In the 80s and early 90s, back in an age before Yelp reviews ever existed, Avi Oz was the manager of a moving company. Unhappy with the unscrupulous practices in the industry, he knew it was possible to run a profitable business without exploiting customers. It was then that Oz decided to establish his own company, Oz Moving & Storage. When the company launched in 1993 in New York City, Oz did the unthinkable and put the entire industry on its toes; he put the phone number of the NYSDOT, the regulating body of the moving industry, everywhere, from the sides of his trucks to every Oz Moving ad. Customers could call the D.O.T. to figure out about the reputation of any moving company. Oz wanted customers to make informed decisions, and his efforts helped stomp out fly-by-night scammers from the business, establishing Oz Moving as an industry leader in reliability, transparency, and customer service. More than 20 years later, Oz Moving still maintains these standards.
