The bentos are pretty good! The lunch meat, spam, and teriyaki beef are thinly sliced, but the mahi and Korean chicken is good. Nice people too :)

Slush float, fried akule, fries! So ono! If you love greasy food and white rice this is the spot for you. The roast pork plate is pretty good too.

Food was good but took a long time to get it. Seems like only one person in front and one person in back

There were no places for a quick bite on a Sunday mid morning and we found Blanes. Good food. Kids and adults were happy. Pastrami sandwich was okay, bacon cheeseburger was one of the better ones The child has eaten. Bento was good, mahi sandwich was better than average but the winner was the Korean Katsu!

Aaaaah, I finally made it to Blane’s Drive Inn today! I’ve seen Blane’s Drive Inn for so many years, but I don’t know why I never stopped by to try some of their eats! Today, I was hungry for a quick breakfast, so I decided to stop by Blane’s, as it was not too far away from the area where I was working. Upon driving up to Blane’s, I park in their large & spacious parking lot. I walk up to the counter to see what they had for breakfast, and I see a sign for their«Breakfast Specials». Upon scanning the list, I decided on the Banana Pancake Special. What’s the Banana Pancake Special you say? Well, for the paltry sum of $ 4.40, you get a delicious banana pancake, 3 bacon strips, & one egg(made anyway you like), I got mine scrambled. I added a coffee to my meal, so it came up to $ 5.38. Hard to find anything now days in the $ 5 range! But if you look hard enough… it can be found! :) What can I say about the grub… 1. The Banana Pancakes was OUTSTANDING!!! Big chunks of bananas wrapped into the soft fluffy pancakes! I loved the banana pancakes so much, I would gladly come back here again just to eat this! 2. Bacon — Well, it was greasy & on the soft side. I ate it anyway, but I should have told them to fry the bacon till it was crispy… that’s on me, I better make a mental note next time, when I come back one day…“ask for crispy bacon!” Check! 3. Scrambled Egg — Made perfectly… but how can you mess up eggs right? Overall, a great breakfast for the price I paid! Like I said before, I would come back here just to eat their banana pancakes! In fact, I liked the banana pancakes here way better than the banana pancakes I had on Maui at Tasty Crust… that’s saying a lot, as Tasty Crusty is known for their banana pancakes! 4. Coffee — Ummmmm, the coffee was lousy! What can I say… you’re far from Starbucks son! I know where I am, and I definitely knew I was not at Starbucks!

Poor customer service. Girl at the counter made me paid for an order she messed up. What I should have done was fly the noodles back at her and tell her I ain’t paying for your mistake.

I found a huge roach in my Mac salad. Not on top. Inside it. Showed it to the lady and she just seemed like whatever. Gave me a hard time about giving me something different. Never eating at another blames again. Ever. Ever ever. Dirty and poor customer service

Blane’s Drive Inn has a lot of options. I had the mahi mahi sandwich. It was a very basic sandwich. I enjoyed it. Odd sign on the soda machine stating it’s an issue of hygiene for customers to refill their cups. Weird.

Went here on the fly. My boss needed to eat before getting on the plane. We got the regular bento which consisted of luncheon meat, teri beef, and I think chicken. I think it was like 5 or 6 dollars which aint bad. The food had good flavor and the portions was decent. The atmosphere seemed like old 60s style drive inn. Definetely an option for my «when I am in hilo» and just need to eat list.

I love their float and have always loved their bento with Korean chicken, sausage, and musubi. Was very surprised that the Korean chicken I ordered this time was crazy salty. The salt numbed the mouth. What happened? It was a take-out and couldn’t return it.

There are two Blane’s in Hilo, FYI. I’ve eaten at this one twice. Once for breakfast, which was very good and excellent price; once for lunch, which, while very cheap, was not so good. My roast pork plate lunch had only a tiny pile of thin shaved pork loaded with fat. I won’t go back for plate lunch. Definitely order the slush float, that was delicious and cheap compared to other places. Service was slow but friendly. Outdoor seating is nice and bright and airy. WHY I ALMOSTBLEWMYTOP: nothing to do with Blane’s, it was a customer. Young father with baby son. When we got there, baby son was standing on a table with bare feet, then rolling around on table clad in diaper, etc. EEEEW. We made a mental note to avoid that table. Well, we felt bad for other customers, as the kid left the first table, rolled around on the ground, then proceeded to rub his dirty little feet and roll his diaper around on at least four other tables while we were there, like the dining area was a naked toddler jungle jim, while Dad just played on his cell phone. Anytime a new table was cleaned the kid would pop up and roll around on it. Finally Mom showed up and did nothing either. I almost said something, but friend held me back. Mom had too many tattoos! FRICKIN’ IDIOTS.

Thank you Unilocal for reminding me to do a review for this place! I don’t really know if it’s a chain or how big it is on the islands, but I loved the plate lunch there. Cheap, filling and just so delicious. Thinking about the food makes me wish I was back there instead of freezing in Chicago. Seriously though, really good food at a fast food setting.

Plate lunch in all its forms, ranging from mediocre to very good. My bf and I ate here twice, lunch and breakfast. The first time he had loco moco(comparing it to Ken’s) with mahi, which was a load, in fact it made him concede defeat to the moco gods: no more starch for a while! I had the teriyaki burger(which was good; the sauce had an unusual twang) and indifferent fries. For breakfast at a later date I had the shrimp and mahi plate lunch. The mahi was VERY good, with crisp and light batter, but I wasn’t feeling the accompanying macaroni salad. He had the beef, chicken and fish plate, which he deemed good but greasy(though such seems the nature of plate lunch, especially at the walk-up window joint). Overall, you could do worse than Blane’s. We ate better on this trip, but this still served up a couple dishes that served as «the bar» to which other places’ dishes got compared.

Comfort food! Great prices! Gravy cheeseburger and thick cut fries, washed down with a ginormous slush float. All pau. Have you ever been high on gravy? Try snarfing down a delicious greasy gravy cheeseburger after working overnight and skipping out on sleep. You’ll be straight up silly. And HAPPY! See photos.
