Went here for dinner Saturday evening. Alec was our server and he did a good job. We ordered the pierogi nachos and wings as an appetizer. The nachos were amazing and delicious. They were a little greasy but that comes with the territory of pork belly. The wings had good flavor but were just on the edge of being cooked. Any more pink and I would have had to send them back. For entrees we ordered a cowboy burger with truffle fries and the fried chicken with macaroni and cheese. The burger was delicious and the fried chicken was one of the best I have ever had. It had crispy skin, was tender, juicy, and the flavor of pickles came through thanks to the brine. The truffle fries were disappointing as they were soggy. Overall it was a great visit and we will definitely be back.

Excellent fried chicken, which is very hard to find Virginia. The bacon & parmesan fried potato chips were pretty good. It would have been better with seal salt, but if the chips did have sea salt I couldn’t tell. The French Dip was bland, no taste. However, it was still good bc it was very fresh. But the fried chicken was excellent!

First time experience. The crab hush puppies and the sweet potato tots with their magical sauce were the highlights for sure. However, this veggie bene was an absolute disaster. It’s supposed to be poached eggs with spinach and avocado on their veggie loaf. Instead, I got roasted asparagus. When I asked our server(who’s name I don’t remember since he never introduced himself, buzz cut tall fellow), «corrected» the mistake by bringing me a side of raw spinach and avocado, rather than having the dish be remade the correct way. He then, very curtly, checked in asking if the avocado had made everything better. Needless to say, I was unimpressed with this experience.

I’ve never gotten to say this in a review, but I was happy to say a new promising restaurant opened up nearby where I live! My girlfriend and I have been numerous times, and as always– starting off by saying the service was satisfactory to exceptional… everyone has been friendly and exerted the energy you want in a server. Anyways, on the last visit, we did kind of a free-for-all ordering. I threw in some wings to start, then we ordered our entrees and I said straight up that everything can come out as it is ready(we weren’t attempting to do some prolonged coursed meal). I got a turkey avocado sandwich(I’m that guy that said no guac) with parm truffle fries and my girlfriend got a Greek pita wrap I believe it was with the same fries. All the food came out as planned, though my girlfriend asked for no olives in her sandwich, and a little thing like the extra dressing for the wings slipped up, but that happens. I also told my girlfriend she ordered way too fast(haha) and didn’t give her a chance to write(as working in the service industry the thing to avoid problems like this are to repeat the order back), but again, it really doesn’t bother me. I would never rate lower for such a minor accidental error. I also got two beers and a nice pour of Espolon(happy she knew what neat pouring meant), most people waste a lime and don’t acknowledge the simple meaning of it(and I was asked if I wanted a lime! :-P). Just liquor out the bottle, please! We had gotten a mojito here before– flavored… which they didn’t really have options for. I assumed when we asked for a strawberry mojito and they couldn’t make it was obviously due to not having strawberries… or any other fruit that could be used to make one like berries or something, but they did make a blood orange one for us instead– thanks! My only negative throw on this is that I’m about to egg their creativity a little bit… When we got fries, I asked for ketchup. They have ketchup but recommend their own version. That’s fine– we will try it… and we did. It’s OKAY. Am I too used to standard ketchup? Maybe it was too light and an awkward sweetness. I AM trying to overthink this. It attached the idea to when I got wings, and they don’t have bleu cheese dressing. Totally cool, but when we’re trying to recreate ketchup(something that already works great), it felt like a trade out for something that could have been offered. I’m sure someone every now and again asks for bleu cheese for a salad dressing or something. Bleu cheese crumbles can be used for martinis. Just pointing out having it could be multiple uses around the restaurant. New patio space looks really nice too. I really like the layout. Could have been awful with the amount of space in there but it feels like you have an abundance of room wherever you sit. Plenty of booth seating if you get in early, as people generally prefer this.

I love Toast, so, I thought I’d love Hutch! We have visited here twice now(the first time during their first few weeks) and both times felt the food was lacking, especially for the price, and the service is mediocre. The restaurant and bar were very busy on our most recent visit(a Friday night) but the atmosphere is lacking something. I had the seafood curry special(wish was a noodle dish and it was cold by the time it got to me) which I felt I could’ve made at home and it had more flavor. The shrimp and mussels were great quality however. My husband got the bacon bleu burger and thought it was OK except he ordered medium and it arrived Well done. Probably wont be back here.

Hutch was everything I needed and more. After coming home from a cruise, I was feeling extremely sluggish and in need of something green(read: a salad)! My fiancée and I were spending some time at Regency and were hangry after a couple hours of sifting through Macy’s liquidation sale. I remembered that Hutch was right down the street, so boom. That’s where we ended up for dinner. Thank goodness they had some good looking salads on the menu. I chose to get the caesar salad with salmon. I was obsessed with this salad from the first bite. I have seriously never tasted salmon so perfectly cooked before. I was expecting a puny helping, but this piece was on the bigger side! The dressing was amazing as well and complimented the salad perfectly. My fiancée loved his food! He ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. We both were so surprised at the amount of food on his plate. He couldn’t even get through half of it. Yay for leftovers! Sidenote: The sweet tea is legendary. Everything about Hutch is great and we can’t wait to go back!

Finally got to try Hutch on a Thursday night. Went in around 8, and I was surprised to see almost every table filled in the very dark dining area… probably too dark. I wasn’t extremely hungry, so I got the fried chicken salad, which was really pretty perfect. I usually don’t like tomatoes on a salad that also has fruit, but the flavor didn’t clash. I was dying to try their Brussels sprouts, so I got them, too and ended up taking half home. They were pretty good, but mine are better ;-) The sauce on them is kinda weird and not necessary, but still good. Service was adequate. I don’t know that I’d go out of my way to go back to Hutch, but it’s definitely the best place to eat for standard American fare in that immediate area.

Love this place. Food is unique, and fresh. Something in the menu for everyone. Reasonable prices, good happy hour. Feels clean and has great atmosphere. The porch is a great addition. Service is great. I love that you can get chef-prepared food at a reasonable price and a casual atmosphere. Can’t go wrong here.

Nice, welcoming, but somewhat somber atmosphere greeted us as we entered on our first visit to Hutch, and on this visit for lunch they scored well on many points while missing a few. 5 stars– Crispy Brussels Sprouts were salty, crispy, tender, creamy and have been added to my addiction file The Grilled Fish Tacos were perfectly prepared, with texture and balance of flavor well thought out, and the 3 tacos for $ 11 made for a meal in themselves Jambalaya was amazing with fresh clams, mussels and shrimp that were cooked perfectly, along with the wild rice flecked throughout that gave texture to this mildly spicy dish. The Va. sausage added great bursts of saltiness and bite, complementing the seafood well. 3 stars — Crab Mac n Chz gets 4 stars for the actual mac n Chz part which was sharp, creamy and not mushy or under done. But the Crab element was almost missing entirely with approximately 3 tbsp of bland shredded crab scattered on top of the Mac adding absolutely zero Crab flavor. And for $ 16 garnered 2 stars splitting the difference to a 3 for the entire dish — ‘Nuff said One other minor, but unappetizing moment was experienced when my Arnold Palmer was refilled for the one and final time with unsweetened tea and lemonade, instead of sweetened tea and lemonade, making it tart and akin to watered down lemonade. Our Hostess/Server was off; seeming, and being, so lackadaisical she didn’t show us the specials until asked, while never pretending to crack a smile, nor refilling our drink glasses, barring the one time after appetizers were finished, leaving us drinkless through most of our entrees to paying the check. My glass was actually refilled by someone other than our server when seeing it empty while walking through the dining room The cleanliness of the bench, table and floor in the area we sat was on par, but the blinds at our window were caked with dust with an old sugar packet resting on the window sill, while flies and gnats circled our booth. I would definitely return though, as the lesser starring moments were minor in toto, but I’d avoid the Crab Mac and instead order more of their appetizers that for me, and the money, are worth a trip back. And I think I’d choose a table seat over the booth and hope the server dosed on Red Bull and sunshine, not Sleep Eze and gloom.

I came into Hutch expecting to give them 5 stars because of the great reviews and how much everyone had talked about the place. But that’s obviously not what happened. It started off great but just went downhill from there. Our waitress came past and served us our drinks, we needed a few moments to decide on what to order because we are first timers. It took us maybe 5 mins to choose everything but there was no waitress to be found ?? It took us 15 mins and then I said it was enough, I called another waitress over and asked her to please call over our waitress. She apparently couldn’t find her so instead she took our order. It was not like they were busy it was 1 pm. We didn’t see our waitress again until our appetizers came out. And she didn’t even apologize for all the mix up. Anyways food was great I had the breakfast burger and sweet potato tots. The tots weren’t my thing but I can see why people like them soo yeah. Also the food takes ageeeeees to come out. Maybe they were short on staff but we waited at lest 15 mins for apps and then again maybe 20 for entrees. The table next to us were really mad about that.

So glad to have multiple locally backed restaurants starting to thrive in the far west end. Hutch is a great addition. We’ve had dinner and brunch here so far. Brunch deal is fantastic for families — Saturday and Sunday with one kid eating free per adult. The Chicken and the Egg is amazing. As is the Breakfast Club. Great bar and excellent menu. Dinner menu is great too. Love the eclectic mixed with traditional options. Yeah Hutch!

DH and I are big fans of Toast, so we wanted to try their newest addition, Hutch. Especially since it is about 1 mile from my house. Food-wise there are many similarities with the two menus but some cool differences too. I tend to go for the specials when I visit and continue to have great dining experiences there(with the possible exception of the pakoras) and the service continues to be very good as well. I would like to state that the roasted brussel sprouts are about the very best thing I have ever eaten in my entire life and I am I am picky vegetable eater. Keep up the good work!

I gave Toast a 5 star review, so it seems as if I should give Hutch a 5 as well… they are practically the same place. That is why I am deducting a star, because Hutch doesn’t bring a whole lot new to the table. The menu is really similar to Toast, down to where I was able to ask for the same BBQ aioli and was given it. I had a really fantastic Nashville chicken sandwich the other night. I asked for it to be grilled and the roll was even subbed out to wheat without me asking. That shows a really careful attention to detail. The parm truffle fries are always my favorite at Toast, but they seemed to be missing a little something at Hutch. The service was good, our server seemed a little shy, but was super sweet. I really hope that Hutch can differentiate itself from its big sister, because there’s not much to bring me out this far West.

I agree with other reviewers who describe greasy food. We ordered the corn dog appetizer at the request of my daughter. We were expecting mini homemade corn dogs but we got three hotdogs fried in a sweet tempura with a pool of oil at the bottom. We could only eat a few bites. They tasted okay but were just too much. Wish they had let them for a few seconds on paper towels or something. For entrees my husband got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. He liked it. Daughter got a ribeye special with mashed potatoes and veggies. She ordered medium rare and it was spot on. Great taste and nice char. I ordered the French dip. I’m a huge fan of French dips and this one was just okay. The beef was dry and overcooked, the au jus watery and the bun had too much butter. The happy hour is pretty good. I had a glass of wine for $ 4 and hubby had a Virginia beer. I’ll try Hutch a few more times. I think it’s a matter of finding the food you like on the menu, so I’ll give it another try.

Same great sweet tots as toast… thank you service is good, food is good, restaurant feels a little crowded but it’s not too bad. fried chicken is a HUGE portion. Different than any fried chicken I’ve ever had — you can really taste the pickle brine, it is very juicy, and the skin is done differently. The mac and cheese is pretty standard(tasty), and the cider braised kale is amazing.

Nice place, bad night. Everyone was friendly and attentive, but the food left a lot to be desired. We started with the Crispy Brussels Sprouts appetizer that were more chewy than crispy and, for some reason, bitter. For entrees my wife ordered the Prime Rib Poutine and I the Beer Battered Fish & Chips. Both entrees were assembled on a full plate of «fresh cut fries» that were(bad start) lukewarm and soggy.(Attention chefs of any cuisine anywhere on the planet earth: Fries have one rigorous, minimum requirement – crispy and fresh hot – no excuses.) The fried onions on the Poutine were excellent, and the melted swiss cheese, shaved prime rib, and stout gravy mixture was tasty though pretty much indiscernible from anything else with shaved beef, mashed potatoes, and gravy. The Beer Battered Fish & Chips was a story best untold. I wish I could think of a better description for the taste of the fish but«weird» keeps coming to mind. And the greasy, shiny coating semi-stuck to it was, to be kind, unappetizing. I tend to gush about places when I offer my I-couldn’t-do-half-as-good-myself opinion about a place. I know it can’t be easy to open yourself up to the eclectic tastes of the public. But in this case, in this place, on this particular evening, the chef missed it by a mile.

Hutch has a pretty straightforward(as in two-side, single-page) menu with some great combination flavors. The food came out quickly, tasted great with some fabulous flavors, and was portioned in such a way that I wasn’t staring down an unapproachable mound of food. Prices are reasonable, but you’ll pay a little more for seafood. They have food specials and happy hour specials in the dining area(not just the bar). I had the veggie burger, which was flavorful and light. The mashed potato side had big pieces of potato in it – delicious! The restaurant itself is welcoming, and I just enjoyed the atmosphere overall. Will come back again!
