Tiki Mon Hawaiian Ice Cream & Cafe

There’s been a few times here where I’ve had a great experience, and sometimes it’s been less than stellar.
I’m not sure if they serve food anymore, and even when they did for sure there were a few times where they were reluctant to make me anything, and kind of gave me an attitude about it. Weird.
There have been other times where I’ve come in for some simple coffee and had somewhat of a pleasant experience. But after coming in for iced coffee last time and being given like warm coffee with two ice cubes (first world problems), I think I’ll start finding my coffee and desserts elsewhere.

This place is horrible. The man behind counter gives crappy service and is very impatient. I asked for a sample of ice cream and he told me to save my spoon because they were running low… So he could reuse the spoon he gave me and use it to double dip!!! WTF?
We ordered shaved ice which was a joke. It was crushed ice, like the snow cones you get from the ice cream man.
Don’t bother with this place. It appears as if the ownership changed. This place used to be called Lapperts.

Stopped at this place on our way home from redondo beach biking for a sweet treat. You walk in and it is literally 15 degrees warmer inside than it is outside! The girl behind the counter didn’t really want to suggest anything so we just had to ask each other what we wanted. We then ask about the flavors of the Hawaiian shaved ice and she gave us three recommendations. Then we said the first once… Walked away for her to make it, then she asked «what flavors did you want again» (so obviously she was very space-​y since she was the one who recommended the flavors). We ended up getting pineapple, coconut with a scoot of vanilla style Hawaiian Shaved ice. It was basically an snow one and nothing comparable to authentic Hawaiian shaved ice. But of course, when you haves Hawaiian shaved ice in Hawaii, it’s hard to judge. They really shouldn’t call it Hawaiian at all. It’s nothing like Hawaiian shaved ice. It’s a dessert, snow cone, ice cream stop.

Needed some dessert after lunch, and came across Tiki Mon.
When we walked in, there were a couple of staff standing and chit chatting, and while we were going over the menu, they disappeared. We tried looking for them and calling for help, but we shrugged it off and proceeded to the exit. One of the staff rushes towards us offering to help and we end up ordering a large shaved ice (shaved ice with up to 2 syrup choices) for $ 5. The ice wasn’t shaved quite enough; it was still a bit too «chunky» in my opinion.
All in all, we might try this place again, but there’s definitely lots of other yummy dessert shops that are a go-​to for us.

The service here was terrible. We were helped by an older guy (I’m guessing the owner because who else could get away with being so incredibly rude.) He had a bad attitude about paying with a credit card. Really? You’re using square. It’s 2.75% of a $ 6 ice cream. Stop complaining and scoop. Avoid this place at all costs. I’d rather never eat ice cream again than deal with people like this.

My family has been here 3 times in the past couple of weeks (why? that is a good question!) and each time, the service has been amazingly rude. When I am going to spend $ 6.25 for a shake or buy $ 25 of ice cream, the least you can do is be patient and friendly. Or, at least not flat out disgusted by us not ordering fast enough. High prices, I can understand. The rent must be very expensive. The location is prime.
I would suggest walking over to Paradise Bowls or Paciugo. I have never had a bad experience at either of those places. And… their food is much better.
Honestly, I hate writing a bad review. We’ve all had bad days. But, the service here is consistently miserable. The ice cream is okay. But, the location and ice cream are not worth the beating you will take.

When i’m in the mood for some hawaiian flavored ice cream this is the spot. Whether its some kona coffee, macadamia nut, or coconut ice cream this is the place to get it and take a walk along the strand.
Not cheap, but location, location, location.

Ice cream was decent. A single scoop was plenty for an after dinner dessert. I had the mint choc chip.
Sales person was nice and mentioned that ‘Hawaiian ice cream’ had more cream content as opposes to regular ice cream.

To sum It up: Bad service & completely overpriced.
Ice cream and coffee are both happy and enjoyable. But when you have terrible service, it’s not even worth it, and can really ruin the whole experience.
And a ridiculously overpriced Iced coffee for $ 4-​$ 5…

Good Service is better than Good Food! Bad service will always… again, always… outweigh good food.
The ice cream was Ok. The coffee was above average. If the service was only a little bit better, maybe I would recommend it to Unilocal users. Since the service was as bad as the servers mood… I would say STAY AWAY!!!
The attendant on may 10 2014 (Alexa), 8:43 pm was very rude. Smile is the easiest service you can offer. How expensive could a smile be? We got no smile from her at all. She threw the ice cream scoops in the sink like kid throwing a tantrum. Hmmm… maybe it’s that time of month.
There were many ice cream choices. That’s a pro for them. They let you taste and choose before you order. Another pro. The cons, that night… Alexa wasn’t very accommodating. We wanted to try out some more samples but maybe she just wanted us to order and just leave.
She did let us try some samples but also told us in an irrate manner if there is anyone else who knows what they want? In the first place, the reason why you try out samples so u could decide what u want. She also kept us waiting at the counter and did not serve us at once because we were still discussing what we want and we stood at the counter long. We were also in a line but another customer came in whom she knows and she served that first even if we were lined up. VERY RUDE!!! Will not be coming back to this place again!!! ice cream is ok but not worth it with this service.
After a quick dessert and coffee, I left the place feeling disappointed with not just the service but also how different Alexa treated my race. No smiles for asians but all smiles and good service for everyone else???
Oh and I left her a tip… something far better than a few dollars… a tip she can bring with her everyday… SMILE =)

1. The man at the counter was grumpy. Not friendly or helpful.
2. I ordered a fruit smoothie. It was so nasty. It tasted like chunky ice with a hint of fruit. I expect to get a smoothie with actual fruit in it for $ 6. I offered it to all my friends at the beach because it was disgusting. One of them said it tasted like throw-​up.
I will not return.

Tiki Mon may be more than just an ice cream shop (with café food, bike rentals, and surfing lessons), but I just came for the ice cream.
Aloha to 2 scoops for $ 5.50. The cup is medium, but the scoops are small. The guy scooping the scoops was cool, but I kind of was expecting more. My flavor choices were Almond Praline and Black Cherry Vanilla and both were totally a-​ok.
With a Hawaiian theme, I was imagining sensory overload with tiki torches and tiki idols in a tiki hut. Maybe I watched the Brady Bunch a little too much as a kid. The reality was that Tiki Mon was a small and comfortable ice creamery at the Hermosa Beach Pier surrounded by bars and gift shops. The patio out front will give you a front seat to see all of it.
Tiki Mon Hawaiian Ice Cream and Café is convenient if you are already at the pier and in the mood for ice cream or dessert.

This place is over priced for what it is. I stopped in for what I thought would be great tasting ice cream, wrong. The kona ice cream barely had a coffee taste.
I got two scoops, my chick got one scoop. 12 bucks! I think I’ll hit up a 31 flavors next time. Never again.

I loved the «island» feel that I get when i stepped in. In the heat, the ice-​cream was so delightful. In my opinion, the price for one scoop in a sugar bowl was a little too expensive. However, boyfriend and I decided to forget our troubles and enjoy our day. The ice-​cream was pretty good actually, but a little too sweet.

«Shave ice»…NOT! Supercute place with the Hawaiian motif but the «shave ice» advertisement is a misnomer. It was more like CHUNKY ice with flavored syrup on top. I wouldn’t even consider this a snow cone. Fail! And my bad, I paid $ 4 for this. I should have known better. Even my kid knew this wasn’t shave ice as we are accustomed to in Hawaii.
I didnt get to try the ice cream. The girl behind the counter didnt seem to know anything about the ice cream brand. So if it’s a hot day, yes, the $ 4 per scoop may be justifiable in this high rent part of Hermosa Pier.

During a beach bonding trip with my cousin, we found ourselves at Tiki Mon Hawaiian Café. Every time I’m at the pier, I’m always curious about this place. It’s so cute looking on the outside with their Hawaiian décor: bamboo chairs and straw hat umbrellas. Alas’ beach day with my cousin seemed like a perfect time to try this place out.
The inside is very small with just a couple of tables. When we went there as no one else dining. We were greeted right away with the teenage cashier who greeted us with a loud «Aloha!» Their menu consists of all kinds of goodies like crepes, ice cream, shaved ice, coffee and hot chocolate. It was a rather chilly day this day and so my cousin chose to get a hot chocolate. I chose to get the lava float. I was quite intrigued with the concept of ice cream in hot coffee. With this drink you get your choice of ice cream. I chose to get the cookies and cream flavor.
My lava float was alright. I could definitely taste the sweet ice cream in the drink. Basically the ice cream acted as the creamer to the coffee. The hot coffee ended up being cold however because of the ice cream. Although it was tasty, I think I would prefer a straight up hot drink or straight up ice cream next time. The mix of the two just was OK for me.
I think this place is really cute and the folks working here were friendly (from the guy who helped us out in the beginning to the girl who thanked us when we left), I’d love to be back to try ice cream or the other hot drinks (separately this time and not together ;).

I read some of the negative reviews, but I had an entirely different experience at the Tiki Mon Hawaiian Café.
I rolled up in here with an entire mob of children. My friend was with her three boys. Her friend had two kids, and I was here with my only child. My daughter had the cookie swirl ice cream. I ordered a coconut cake, which we shared with the boys. Everything was delicious. There was a bubbly tall girl who made us feel welcomed.

Who wants some ice cream? Cute place right on pier row in Hermosa! But honestly, not sure how (or if) it will continue to survive. Sad, but true.
In a location filled with restaurants and bars making $ 20-​$ 40+ per customer… it’s not close enough for beach-​goers laying out by the water (200+ yards away) on a hot day… so they must hold out for the occasional $ 3 walk-​by customer. And, due to paid parking issues, it’s not like you can quickly run in and grab something on the go.

I have a one-​track mind and this weekend I may or may not have been obsessed with a particular ice cream. I called several specialty stores looking for macadamia nut ice cream, preferably Lapperts (not B&J chocolate macademia in a pint). I called three Whole Foods (El Seg, Torrance and Redondo), Bristol Farms in PV and Marukai. None had the ice cream I so desperately craved!
By accident, I ended up n Hermosa Beach and this little gem of a shop had (O.M.G.) LAPPERT’S MACADEMIA NUT ICE CREAM. It was about $ 5 for a medium cup. It was slightly melted; however, I was so excited I just didn’t care that I just paid too much!

Went for a nice walk with my dog at the Hermosa Beach and I was in a desperate need for hot coffee. It was like 50 something degree’s outside and windy. I just saw a sign that said «COFFEE» so I walked in and noticed the whole Hawaiian theme inside this café. They also sold a variety of different ice creams which looked quite tempting.
I ordered a large Kona coffee and Espresso chip ice cream to share with Mr. Sweets addict. Also got their small coffee. Considering how good the ice creams were, I didn’t feel too bad paying $ 6.75 for a Large. Afterall, these people have to pay rent which I’m sure is $$$$. Also the $ 2.50 small coffee was pretty darn good Kona Coffee. Ehhh, could’ve went to Starbucks down the block but I hate their BLACK bitter acidic nasty coffee. I’d come here again if I’m in the area. Great place to chill next to the beach and people watch!
