The Eggs Nest

Wonderful eclectic decorations. Have never had a bad meal there. Will always be a place filled with memories. Every year Eggs Nest was a part of our Christmas celebrations. First chop down our Christmas tree, after a wonderful afternoon surrounded by mountains, streams, quaint businesses, this is where you end up. It feels like home, the waitstaff so helpful, and capable. First thing, some homemade cider (with or without) family friendly menu. Definitely worth a visit, you will make it part of your memories.

My absolute favorite restaurant when I come up from NYC for a weekend. Quirky, eclectic décor, friendly proprietor, good food and drinks make this a solid bet anytime.

2^nd time here in the last month, this place is on our list now as a regular even though it’s 35 – 40 minutes away. We used to come here 20 some odd years ago and then the family started so we stopped. Same owner for 40 years and excellent casual dining try it

Everything we had was bland, smashed together, soggy, and just boring. Would not go again.

Excellent food and service! I had the Thanksgiving Sandwich. My friend had the Kale Brussel Sprout Salad. Both were great and freshly made. The waitress and bartender were very attentive and the décor really fun.

If you’ve never been to The Egg’s Nest, it’s worth adding a «brace yourself» for their décor. From the outside in, the entire restaurant is covered in baubles and florals and trinkets and all manners of chintzy, weird little knick knacks.
I really like that the décor (while very vivid and impossible not to comment on) doesn’t completely overshadow the food. Like, it’s not just «That place with all the decorations in High Falls,» it’s «That place with all the decorations in High Falls that makes really good tempeh.»
I used to go to Egg’s Nest a lot more in my college days, which is also when I was a vegetarian. I’ve always loved that they have a lot of meat-​free options that are fulfilling and creative. I know I’ve experienced countless boring meals because the restaurant I was at just tacked on one or two boring vegetarian options to their menu.
Egg’s Nest is always an experience because of their eccentricity, but they have the food to back it up and make it a really well-​rounded, enjoyable place for a meal.

Staying nearby and decided to stop here for our first dinner in the area. The funky exterior and other Unilocal reviews brought us in. The beef wrap I had was average, the wine had a gnat, the buddah bowl my girlfriend had «left something to be desired». We felt the service was slow and inattentive.
It seemed like more attention was put towards the décor than food and service. However, a guy next to us said they served the «best nachos [he] ever had».

So what I like about this place first off is the intimate setting: it’s very small inside but I prefer that when I go out. The food is very good; I love the salads mostly because that is just what I like to eat but I have been told that he quesadillas and the thanksgiving are delicious! If you are in the mood fit something different but good quality and not too pricey I recommend this place (not if you are opposed to small places though!)

Comfort food that’s healthy and creatively prepared in a whimsical atmosphere that’s basically a giant art project for the owner. Every inch of wall space has something bright and colorful on it. It’s near some of the trailheads in the Mohonk Preserve so after a day of hiking you can stop here and get something tasty. I had chili with fresh cornbread and it was perfect.

This is a really cool place. Tight inside but at the same time good for kids/​small groups as it’s pretty laid back. Tons of vegetarian options. The martinis were soooo good… and come with a «sidecar» which basically fills the glass again! The drink prices were very reasonable. ($ 7 for Martini and specials on certain nights). I would like to go back and try some of the other menu items when I’m in the area. Definitely glad we checked this place out.

Disconcerting to have a ‘cash only’ policy and not sure if this is just an iconoclastic ‘slap on the face’ gesture to corporate America or simply a way to maximize net revenue (at the expense of customers’ inconvenience). Nonetheless, the food is good and one would be hard-​pressed to find anything substantive to complain about. The ATM in the front is a rather pathetic looking disaster and given the ‘cash only’ policy makes me wonder where the ATM fee goes. The menu is very diverse and if you can’t find something that appeals to you then you’re way too picky. Overall, the idiosyncratic nature of the ambiance is consistent with the menu. It’s worth a try and is a good alternative to (shudder) chains which are a bit rare in the area anyway…

I really wanted to like this place. Even as I write this review I struggle to put my finger on why only 2 and not 3 stars. Still, «I’ve experienced better,» is the only way I can really qualify my rating. The Eggs Nest has a few things going for it. Décor, friendly staff, funky/​hippy vibe, diverse menu, these are all strengths for this local «restaurant.» Unfortunately, these elements and their execution just don’t come together to set this place apart.
First, I’m not sure if this is a bar/​pub or a restaurant. I’m all for blurred lines, but in this instance, the line isn’t blurred enough. I get the impression that its restaurant in the front, dive bar in the back.
Second, while the food was average, my Sam Adam’s Summer Ale tasted very off. Ultimately, this alone may have sealed the fate of this review.
Sadly, while the place seemed decently maintained and the bathroom was clean (a good gauge on overall maintenance), I was not sold on the experience.

The good:

The bad:
Tight parking, even for a small joint.
A little over the top eclectic décor.
The servers were as friendly as could be. The owner (manager?) was so charmed by our kids that they gave them dessert on the house – chocolate fantasy, which they loved.
Pretty standard chicken fingers but very good fries.
Sesame crusted salmon special with black bean sauce was cooked spot on. Side salad, rice, mixed veggies and an outstanding slice of cranberry corn bread at $ 19 – quite a meal, quite a value.
I’m not a local and I wouldn’t travel nearly 2 hours to return. However, if I found myself within 30 minutes, I’d definitely seek it out.

This place is perfectly OK for anyone passing through town as a tourist… but I wasn’t wowed enough to come back here with all the other varied options that have sprung up around the neighborhood.
The service was bleak, the décor was aggressively spastic and way past kitsch and the food was bland. I got the Fish and Chips: 2 small-​ish, fish sticks that had zero flavor and consisted mostly of fried batter with some fries and a big bowl of cole slaw. The slaw was the largest portion of the entire dish. I should have gotten the pulled pork burrito… it tasted way better (and was twice as much food!).
The star of my meal was the corn bread with raisins. Unexpected, but very welcomed: this was the best part of the entire dish. Perhaps they should reconsider running a restaurant and switch over to bakery?
My theory for cash only establishments: You better knock my socks off to make me not gripe about the fact that it’s 2015 and I have to use an ATM or whatever change I happen to be carrying around with me. This place didn’t live up to that standard — by a long shot. Pass on by The Eggs Nest and hit up another place that’s more welcoming with better food and less emphasis on tacky décor.

The BEST food EVER… PERIOD.4 of us went to eat ourselves to death and we did. apps:calamari, wings (best ever) mussels (awesome) mandarine martini. i shoulve ordered 45 of them, it was so good. main dishes consisted of cilantro shrimp linguini.gazpacho.and burrito. cozy atmosphere.its the best

This place is worth going to for the décor alone. The owner paints every surface and occasionally goes back and starts over. It has a gypsy tent feel.
I’m a fan of the food, too, as it’s vegetarian friendly. But there’s plenty there for meat lovers.

What a weird place. The décor is outrageous and really flamboyant — sticks out compared to others in the area. I am between a 3 and a 4 for this place. The chicken wings were really the most memorable part of the meal. They were cooked to crispy perfection and just enough crunch texture-​wise. The flavor wasn’t too disappointing, but not too exciting either. I would describe the flavor as meh.
I ordered the pesto beef rolls. The platter is huge, so be sure that you’re hungry. The colors of the dish were so festive that it must mean that I’m eating healthy, right? Hah. I wasn’t too crazy about the overload on cheese in the wrap. The beef was good. The most disappointing part of the dish was the «hoisin mayonaise» — probably two things that should never be combined. It tasted like a weird cold medicine taste and probably the after taste was way worse than what hits you at first. Not too sure why this is a real sauce — I’d be happy with more of a creamier sauce or tangy or tarty sauce along with the saltiness of the other ingredients in the dish. First time that I don’t finish the sauce in a dish!

The food was pretty good, except for the bread, which was AWESOME. Otherwise, I ordered the eggplant napoleon, and I found it was perfectly acceptable, but nothing really special. My husband ordered the Thanksgiving sandwich, which was very good, though messy (it was good when dipped in gravy and cranberry sauce, rendering it a sloppy sandwich!). My dad ordered a quiche, which he was a bit underwhelmed by. We also ordered onion straw appetizers, which were good. The interior of the restaurant is cute and adorably decorated and the service was good.
Bottom line — when coming here just make sure to try some bread. Their cornbread is AWESOME.

Vegeterian-​friendly. My salad bowl with rice and guacamole was very satisfying and tasty. the only little thing — salad was made from one of the «coarse» romaine lettuces and I personally find it too «tough» texture-​wise, otherwise it would be perfect. service was attentive and friendly.
