Applegate Farm

Gosh this place is tasty. They’ve got some really solid flavours, and not this dainty fat free stuff. Prepare to feel full for a week after a large cone, but it’s so worth it. The place is small with no seating and a TV blaring in the corner, but no better ice cream around for a nice summer evening. Enjoy!

Ice cream was terrible! Tasted icy like it was old and had been sitting in the cooler way to long! Seemed like a great place until we got home and threw the entire container out after 2 bites

We walked in for an after-​dinner-​snack and are glad we did!
Décor: It’s an ice cream shop — not much going on and it’s all business here (which is completely fine). There is nowhere to sit, so you’ll be carrying your order out.
Bathroom: Not sure there is one available for customers.
Staff: They guy working was a bit odd… not sure if he was just having an off day but a smile would have been nice. He was also a bit of a low-​talker so it was hard to hear what he was saying. Not sure how old he was but he gave off the vibe of a high school guy who hates his job and does NOT want to be there.
Food: The ice cream is delicious! They have a solid selection of flavors but we went with strawberry (my favorite) and mint (delicious). I also went with a large waffle cone which, I found out, meant four (4!) scoops of ice cream! I’m glad I did though b/​c it was SO GOOD. Oh, and they have more than just ice cream — their chocolate-​covered pretzels and cupcakes looked really good.
Value: It was not overly expensive but cost a bit more than I was expecting. Nothing that would make me think twice about returning, however.
Next time I have a craving for some home-​made ice cream I know where I’m going.

This place has the worst cupcakes I have ever tasted. They weren’t cooked enough, they were very doughy and the frosting was terrible. There was nothing good about them. My husband made the mistake of buying 4 of them.

Walked practically to weehawken (no offense weehawken, you’re a-​ok by me) to get some ice cream that I can’t get in a grocery store or a mall. Be forewarned, this place is deep in the unofficial stroller section of town.
2 scoops in a cup:
Graham central station… So in a former life I lived a stone’s throw from another ice cream establishment that featured a flavor by the same name, and it was my favorite ice cream ever. It was similar in every way but also featured graham cracker dough, which was the buttery crumbly yummy money shot of the flavor. AF’s version was pretty good, but no money shot. 3 stars.
Cake batter… This was vanilla cake batter flavored ice cream with TONS of actual milk chocolatey cake batter folded in. It was literally about half cake batter. Yowza! 5 stars.
Watch out cake batter, I’m coming back for more.

Decent, nothing too fancy. I like the variety of flavors — I think I would enjoy it more if I lived near the area. I did notice that when a customer ordered ice cream with hot fudge on top, the hot fudge was all chunky.

Try Ice Cream Cake, Cookie Dough, Mint Chip, Strawberry. The list goes on and on. This is really amazing ice cream!
Also try their cupcakes. By far their Red Velvet blows the doors off of Crumbs, Magnolia, Sprinkles, etc.

I love the cocconut ice ice cream i think its the best. the only issue i have is with the already made pints/​quarts of ice cream, bought them about two weeks ago for the first time. for some reasons these pints/​quarts tasted funny and wasnt fresh. my advice is ask them to make you a fresh pint/​quart of ice cream.

I work in the area, and I can’t stop myself from going in and getting a chocolate milkshake anytime I’m on 14^th street. I haven’t tried anything else yet, because I’m so addicted to this shake! It’s got the most delicious flavor (it’d fix any chocolate craving in a second), and it’s got a really creamy texture and tangy flavor (which is what a milkshake must must have to be worthy).
I think the price for a small milkshake is a bit much ($ 5.40), but as a treat, it’s nice. Hands down, the best chocolate shake I’ve ever had.
I’d recommend to anyone to go here and check it out.

I am not a big ice cream person to begin with, so it’s really hard to impress me with it. And this place certainly did not impress me. The ice cream was meh at best. We bought a quart of vanilla ice cream for home, and in all honesty it tasted just like Shop Rite brand ice cream. And it had slight freezer burn taste. Really? «Homemade» ??
For really good ice cream, you have to drive all the way out to Long Island: Coyle’s in Bay Shore, NY.

I had been to Applegate Farm at Summit NJ. Compared to the one in Hoboken, the store was bigger and better ice cream. Recently, I bought the Amazon local deal $ 7 for $ 15 ice cream. I was very excited to try the Hoboken location out. However, it was a disappointment. I bought a quart of vanilla ice cream, a cupcake and a median sized cone. We had the cupcake and the cone in the store. The cupcake was pretty dry. The cone was OK, nothing special. The store was so tinny. There were one table and a bench with some chairs. They were all placed right in front of the bathroom. One of the chairs were right next to the bathroom door. It was not appetizing at all! When I took the quart home, I checked the label. It said «Yellow Coloring». No wonder, the color of the vanilla ice cream was more yellow than other ones I had before. Why would they want to put food coloring to make something looked very unnatural?
I will not go back to this place again.

By far the best Ice Cream in the tri-​state. With a twist on classic flavors, while also keeping it simple, their ice cream never disappoints. Absolutely love it here, been to both Hoboken and the Montclair location. Graham central station and the black raspberry are my top choices. Highl

homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt: can’t beat it.
i’ve been to the other applegate farms and each one i’ve been to has been great. ice cream to get-​graham central station and black raspberry are both delicious! the chocolate peanut butter and raspberry chip frozen yogurt are both amazing – could definitely pass for regular ice cream, but without all the guilt!
this hoboken location is small and doesn’t offer a ton of toppings, but the quality is still there. service is slow. be prepared to wait.

Homemade ice cream near the waterfront? I immediately counted myself in. Graham Central Station may be one of the yummiest flavors I’ve tried to date: it tastes exactly like a graham cracker.
Sadly, the interior of this place isn’t so great (very cramped if there is any line at all) and is lacking in décor. This is definitely a «grab and go» kind of place.

I feel like I’m the only one who is not head-​over-​heals about this place. It’s good, but it’s just ice cream that seems to be a bit pricey. The location is teeny-​tiny and there are constantly weird traffic jams since there is no prescribed clear way to enter and get in line. The two times I purchased ice cream there it was good, but not great. One plus is that the staff is nice and you can grab a pretty amazing view of NYC as you enjoy your cup/​cone, while one negative is that there is no place to sit inside so once the winter hits you’re going to have to grab and go home to eat your frozen treat.

When we had my sister over for dinner a couple weeks ago we neglected to get dessert. It was actually a part of my master plan … seeing as I am officially addicted to ice cream. I was actually most surprised by her response when I suggested that we go to Applegate Farms, «you want to drive twenty minutes for ice cream» … I said it was only a few blocks away, much to her surprise! Why drive all the way to Montclair … well, it would have been worth it regardless. Applegate is a welcome addition to the Hoboken scene. With an over populated array of frozen yogurt & ice cream shops, it is clear that Applegate is rising to the top.
I can only speak for myself and say that Graham Central Station is quite possibly one of the most fantasticv ice creams ever made. If you do not believe me, I challenge you to find me a better one … and I will be victorious!

A little pricey, but well worth it for a cone with hard ice cream in a land of fro-​yo and gelato. The graham cracker ice cream gave me a ‘ratatouille moment’ where I was transported into a kindergarten classroom as a 4 year old with a cracker soggy from apple juice in one hand and blanky in the other, getting ready for nap time. Talk about comfort food.

This place has only been open for about a month and I have a feeling they will be around for a while. Applegate Farms sells homemade ice cream. Enough said.
I had the pleasure of trying their Graham Central Station (too funny) and Cappuccino Crunch ice creams. Yummmy!!! The staff is great and their prices are reasonable. They also allow you to sample the goods before you buy… which is a plus. And get your minds out of the filthy gutter. I’m talking about sampling the ice cream lol.
Will be back and this time I will take photos.

The appear to still be working out some kinks (training staff, hours, etc.) but overall, my visit was great and I am very excited that the Montclair-​based shop has ventured east.
