We are a family owned 3rd generation hardware store. Four of our eight employees each have over 30 years experience here at General Lumber True Value. Half of our location is a fully stocked hardware store, with paint sundries, cleaning supplies, light bulbs, electrical, plumbing, fasteners, power tools, automotive, and lawn & garden supplies. The other half of our store is a 1,500 square foot window and door showroom, with samples of doors from Jeldwen, Masonite, Simpson, Therma-​Tru, Baldwin Locks, Marvin Windows, and vinyl/​aluminum replacement windows. We are a Marvin Window Dealer and Installer. Come stop in or make an appointment to talk about a current or future project, and we will be glad to supple you with a free estimate and knowledge of the products being used.

Great family owned hardware store. The staff is overly friendly and very helpful. I had a friend that was a contractor in Hoboken and used General Lumber to source all of his materials, he always spoke positively of the shop as well.

Hands down the best hardware store and best family owned shop in the Hoboken/​Jersey City area. Helpful, friendly, appreciative and extremely knowledgable staff. And if you bring a twist of mozz from fiores for the boys you’ll become a favorite very quickly. :). Sweethearts all around. I highly recommend general lumber Hoboken for all your hardware needs.

Is 5 stars all I can give? General Lumber is a perfect 10! The most hospitable, knowledgeable, and professional group of employees one can come by. Not only is their ample selection of products top of the line, but their willingness to provide first rate service is unmatched. General Lumber runs synonymously with «service with a smile». To top if off, the shop dog Woody provides a unique, and amiable environment that i can surely say you wont find anywhere else. No exaggeration, I went in one day for some butane fuel and ended up spending an hour with the employees in the shop just talking about everything and anything. As someone who has much experience with contractors and builders, these guys are top of the line for all your needs. I will be a lifelong customer and I emphatically suggest that you do too!

This is my favorite hardware store in town!
I have been in a bunch of times for household items. It is very clean and organized! They have everything from seasonal items to cleaning products to paint samples. Great stop for DYI projects!
Also, the staff is very friendly and helpful.

I called in to receive a price quote for an interior french door and sliding track and hanger and the gentlemen on the phone was very rude. he gave me a pretty steep price quote which was way above what the competition was quoting and then rudely hung up on me. i would not recommend this store to anyone.
