Extended Stay America – Portland – Hillsboro

The AC in our room was malfunctioning. I feel sorry for the front desk, she was all by herself to assist all guests that night. She was nice though, she still put up a smile even when shes stressed out.

«The only advantage of this place is location.
There’s a Starbucks at the other end of parking lot, which you’ll need to visit for breakfast as the hotel breakfast is pathetic. There is a Potbelly Sandwich shop next door, so that is a bonus. There are Parks nearby for jogging that are accessible (Rock Creek Park, Evergreen Park). You can also run the sidewalks at night or early morning since they are well lit.
Other than that, it’s a dive. They only clean your room once a week. Pets are allowed, so not super clean in the hallways. The room key/​card keeps needing to be recharged. Washer and dryer are $ 2 each… that gets expensive fast for an extended stay. But… at least the AC unit is loud enough to drown out the slamming doors!»

Room is very spacious. Full size fridge and freezer combo so that was nice to be able to put our left overs in.
Bed was comfortable. They should probably consider new pull out matts.
Staff was friendly. Only two luggage carriers.
3^rd floor is smoking rooms towards the end of the hallway (after room 340). If you are a non smoker and can’t stand the smell, request for beginning of hallway or another floor. The smell was leaking into the hall and smelled pretty strong and bad.
Charged a «housekeeping fee» BUT you only get housekeeping if you stay atleast 1 week!
We tried calling the front desk a few times but no answers.
Would I stay here again. Yes only because it is very roomy.

I had stayed in this hotel on ⁸⁄₂. I was given room which was not cleaned when I checked-​in and initially its said that there were no other rooms available to move. It was very odd response I got on that day. Finally they moved me to other room when i insisted I need cleaned room (after an hour wait). So there was room available still they lied to me saying no rooms available. It was very disappointing experience with this stay.

Booked a bundle package on Expedia, selecting this hotel because of the decent price and close distance to where I needed to be. Here are the pros and cons:
PROS:
— There were cute birds on the ground, outside of lobby, for me to photograph, that’s always a plus for a bird lover like me. Haha
— Decent price
— Free parking
— Hotel has been renovated, so past photos on Unilocal do not reflect that anymore. Check website for newer photos which is what I did and decided to stick with my reservation rather than get scared away.
— Big refrigerator
— Stove for cooking but you’ll have to have your own cookware
— Fairly good space — bed, couch, desk/​work station next to «kitchen»
— My room was on first floor, near front desk, so it was quick in and out access.
CONS:
— Towels are NOT soft, rough like sandpaper
— AC box right next to bed, kinda noisy, hard to sleep
— The curtains pretty much COVER the AC box, so all the air just blows upwards, retains behind the curtain rather than fill the room with cool air. GENIUS design! (not) There should be at least a thin layer of the curtains so you can keep those closed to keep the sun out and let some of that air fill the room.
— The key card stopped working after a while. Each night coming back to room the key did not work. I had to keep going to the front desk to get them to magnitize or whatever. So annoying.
— There are NO laundry bags in the room. Every other hotel I’ve stayed always had laundry bags for you to place dirty laundry in.
— It’s a long walk to the ice machine on the second floor

Location. Location. Location– the rooms are mediocre, they are cleaned once a week. Each added adult is an extra $ 30, added pets are $ 25 per day (cleaning fee). I’m not sure how they can apply the cleaning fee if the rooms are cleaned once a week. We got that waived. There is a Starbucks, nail shop and chipotle in the next parking lot. There were also items left behind from the prior guest (s). The attendant at the front desk (upon arrival) Ted wasn’t very knowledgable. Please pay close attention to your bill upon checkout.

Ugh! I love extended stay but this place was horrible!!! Shower handle broken, no plates available, couldn’t find the television remote. This was honestly the worst! And the stupid thing about it was it was not cheap!!! The bed was small the microwave was loud it just honestly needs an upgrade! I would not recommend this place nor would I advise ANYONE to stay here! Wish I could give 0 starts honestly.

Not impressed. Staff is nice and the room is clean, which is great, but I asked for a queen room, not two doubles. This setup reminds me of my college dorm life, not staying in a hotel with my partner. Also, they neglected to tell us that there was no water pressure or hot water when we got here. Had I known this, I would have asked for a refund and left. We have been on a plane and traveling for the last 15 hours. I wanted to get a hot shower and then head out for plans in the city. Nope! Took more than two hours to even get water pressure, let alone hot water, despite their assurances they were turning it on any minute now, so we had to cancel our plans.
Would not recommend.

The only thing nice here is the location and the staff.
There is a Starbucks basically on the parking lot and the staff was very sweet.
The shower handle was broken, the lamp had no bulb, the security latch on the door was missing… And the hotel was not inexpensive!

Great property — well managed — this is the «newer» model of ESA. Larger rooms, great layout. Great neighborhood — very clean — lots of green space. Directly across the street from a Whole Foods, Starbucks in the parking lot — «The Street» shopping mall a 5 minute walk. This is one of the best Extended Stay America properties I’ve stayed in. Well done.

Not that bad so far. paid $ 44 for 6 days no pet fee! The room seems clean and like a studio apt for the hubby, I and 2 poms. There wasn’t any utensils or cookware ask for them but had to leave. Will they be there? Doubt it but that’s cool, just hope the dogs aren’t barking!

Better than a year ago. Staff was nice at checkin wi-​Fi is not the best have to pay for faster and to do work. Wi-​Fi doesn’t work well on mobile devices. The grab and go breakfast is more go then grab.
Inside the rooms are not bad well decorated and fairly clean for the price.

Let’s start by saying the staff is not the friendliest of all kind. Nonetheless, the worts thing was that all three of us woke up the night after we checked in with red spots that were itchy. Bed bugs! Or spider! On of us developed an allergic reaction that caused him to swell even more than the rest of us and his body was all cover with these spots.
After a long night they were able to move us to a different hotel.
I would not book here again if I can avoid it.

Horrible! Checked in, pulled the covers down and there were pubic hairs on the sheets. When I told the front desk, instead of apologizing they kept telling me how they were certain the sheets had been changed.
The trash cans in the vending areas were overflowing with dirty diapers and smelly trash.
I would never stay there again.

I am giving 1 star for furnishings and comfort. But if you are looking for a hotel for service (isn’t that what we are paying for?), this place is not for you. Upon check in the front desk attempted to overcharge us. We are staying 2 nights, but there is NO housekeeping service. Hotel policy is to clean rooms 1x week !! After 1 night I asked nicely to have the room serviced but the front desk clerk was adament on hotel policy and they were short of staff. You can exchange the towels. The bath towel given to me upon trade from her front desk was frayed and worn. Take and Go breakfast was big disappointment, packaged muffins, fruit out of season and tasteless, and non dairy creamer for the coffee. BTW, the rates are not cheap, so stay at your own risk.

There were dirty dishes with lipstick around the rim of all the glasses, all if the knives had caked on peanut butter and jelly (or at least I hope that’s what it was)
The two chairs in the room had disgusting white stains covering them including one very distinctive stain indicative of butt/​crotch sweat and/​or other bodily fluids.
The woman at the front desk could not explain to me why I was being charged $ 50 more than what my initial online reservation indicated.
Broken air conditioner in the bedroom was a bit disappointing as well.

I made my reservation through Priceline express deals. It said it included a 2.5 star hotel (name not listed until booked) that allowed pets and included breakfast. I booked it. I called ahead to request a pet friendly room on the ground floor with two beds and was told they could only offer a studio and I needed to contact Priceline. What a joke.
When I got there, I was almost charged a daily fee that was MORE than what I paid for the hotel room each night for my pet.
I refused and they backed down.
Then even knowing I had a arthritic dog that could barely walk 2 feet, they put me on the third floor farthest from the ONE elevator. Again, the blame was placed on Priceline and they said it was out of their hands.
The room was filthy with layers of dust on the lampshade, stained carpets, film on drinking cups (my kids drank nothing all week-​end), hairs found under the pillows, no ice buckets nor apparently any ice machines to be found on the premise, thin towels, no bedding on our fold out arm chair (yep too cheap for a couch) and much more.
No dish soap, mismatched kitchen items and not enough forks and spoons. One load’s worth of dishwasher soap and no maid service to replenish. The room vassilated between incredibly hot and frigid. The room was incredibly small and when the arm chair folded out, it connected with the TV cabinet so you literally had to jump over the bed to get to the kitchen or door.
Due to room location, I ended up having to lift my 70 lb dog, walk the 100 yards to the elevator or walk up and down the four flights to get my dog outside in time for the bathroom. Yes, I had to lift said 70 lb dog over the fold out bed as my children slept. Seriously no one could have taken heart and found us a ground floor room as I requested weeks before in my phone call? Employee after employee saw us struggling with his 16 year old dog and nothing.
Let’s continue with the fold out. It was ½ as narrow as a twin. Yes let’s call it a toddler bed that my 6’1″ teen son was forced to use. His feet actually came over the end. It came with no bedding except sheets. We tried to call down, bu the phone button to the lobby never worked… ever.
My son walked down late the first night and they gave him what looked to be a think blanket. It wasn’t until we were leaving that I realized it was actually a mattress pad. No wonder he was freezing.
The good? The bathrooms were fine. The blowdryer did the job. The wifi worked if a little slow. The water pressure was adequete.
More bad? The ironing board actually fell off the wall. One small shampoo and conditioner was furnished for all three days we were there.
Saving the best for last? BREAKFAST. Yep, we were promised a breakfast with our priceline purchase. Breakfast was chewy granola bars, weak coffee, hot chocolate and oatmeal packets, sad looking apples, and prepackaged muffins… and that is if they were replenished. Often times, my kids went down and the baskets were empty.
No milk or yogurt. No juice. No utensils or plates. They had a large breakfast room and we never saw anyone in there. Basically breakfast was pre-​packaged CRAP you would take for a snack. Not even a toaster or cereal much less some eggs or protein. Do not tell me that is breakfast.
So, you tell me is a granola bar breakfast, no maid service, and a flithy room without bedding and a non-​functioning phone worth 2.5 stars that Priceline said?
Nope! I will never trust Priceline again. For $ 40 more, I could have stayed closer to the aquatic complex with full delicious breakfast at the Homewood Suites Hillsboro/​Beaverton.

One of those no-​frills, stay a long time kind of places; I was only there two nights, chose the hotel because of is location and price, I like the larger living area and kitchenette, and have had good experience with other properties in the chain.
My room was large enough — small kitchenette, kitchen table, living area with couch long enough to stretch out on and recliner, queen bed and small bath. TV rotates 180 degree so you can watch from almost anywhere.
While I found the room updated and nice enough, the shared spaces (halls, stairways, lobbies) were a little beat-​up. I pictured the 1000’s of constructions crews and utility workers who frequent this sort of place just beating it up over the years — little things — worn floors, dented doors, scraped stairwells, but it adds up.
The low ratings for me were primarily due to the bed — mattress was spongy soft and totally worn out, surprising for any hotel, and when the paper thin fitted sheet slipped off overnight, the mattress was split. Sheets worn and thin, blanket about 2′ too short for the bed. Not a great night’s sleep.
In addition, the windows had just one curtain — so the options were wide open to the parking lot /​pool or totally blacked out. Would have liked a sheer curtain to provide some natural light with a bit of privacy.
Finally, most of the doors I encountered in the facility slammed behind me. Room, stairs, laundry area. After a while I learned to wait and help the door close quietly, but I am sure I annoyed some folks until I figured that out. And needless to say, I was disturbed by slamming doors several times each night.
Did not waste my time at the minimal breakfast — a rack of granola bars, some instant oatmeal, a bowl of apples and oranges along with coffee. There was a Starbuck’s across the lot which was worth the trip.

Pros: location, price
Cons: noise from above, poor wifi coverage, wifi fees for higher speeds
Ask for a room on the top floor and close to the lobby. There appears to be no wifi coverage at the back of the hotel. Lots of noise from upper floors, so stay on the 3^rd floor if possible.
Location is great, walking distance to starbucks, peets, whole foods, and a mall.

Location, Location, Location!
Starbucks next door, Whole Foods, The Streets of Tanasbourne, … in walking distance. Quickly on and off Sunset Hwy (US-​26). And … my favorite Nice Rice.
The hotel is clean and a good deal for the price. Only drawback I see, the free Internet access is often a pain but borderline usable. But hey, just walk over to Starbucks for free and fast WiFi :-)
And the hotel offers free breakfast — nothing to get crazy about but free!
Not to forget the pool in the summer time — great for kids.
