In fact, all of the fish tanks are bare bones. No rocks, no sand, no decorations, just water. Fish that perhaps need rocks to hide, or sand to sift, or an anemone that needs strong light, doesn’t have them, which is why they are doing so poor.
In the end, this place should probably get one star because of the service. Selling saltwater livestock requires at least a great deal of knowledge, otherwise it is dangerous. Sadly, it seems that even management and ownership has a huge lack of knowledge. Just an example, I was recently in the store looking for something to feed off of the algae growth we are currently having in my tank. An associate talked up this purple sea slug, or nudibranch, as something that would be perfect for that problem. With that vote of confidence, and the fact that it was just a beautiful creature in general, I had to buy it. As it turns out, not only does it not eat algae, it eats a VERY RARE sponge that you can not even purchase anywhere. Literally, anywhere. A expert on saltwater livestock told me that I may, but probably not, have small little pieces of the sponge in my tank naturally, but once it eats them, there would never be any more, and you just cannot buy it anywhere. In fact, they were shocked that a store would dare sell the creature anyway, because it does not survive in home aquariums. It’s impossible to keep. So basically, I was sold a live animal just to watch it die in my tank, all because a sale associate had no idea what they were talking about, and because ownership doesn’t know better than to sell an animal that cannot survive in captivity.
I did end up calling the store to inform them of this, and that they should not be selling these creatures in the first place. Well, I actually tried calling the corporate office first, but was told the stores are ‘independently owned.’ When I called the store and asked for the owner, I was told they don’t take calls. I asked for the general manager, and they apparently were ‘out of town.’ I did end up talking to the ‘saltwater manager’ who told me they would put a note on my fish club membership to give me a refund next time I am in the store. I am going to stop in over the weekend, and see what happens, so hopefully they will stay true to their word. The funny part is, they want me to bring the slug back dead or alive, which is a lose-​lose either way. If it’s alive, they will just try and resell it to someone else, or have it die in their tank. If it dies in my tank, not only is it incredibly sad that a bought a creature that had no chance of living because of their irresponsibility, but if it does die in my tank, good luck fishing it out. I have a great cleaning crew of snails, shrimp, hermit crabs, and starfish, that will likely eat the dead body before I even notice it. I wonder if they will honor their word if that happens…

I decided to purchase two female hamsters for my daughter for a Christmas present. Initially I was happy with the two female hamsters but a week and a half later one of the females gave birth to 6 babies. I was very surprised and overwhelmed with the fact that one of the female hamsters I purchased was already pregnant and I wasn’t told that by the very informative staff member. I was also surprised that she couldn’t tell that she gave me a pregnant hamster. Just a coincidence? I don’t know but I’m betting she knew that she gave me a pregnant hamster.
The real problem came when I called petland to inform them about what happened and that I needed them to take the babies when they were grown. From that point on I was giving the run-​around by the general manager Dan and this happened for two weeks straight of not getting a call back from him. I feel bad for the petLand employees because they have to deal with the wrath of the angry customers calling when Dan doesn’t call back. Also because the staff was always very nice and courteous on the phone even though I was irate and angry on the phone. I was at the end of my rope and I ended up just bringing the hamsters in and dropping them off at the front desk because I never vote a call back from Dan. I will never purchase another animal from this place again!

The saddest pet store that I have ever seen in my life. Puppies in crates like chattel (products of puppy mills, I would imagine). Unsupervised children roughly handling rodents and small animals (I don’t blame the children; they don’t know any better. The staff and their parents need to educate them on safe handling of mice, guinea pigs, and rabbits). The merchandise does not stand out, and neither do their prices. The animals did not seem comfortable, at ease, or happy.
As an animal lover, the whole place just made me uneasy. The only thing that’s stopping me from giving it one star is that it’s a step-​up from factory farming. Perhaps if Petland focuses on adoptions and what’s best for their animals instead of breeding and profits, then maybe things will improve.

I love this place! I’ve purchased a few fishes here in the past and have had good experiences. It’s definitely one of the better pet stores I’ve been in. Whenever I’m in the area, I stop by to check out what they have in stock.

Biggest Petland I’ve been in. I wouldn’t actually buy pets but the pet supplies were abundant. There is a HUGE aquarium and terrarium section with very exotic fish, amphibians and reptiles. I do feel very bad for the animals, so I’m definitely not advertising for pet shopping here, but other than that, great store.
